Hi Guys.

Need some help..Regarding appropriate tyre for LEH ride.

Since everybody knows that soft compound tyre (stock one) is not going to last in the gravels of Leh.So can anyone please suggest the correct offroading tyre for both front and rear

So far what i had read in the forum.Junta has suggested Ceat Vertigo.

Anyone variant from Mc Sirac or IRC for the same ??

R15 owners who had done LEH,please pour in your suggestions.

Any radiator related issue ??..Like gravels and stones creating holes on it

Thanks
Biru

Biru
Some people have done Leh on completely stock R15. No issues reported.

Just to make things a little better, keep the stock front tyre and change the rear to Ceat Vertigo 100/80 x 17. This is Tubeless and the only buttoned tyre of that size in the market.

No options from Michelien. IRC also have track tyres. Design similar to what you see on the Ninja 250R. Still doesn;t serve the purpose so much. Right?

Empty the air in tyre, plug the nozzle, press the button to inflate the tyre. Run the bike for a few KMs immediately. That seals any tiny holes in the tyre. But this is not permanent. It is actually made to seal bigger an dproper puncture holes temporarily but it is able to close many tiny holes for a long time.

I wanted to know about the availability of the tyre nowadays (compared to the earlier shortage) and possibility of any alternatives.
It is never in abundant supply but seems to be available upon some search. Chennai seems to be a better place to look for R15 tyres.

Also is the Ceat Vertigo similar to the Vertigo that a lot of people use on their Pulsars ?
Yes the same. Someone's photo from xBhp

I did Leh with the R15 front tire on my RTR in tubed format. That tire can very well handle Leh. Its the R15 rear that might slip!

Was riding my R15 again after nearly a month. Just switched on, started, and she caught on at the first starter. Left her to warm up and to let the oil circulate properly. Am running fully synthetic 300v, about 200 kms old ( total ODO running of bike 9200 kms ).

The tyre pressure as usual was abysmally low, 20 Psi for the front and 18 Psi for the rear. Nursed her to the nearest pump to get the air pressure up. Got a minor spray wash and wipe to remove the dust accumulated over the month that she was parked.

On the way back from work.. what gave me the satisfaction of owning the R15, is with my bag on my back adding to the drag of the bike, i hit a very satisfactory 130 kmph, that too right before going up an incline ( flyover ). And it was fun revving the bike in each gear and enjoying the power delivery and smoothness.

Oh yeah, treated her to Speed 97, since she hit reserve, so topped up with 97, and i dunno about others, but i feel that the engine vibes go down.

There is a kit-kit sound coming from the front forks when i brake hard, or hit a pothole or something. Im guessing the steering stem nut is loose. I wanna get it opened fully, and then re-lubricate the race and cone set etc. Waiting for a day's break to get it done ( the bike is a year old, so its advisable to do it once a year ).

Just gotta sort out issues with the rear tyre losing air, maybe a replacement.

The only other gripe that i have is that this bike has to be kept in a perfect state of tune to extract the max out of it. Tappets should have the right clearance, chain should be clean and tight, tyre pressure should be correct, Fuel level/pressure should be on the higher side, and nothing should be left to rattle/shake etc. ( basically dont leave any bolt/nut on the fairing loose, or let it shake itself loose).

But i love it, and its one of my prized possessions.

Step out at night and verify whether the 250R isn't bullying the baby,
1 month, the 250R sure has some mojo

Invest in a foot-pump

It indeed is steering stem nut

i think it is the least maintained motorcycle i have owned(she hasn't demanded anything as yet)
i just treat it to a semi-synthetic every 1000kms

my handlebar jerks up and down when i cruise at low revs in high gears. what could be the problem? the svc guys changed the front fork oil and stuff but no use. you get the sensation of jerk similar to the sensation you get when riding over undulating patched roads. can i claim the warranty? could it be because of a bent alloy? the tyre pressure is remaining steady.
