You are aware that normal bike 4 stroke bike engine have valves for inlet & exhaust. These valves needs to opened and closed at correct intervals when the piston is approaching TDC (Top Dead Center) or BDC (Bottom Dead Center).
This opening/closing is achieved by a cam-shaft and rocker arm assembly. The rocker arm mates to the spring-loaded valve stem. The clearance between the rocker-arm end and the valve stem end is called "Valve Tappet Clearance". This clearance is critical for the smooth operation of the engine.
As new parts heat-up quickly they may close the clearance and lead to malfunction of the engine. So, the manufacturer purposely keeps this clearance a "bit high" for new bikes. After running-in or during the first service, the tappets are adjusted to the specified value.

Hope this helps...

Friends,

What engine oil are you using for the Menace?
Can anyone share their experience with the "Shell Advance 4T " oil?
Can I use that for my Apache 180?

Also, somebody can share their experience of using fuel additives...Bardahl, Iftex are recommended by TVS in the user manual. What u guys say about that?

I live in Bangalore, I tried for fuel additives in JC Road, people over there are not understanding what I mean !

Where can I get fuel additives in Bangalore..?

@bala_racing: Why not stick with TVS-TRU4?Change the Oil in near intervals;
What I did was changed the Engine Oil and Oil Filter at 150kms When My Bike was new. Then ,First Free Service(Obviously Oil+filter changed) when odo showed 540kms.Again Changed at 1500kms on Odo.

Regarding Oil ,Check that the Oil is JASO MA2 Compliant.I have had a bad experience with "elf moto 4 gold" oil which is not upto the standard.Another Mineral Engine Oil Suggested in This thread is "Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40".Stick to Mineral till 4000kms.

Friends,
I have taken my new pearl white angel for a ride within Bangalore city. I've clocked 100 km till now. The pick-up is nice.
I'm feeling the vibes, but not a big issue as compared to the pick-up and speed. Brakes gives me enough confidence for city ride.

My friend who sat in the pillion complained about the comfort. He says that the seat is too hard to sit for long.

During the city ride, almost every eyes turned on my angel. I'm very proud to take it for the cruise.
Really struggling hard to keep it within 50 kmph (as I'm still running-in) , the speed goes easliy to 60-70 kmph while I try to overtake some Pulsar or FZ..!!

Smile TVS "Smiles Forever" Program

@rio.acharya:Bike was indeed overheating, knocking.I flushed the oil after few 100kms and returned to TVS-TRU4 Oil.I will say ,use TRU4 till 2nd service and shift to some better Oil.This Time ,Try Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40 and Reply(it is JASO MA2 Compliant)

The Elf Moto4 Gold is a very good oil particularly for the RTR. Good quality and thick. Reduces some vibes.

Wow... probably the best shot of an RTR. It looks yummy... creamy... just want to eat it off my cup.
