2009 : The RTR 180. My very own

Its been a long journey alright... In every sense. I have always wanted to own a motorcycle of my own and today finally when that day has arrived I have no words to describe it. Yeah baby aar-tee-aar 180 whoo hooo!

So anyway, i picked up a grey RTR 180 from Meghdooth TVS (trinity circle). Wonderful people but just wish they knew a little more about their bikes. I mean 4/5 of them didnt know that the rear mudguard (the optional flap) existed and the 5th said i would have to pay for it. But still very nice people and i would recommend them to bangaloreans!

Ok back to the bike. Its been a long wait a really long one. April was when i finally saved up to buy my machine the Apache 160 FI. Pulsars never worked for me and neither did the Karizma. Then rumors of the Apache 180 and i decided to wait. When they finally launched the RTR 180 then rumors of the new pulsar. Hmmm wait some more. Then the 220 DTSi was launched. I was very confused. Last saturday i went and test rode both the 220 DTSi and the RTR 180. Decided on the 180 and booked it immmediately.

Took the delivery this evening. Finally, i have a ride of my own and boy is it sweet!

More about the bike in posts to come.
Can u plz explain what exactly made u decide ?? im in a similar confusion but here RTR 180 is not available and no test drives for P220

Hi Grafix,

1. I had visited a Khivraj motors (kasturba rd) showroom on friday evening to inquire about the 220dtsi. The guy there quoted 82K for the pulsar. Went to indira nagar branch of Kivraj motors the next day for a test drive and there the guy quoted 80K. They clearly had no proper idea of the price in bangalore. 82K felt a little too much as i had already stretched my budget for the RTR 180. A waiting period of 25-30 days didnt help either.

2. I had a very short test ride of the 220. My impressions were smooth, fast and BIG. It is a very potent machine for touring but i felt the apache would make more sense for city riding. All the while i heard people describe the rtr as agile but now that i own one i know what it means.

Most importantly i loved the rtr looks and heard lots about its performance. I felt that it was not worth spening 8-10 K more for a bike that i didnt like which performed just slightly better. I am personally of the opinion that the Pulsar 220dtsi with all its goodies (projector lamps, more power, more torque,DC electricals) is great value for money.

Just that it didnt work for me.

Hey Guys,
had been to jc road day before, bought philips crystal vision (55/60) and K&N filter for my white menace. The lamps are pretty good compared to the stock, better illumination and spread. Could not find the nightbreakers anywhere. The mechanic who fitted the filter has tuned it to higher RPM, so now im revving it a little more than what i used to, but the notes are a lot more meatier than before specially after 3K range.
Me and Kimikid have planned to go on a long ride to Masinagudi next weekend!!!(Yipeee) So wanted to ask you guys as to the precautions to be taken on a long ride.(Have got spare clutch cable, spark plug and tubeless puncture kit)

So 180 comes with DC or AC lighting, i think its AC, as if you install 55/60 insteed 35/35 then there is no problem apart from deam light at low rpm and a stress in the magneto, but if the whole setup is DC it may drain the battery in long run.

IMO 180 still uses the same electricals like 160, so using 55/60 will not provide any better light at low rev range, BTW did you face light flickring in high speed when horn is pressed.
