All the good stuff is there. Its not as hard to ride slow as I thought initially. The tyres are sooopper sticky. I leaned a bit into a corner, the bike goaded me to do more. I did a bit more, and the bike said - bas itna hi :P
    The bad stuff:
Extremely clunky gear shift. Finding neutral is an art. Hopefully it will get better with time.
A few weird noises here and there.
Delivery Experience: All ok except that I was forced to tag along with a dumb group of poser superbikers to the orange day event. The kinds who unnecessarily vroom around to get attention and pop wheelies. Sad really. Left a bitter taste in the mouth.
Anyways, time for another short ride
    Congrats on the 390!
Trust me, after 800kms on it till now. I never found it problematic to ride in city and heavy traffic.

Gear shift is bit clunky, but in first 3 gears only. You will find neutral easily as you put on some KMs. The wierd noise I hear is coming from rear side of the bike especially during the bumps. Could not figure it out till now. Sounds appears like a plastic gift wrapper being crushed.

24K for metzeller tyres every 8K km average --> 3Rs per KM.
    Servicing around 2500 every 6K. + lubing every 500 km and misc. --> 1 Rs. a km

so approx is around 8Rs. a KM.

The way this bike crunches miles,
a weekend pune-kolhapur run 500 km round trip would cost me 4K bucks.
and a long ride like pune-delhi run 3500Km round trip would be 28K INR.

    wooooooooshhhh...

How did you achieve the figure of Rs 4/- for fuel?
Mine gives 27-29 in city and gave 33 kmpl on state highway. Considering average petrol price to be Rs 81/L, in city it is Rs 2.8/km an highways its 2.4/km. And after Run-in I expect it be better.

And 8000 kms for tires on 390 is quite low. This figure is for Super bikes. I expect them to give off by 12K - 13K kms. At max it would be Rs 2/km.

Servicing part, considering Duke 200's service cost and requirement of more engine oil, it might fall under Rs 2000/-. And Tribocor chain spray and lube will come for Rs 610 which will survive for 4 - 5 sprays.

I thought Metzelers costs 12k a pair instead of 24, since Bajaj buys in bulk. Can anyone confirm this?

I am a bit throttle happy. got 24-25 on 300 KM highway.. and I am taking it easy currently

My duke 200 gave way in 9500KM on MRF tyre. Metzeller is softer and 390 rev. harder.. hence 8K..

MG is not exactly throttle unhappy and his rear tyres lasted 10k atleast. This included taking it offroading, trail riding along with going up and down the highways. If the rear can take such abuse for 10k km, then for a normal cycle rider, they should be good for atleast 11/12k km. His front tyres are still going strong. 13k done and seem to be good for a couple more thousand kilometers as per his last post.

                hmmm.. point taken..
OR maybe i ride bad.. don't take good care of tyres or something
Anyways, those are just estimated calculations on basis of my first 600km.

would be in better position after 10K..

In my entire test duration I achieved a figure of ~Rs 4/- per km. I guess for production bike(since my bike was ridden to max from very first km) and the fluctuating petrol rates it will come at Rs 3 or little more than that

Tyres will be Rs 2/- per km. Rear tyre gave away at 10k so normal running I'm expectimg another 1-2k life. Front I guess if taken proper care can go upto 17-18k.

Btw the MRF Revz doesn't go well not only in terms of grip level but also because of the extra power the tyre life will be lesser as compared to D200. In 3000kms 40% of the tyre life is gone

As I posted on the other thread cost per km including everything(petrol, spares, service, tyres) will come at ~Rs 7/- per km

The mail I sent to Bajaj after being harassed by the dealer on Tuesday:

                          Respected Sir,

Kindly note your South Mumbai KTM showroom has a bunch of MORONS (trying to) running a show (but badly failing everytime).
I waited 5 months for the bike. Everyone did. I paid 40,000/- in advance. I never created a fuss or said a word. The dealer never called or sent a mail notifying me anything.

Finally, bike came in showroom (warehouse) more than 20 days ago. I called as i came to know about it. The dealer never called. He said I should come and make the balance payment. Which i did, the same day.

The dealer said 5 days and you'll get the bike. The agents have been delaying my paperwork since more than 2 weeks now. Remaining bikes from my lot were bought to the showroom in a truck for delivery, mine still staying back in the warehouse. I was given the option of taking it myself from the warehouse,a good 60kms from the city as the dealer said he couldn't afford to hire a truck for just 1 bike. (Quite funny considering its the premium bike of KTM, Europe's largest manufacturer...).

I said, i'll go and get it rather than have a guy ruin the engine of India's premier sportsbike during run-in. They agreed HAPPILY. After delaying with their agent inspite of me following up and asking them to comply with their own agent, their paperwork wasn't done on time.

I still kept calm. They said anyhow all will be done by Tuesday and Tuesday eve the number would arrive, wednesday morning being a holiday I could finally go collect the bike from the warehouse on 2nd October.
I called the agent and followed up all day. He said please ask Sai Service to send their demand draft for the RTO so he could continue with the formalities. I've been going out of my way to ensure after failing periodically on the last 2 time linesOF LAST WEEK, THEN MONDAY, THEN TUESDAY, he complies AT LEAST THIS TIME.

The dealer called saying the number will arrive, I should come to the showroom to collect papers and go for delivery tomorrow. Also, I must get my brother to sign the delivery note as the bike is on his name. HE stays in a nearby city, travelled 65kms to make it.

I called the dealer before leaving to still confirm. HE said you come, the no is on the way. After cancelling all my meetings for the evening abruptly, calling my brother in an hrs notice from another city, the dealer says, after me spending 7pm to 8.30pm in the dealership, that the number hasn't come. I can't take my bike.

ZERO COORDINATION AMONG THE WORKERS AND DEPARTMENTS. WASTE OF MY TIME AND MONEY. 2 HRS WASTED AT THE DEALERSHIP. DEALER SAYS COLLECT THE BIKE ON FRIDAY.

                          AM I A FOOL?
IS MY TIME OF NO VALUE?
CONFIRMING AND CALLING ABRUPTLY, THENJ DENYING THE DELIVERY DUE TO GOOF UPS AS USUAL. HOW MANY TIMES ARE YOUR EMPLOYEES ALLOWED TO APOLOGIZE????

ITS A 2 DAY JOB TO REGISTER AND MORE THAN 15 DAYS HAVE PASSED

AFTER SPEAKING TO YOUR AGENT AT 8.30 PM TODAY, THEY CONFESSED THEY TOOK OUT THE DD VERY LATE AND COULDN'T SUBMIT IT TO THE RTO ON TIME(OTHER DEPARTMENTS WERN'T EVEN NOTIFIED) HENCE I WAS MADE TO WASTE MY TIME AND GO ALL THE WAY TO VASAI A GOOD 60KMS AWAY ON A WORKING DAY TO TAKE DELIVERY.

I'M THE ADMIN OF KTM 390 DUKE MUMBAI OWNER'S CLUB (THE DUKES OF MUMBAI)

I APPRECIATE THIS ATTITUDE OF EMPLOYEES, RETURNED THEM ALL MY RECEIPTS. I DO NOT WANT YOUR BIKE. OUTSIDE SUB-DEALERS ARE SOURCING BIKES FROM THE SAME SHOWROOM AND SELLING AT A PREMIUM AND GENUINE CUSTOMERS BEING TAKEN FOR A RIDE.

ALL RECEIPTS ARE WITH YOUR DEALER. I'M AGITATED, PISSED, PATIENCE HAS BEEN TAKEN FOR A RIDE.

THEY CAN KEEP THE BIKE AND TAKE OTHER PPL FOR A RIDE.

I WAS FINALLY PROMISED DELIVERY ON WEDNESDAY, I WANT THE BIKE DELIVERED (NOT RIDDEN) TO MY ADDRESS BY TOMORROW EVE, ELSE ASK YOUR DELAER TO REVERT WITH THE FULL REFUND + COMPENSATION FOR MENTAL HARASSMENT, NEGLIGENCE, DEFICIENCY OF SERVICE.

I understand your frustration and their lack of co-ordination but I feel your letter comes out as a rant rather than a well formed complaint to the KTM. Instead of detailing all the issues with the dealer including the RTO problem which they have no control/responsibility over, you should have kept it little professional and given the circumstances of your delay and the dealerships lackadaisical attitude to your booking.
I know one would be pissed off with these kinds of hopeless people but that should not literally translate into a formal communication when going higher. Give them a chance to help you, an ultimatum will not help much.

Hope your issue is resolved soon and you enjoy your bike.
