I had test ridden the FZ for a decent while, and I personally found it nowhere close to the RTR... I mean I loved the big bike feel and the initial whizz till 85KMPH... but after that I found it pretty ok ok stuff.... The RTR is crazy till 100 even when on 4th gear!

BTW I have booked an FZ for my bro in law... waiting for its delivery... Yamaha have messed up the delivery big time

You'll feel that the FZ is slow.... even I thought so at first.... but when you drag... the FZ actually pulls faster....
If you check... the FZ is a whole lot smoother... and feels like its not pulling or speeding... unlike the RTR (or even the pulsars for that sake) which screams all the way past the redline... and feels very very fast.

Btw.... these are some of the figures given by various auto tests....

      FZ16 test in Zigwheels.com

      and

RTR test in Bike India Aug '07 issue

The figures seem pretty much comparable .

      • @chetan: even i felt the FZ would be fast.. but after watching Sumit draggin with Shiva on my 200, it changed my mind.. it started off good.. till i could see.. he was just on Shiva's tail.. but pressuming after 80 - 90kmph.. he(Sumit on FZ) would have lost it by big margin.

But that's comparing it to the 200 right? It sure is doing well for a 150 then right? How about comparisons with its actual competitors and not bikes with more cc and power then...

Satyen, well i would like to comment here that the new FZ would take some time to open up good and then may be we can have a more clear comparison between FZ and the RTR...

Coz, as per the current results i.e FZ vs. P200 ... the FZ was just at the tail of the P200 so, if it opens up more nicely(after the running in is completed and 2nd service is done) then it cud/might get more closer to the 200...!!

            • FZ16 is an awesome bike. RTR is also good but you can't compare RTR with FZ16 in terms of look.
And performance is also awesome with unishocker and much wider tyre.
As per drag, I agree its depend both on rider and bike.
I have won 4 drags continously with FZ16 beating RTR.
Well nothing personal but in my view FZ16 is far more better than RTR.

              • @Mzone: No dude.. m not comparing it with the 200.. it's just i was talking bout how quickly it picked up the speed, but i pressume it wasn't consistent after say 90kmph. Understand the post 1st.

@hellrider: what made u think that i came to the conclusion.. if u know how to read.. then please read that i've written PRESSUMING, if u understand what i mean by that.

Plz stop speculating without even understanding the post.

                    • My first impressions

Yamaha was giving out TD for both R15 and FZ16 near my office.Took a 7-8 km TD in city and open roads.

Following are my impressions about FZ16 :

Looks - excellent looking bike , muscular and one of its kind in the sub-continent.

Pick up - very good for a 150cc , great power in first three gears with good roll on speeds and good low end torque.

Stability - very stable while taking turns &over pot holes at speeds in excess of 80.Sticks to the road very well.

Comfort - Very comfy as compared to a 220/RTR/200.Pillion seat is also comfortable.

Handling - handles pretty well , the position of the handle bars really make you feel like riding a big bike. You always feel you are in total control of the bike.

Engine - feels very refined , gear shifting is smooth , finding neutral is as easy as finding stray dogs on the roads. Lacks punch in 4th and 5th gears (as compared to first three).

Brakes - Front discs are good , rear drums can be used in emergency situations.I was missing the feel of rear discs.

Colour changes - If you buy tank panels and front mud guard of a different colour for 2499/- you can change your bikes colour at home

Couldn't check the head lights , but I am assuming it will be at par with others in the market.

I feel this is an excellent city bike.Worth a buy for 73000 on road pune.

                      • i finally got a long awaited test ride today. the bike seems really planted. A few people i know who've ridden it said that it seems like a very sloppy bike. However i guess the pick up is like a time warp. it makes u feel sloppy or should i say calm and steady but it seems to catch up speeds pretty fast. i dint get to push the bike to its limits but i took it till about 50 kph and it handles like a dream.

I own a pulsar 150 classic. The ride quality in terms comfort felt somewhat better than my bike. i guess only hovercrafts can provide comfort against Mumbai potholes. However the handling is miles apart. The bike feels really easy to maneuver without compromising with road grip. The overall riding experience is awesome.

I had a 'watchman' ...the security guy of the shop accompany me as pillion so i cant really vouch for the pillion comfort. However more than comfort he was happier accepting his bravery for sitting behind a 'fast' machine.

My take would be...it may be good for a sprint but if you have a girlfriend and your next outing is a movie or dinner, I'd recommend this piece of machinery to seal the deal.

Now one thing i dint like is the digital speedo. too cramped to read anything.

The rear of the FZ is branded : MRF Revz.
Not sure if they're available. The front is a MRF Zapper...
