    1) Caught on my dad's old scooter in 2001 in Bhopal. Was talking on the side of the busy road with my friend on Sunny. Cop caught us both and asked for papers and license. My papers were gone for NOC and my friend had lost his papers. My license was for no geared scooter and he was not having that also. Checked my pocket had 5 bucks while my friend had 6 bucks. Had to persuade a lot with the police man. Deal stuck at 200 for both vehicles. Cop allowed me to go and fetch money but asked my friend to wait. When i came back my friend waved me to run as cop was busy with car. He also started his vehicle and ran away. So after an hour of time passing with cop we were free without any payment

    2) Was caught in Mysore riding wrong side on one way. Din't saw any sign board but cop said there were a dozen sign boards. He made a challan of 100 bucks for riding wrong side. What amazed me was that he never asked for NOC as i was driving MP registered vehicle

    3) Was caught in Pune for riding MP registered vehicle. Apart from NOC I had all the papers. Had to pay 300 bucks. He saw my Id and knew I was an IT guy so had to pay the premium.

Apart from this stopped many times for routine checkup. Din't had to pay anything

From what I have seen till now hope I don't have to worry about NOC issue in Delhi for driving a MH (Maharashta) registered vehicle.

@naman: I had been riding a Meghalaya registered Pulsar 180 classic for 3 years, without ever having to pay any kind of challan or anything.

I have observed that cops catch you in Maharashtra if you are riding with an outside number. I am not sure if its' a necessity or what but they ask to change the number to Maharashtra. I had to get the number changed to MH and even my friends had a similar experience. I think they have some rule at RTO to get a state number. I have had a couple of similar experiences in Karnataka. Delhi seems to be lenient in this regard.

The cop who stopped me for speeding was shell shocked seeing the reading on the speed gun, and wanted to fine me more than Rs.300 which is the fine for over speeding. But he fined me just that, after asking the usual SBK newbie questions

The cop who fined me for the front number plate thing was a bit over friendly. Sat on the bike and tugged at the levers etc. Got royally angry when I told him to get off the bike.

challan issued two times and one court notice

              1. riding doubles took a u turn which had no "no u turn board", cop came out of no where and stopped us. for my bad luck i was not having a DL as well was still in learners license. cursed myself for taking that turn which was not required.
cop did not bother to check the license and other documents, asked 10 rupees and left us.
that was lucky considering the fine for no license.

              2. learners license had to be renewed, gave for renewal and since had not seen any cop on the way thought of taking the kinetic back home with me. just entered the main road near my house and was stopped by a traffic constable. had to pay him 40 rupees that was there with me and push the vehicle back home for few meters since he was also moving towards the junction

I remember these words vividly, too! And no wonder the cop was absolutely shocked..

In Maharashtra its a pain to drive a two wheeler which is having outside MH number but for four wheelers its kinda okay. There is a RTO rule that if your stay in a State is less than 3 months than you can drive freely in that state. If its less than one year than you have to pay the road tax for a year of that state but its not necessary to change the number. For a stay beyond that you have to pay the tax along with the number change. This rule exists in every state from what i know.

In Delhi things are different because people move in and out of the state pretty frequently. Therefore the question of state registration doen't come into play. For example you can always say that i live in Noida if you are caught in Delhi and are there for a visit But in Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore etc you don't have this kind of luxury

Bribe ke mamle mein...i think i have been ripped off too many times!

                          1. Caught for fitting 'Batman' shaped number plates in aurangabad Cop took my license and gave a receipt. Got it back for no cost thanks to my dad who is in IT After that incident i fixed a cheap number plate that cost my around Rs 30! The paint started peeling off after a few weeks but was never caught for that again

                          2. Fined for taking a one way turn(?) Again my license was taken. Paid a fine of Rs 100 and got it back.

                          3. Bike was towed away. Took a lot of time to find out where it had been towed. Had to cough up Rs 200 because PUC was not valid along with towing charges.

                          4. Caught for driving without completing the registration formalities. The idiot peeked into my wallet and saw a bunch of notes and immediately demanded Rs 300! I had no choice because there were a bunch of traffic policemen standing close by

Thankfully iv never been caught for driving without a helmet or DL.

People in b'lore jump traffic lights right under the traffic polices' noses! i mean literally Even as the mamu is standing right in the centre of the junction

Never fined prior to Sept 07

Took OR registered Honda Dio to Chennai as I was transferred there. Was riding through a market place with a large number of people on the road. Suddenly a cop comes along side on his bike and asks me to pull over. He wanted to see my papers which I had, and promptly showed it to him. Then he was asking for road tax receipt, and that was something new, had never heard of it. So naturally I argued with him, somewhere along the course of the conversation I said I have come only recently to Chennai and don't need to pay road tax, he said I was lying and he has seen me since a long time :O. I promptly showed him the date on NOC which was less than a month old, he quietly started his bike and left. Right after this I'm fuming with anger and riding back home, a momentary lapse of concentration and jumped a signal. Well I did not intend to as the light was still yellow and traffic was moving, but there was a over enthusiastic cop whose signal was about to turn green and started to move ahead in anticipation of that.

He was right in my and I saw him in the nick of time and missed him by a few inches, but not without scaring the living daylights out of him. Naturally he hunted me down and fined me for rash driving! 100 bux gone there....

I had just got the registration number for my brand new 220 and was told that GP road is place to get number plate stickered, in the quest for searching for the number plate wala place I got stopped for running without a number. He asked me how many kms done? Like I fool I thumped my chest and said 175 kms (excitement of getting a new bike and riding that much in 1 week), he announced that the limit is 100kms before which one must get the number put on the plate....well another argument here, and bargaining followed. I handed over the cop 100 rupee note and he gave back 50 bucks change. :P

Next I was running late for office and was doing speeds in excess of 100 within city limits, there was barricade in the middle of the road. Naturally I slowed down for the barricade and as soon as I had navigated throught it I was accelerating hard only find a cop standing running towards the middle of the road......he had 82 on the speedgun. But after a little haggling and apologies I was let off with a 100 rupee fine....

Next time will post up my funny incidents with getting challaned after I move to Bangalore!

My God! These cops are more like baniyas I tell you! I mean, giving Rs.50/- change back.. I just cannot stop laughing. This thread is fast becoming a joke thread!

Isn't the whole traffic management and traffic cops system a joke in it self?
