The cops took my bike (from no parking zone), i was clueless first then i arranged the phone number of the traffic police station. I asked whether my bike was there or not?
Then i went to the police station, the cop said arey Chawlaji aap ki gaadi hai kya. They gave it to me.

1 time when driving car in ernakulam city -rs50/-
1 time with bike.was pakka boozed and was on my pulsar -Rs100/-

In kerala ,if you got helmet and DOES NOT put it ,you will be fined Rs200 ;else for without helmet case ,it is Rs100/-!

            Seatbelt Rs500!
I think Helmet and seatbelt are compulsary in most states of India.but in coimbatore city ,I saw 9 out of 10 dont wear helmets.
But in Kochi(n) city ,without helmet means you are fined.so it is like 8 out of 10 got helmets and wear seat belts.though the same cannot be said about every part of Kerala.
I dont carry original papers.mostly get attested and keep in the bike/car.
My License book is of year 1998 ,I think.it is a old book with photo pasted and with worst quality paper.so ,I got a Photostat(yea ,we call xerox that way only!) of the License book and attested ,laminated.

              Nope.Never!

I have been ridng two wheelers for the past..8 years and not once have I been caught be by any cop *Touch WOod*

SOme of the things I follow (If u may follow them I feel they can help u avoid all those irritataing bribes and fines)

              1. Always, Always Wear a Helmet- it generally gives cops the impression that u follow the rules. And I dont even have start to explain how useful it is for us bikers.

              2. GO with the crowd.....Identify the signals that cops frequent and curb your 'racer instinct' -Dragging at signals is a sure-shot way to get caught...dont stand in the first row..U may get fined for evn standing ON the line or moving a few seconds before green..One can always overtake the guys in front.

              3. The most important thing I follow is -If u see cops stopping guys from a distance..Never, I repeat, Never keep left..Go to the right extreme, if possibel be and avoid eye contact Act as if u were too busy concentrating on the road to see them wave u down -
The police Mamas wont risk walking across the road to reach the extreme right - but some I have seen do that too(do they think they're a brick wall or what?)-desperate to get that month's quota-Just your bad luck then..

              4. Keep all your papers in order -That will make a difference between you paying a unfair fine/bribe and you walking away smiling with your money in YOUR pocket

Dude dont get me wrong, but the fact that riding without a licence (or insurance for that matter) really does not warrant a "" tag - Pls understand there are horrible legal hassles(God forbid ,u get involved in an acident), plus the frustration of having to shell out money everytime u r waved down.
Its akin to ridin drunk-No matter what the other guy's fault maybe-It is you who will get punished-No licence? your fault! No insurance? YOU pay for everyting! Alcohol in blood and someone else crashes into u?-YOU go to jail..

Ok, you follow point 3 to avoid the cops..But I would really be happy if u followed 1,4 with dilegence..Get a licence and ride with peace of mind -Its not difficult

Not trying to be a bore or trying to single you out and find faults.Jus tellin you what i feel...after all I beleieve we xBhpians should set good examples on the roads and off it.I am sure the Mods would agree on this and insist on it too...

                      peace and happy riding

Now this should be interesting. I'll use it as a confession as well:

                          1) Caught for not carrying a licence while riding my old 1994 KiHo. Challaned as well.
                          2) Challaned for the licence plate (Pulsar) not displaying the number properly (it was covered in muck after a 1600 km ride).
                          3) Challaned for over speeding. Was doing about 80 kmph. Got me on the radar gone, complete with a printout. Damage was much more because I missed a flight because of the 20 minutes spent with the cops.
                          4) Challaned again for over speeding. Was doing triple digit speeds and was stopped by the cop who jumped out directly into my path. Would have killed both of us if it wasn't the magical six-piston calipers and the super sticky Pilot Powers.
EDIT:5) Challaned for not having a front number plate. This half an hour after I changed the windscreen which had the stickered number.

Been stopped a few times and just been let off with papers intact.

Cops still stop you with your liter class moped.... duh I thought cops avoid picking these 'son-of-a-gun' typos... I am being a stereotype here!

arey Akhil i know what exactly you mean

i've seen the despo cops jump in one's path to block them
actually they start playing a goalkeeper of a football team

which is again stupid as they can seriously get injured for nothing, esp if some other vehicle comes and hits them, and with their construction hat type helmets , i doubt even the head is secure.

                              BTW
i've seen the "Menu" of Challan rates several places in bangy.
of course this Item in the menu is the star
Overtaking from the left also attracts fine of 200rs

                              P.s
come to tumkur man , they wont ever challan you since you know kannada. No helmet rule or anything, just you need to have the proper papers that's it.
A man's testosterone level is directly proportional to bhp that he's using on his motorcycle.

@rossiter: And do they react any 'differently' while enquiring about the papers, et al and seeing 'the One'? I just wonder..
