I don't exactly remember but it was around 65-70 kmph. Hit the brakes hard, slowed significantly but still hit that guy due to skidding(rainy season).

I still see people jump across the dividers onto the highway (old pune mumbai highway) everyday:banghead:

The worst part is, just today I noticed a foot over bridge at the very spot where these guys came on the highway(accident spot) . This is just ridiculous. These senseless people don't realise how bad things can go within a fraction of seconds. And their attitude just makes me go crazy. I noticed this one guy walking on the right lane as if it were a footpath.:banghead:

THE MOST annoying thing here in Bangalore is JAY WALKERS. Ones who believe they are prodigies when it comes to crossing road amidst busy traffic. I have had harrowing encounters and still do . The worst part is when you overtake and see these idiots posing for you. The moment they see you in speed, they'll start I don't know what to call "Traffic Jives"???... Gets you real confused as the bugger would cross or stay or they might just run into you. The latest trend now is crossing the road and showing US (THE MOTORISTS) stop sign!!!!. How lame and ridiculous is that??!!!. All these are great recipes for disaster

Re: The streets are filled with idiots

              Hi all,

I met an unfortunate accident on 11th Jan 2014 (Sunday) evening (near 5:30PM).
A silver swift jumped into my lane while I was passing through a crossing (non regulated/only with yellow-red warning lights) in Dwarka.
I was beside (diagonally rear) a DTC bus (in the middle of right lane) and was riding relative (~40/45Ks a bit quicker than bus), suddenly a swift came from left passage , jumped the bus (the bus slowed because of that) and stopped in front of me (to negotiate the traffic from other incoming lane) .The bus created a blind spot for both the car and me. I didn’t get enough distance for safely stopping, I could see the driver's face in front of me(from side window), I did a panic braking and the rear wheel got locked and I skidded and bumped into driver's side quarter panel of the car. As a result I flew good 5-6 feet away from the swift and landed on other side.
Thanks to almighty ( I didnt land in front of any moving vehicle) as soon as I was in air I stretched and rolled (naturally) and landed on my right shoulder supported with my left hand. That saved me from any fatal injury. I was wearing decent riding gloves (leather with some armor on top), Vega boolean helmet, tough woodland shoes, denim pants and a thick winter jacket (not meant for riding though), that further helped me. (I didn’t receive any single scratch, fingers crossed), still I was severely injured. No fracture but tissues in right shoulder, arms, hip joint got torn and there was noticeable swelling in fingers in left palm.
At that time I dint feel any pain, and was involved in a good near 15-20 minutes discussion. No one cared to ask about my well being, probably because of the way I reacted, I was calm & cool got up myself, moved my bike to a side, came back and joked 'is there anyone else injured other than me'. (Probably that was not the best thing to do then, they took me really easy because of that) The behavior of the driver (an educated college guy, from a good family) and his family (~4) was very irresponsible, even when it wasnt my fault and I didnt claim anything from them . I was outnumbered and it was sort of abandoned place. so I couldnt do much alone. They didnt even offer to take me to any nearby clinic. rather one aunty (passenger) instructed to settle things quickly as she saw some PCR van passing by. (By that time I was not in a state to make any decision, was rather shocked) The guy was really insensitive towards me and more concerned about small dent to his car's panel. Rather he expected me to pay for it (WTH). As per his uncle's( rear seat passenger) theory he could see me from far, that means I also saw the car, so I should have stopped. I explained to him that I didnt see any car as my view was restricted because of the bus, and they should have let the bus go(coming from their right), instead of making haste. (No one listened to me). I got mentally tired in the end, we exchanged numbers and they left.

It was much worse for me, my bike's front forks got twisted, mudguard plucked away. I couldnt ride my bike (I dont know how to pull a wheelie ) after everyone left me at crash site. I tried to push it to my place, but then suddenly i realized I was in trouble, I started feeling pain. I called that guy again (as he was nearest person to the crash site & responsible too) with intentions of asking him to drop me to nearest clinic. But he dint pick my phone. He did reply after half an hour and apologized, but by then I was on my way to clinic by my own (actually about to reach). (I left my bike a couple of KMs away from the crash site and got lift from a passerby). The apology was of no practical use.
This was not the end of my ordeal, since it was Sunday evening, there were no doctors/orthopedics available (only their assistants), after knocking at couple of clinics I found a physician, he did a check up , gave me some pain killers and referred for x-rays (to the only lab opened at that time) for my shoulder and right limb joint. I only got free by 7:45 PM. It was a nasty experience. (Said too mildly, when I look back I shiver, It was a death trap)

              Few take aways:
1- Take your time, relax (don’t bother about your vehicle) and get up only when you feel everything is ok. Rather move to a safe place and rest your body there.
2- Ask for first aid if there are visible wounds.
3- Be vocal about your problems to people. Tell them you are hurt/feel something is wrong. Insist to take you to nearest clinic/hospital.
4- Call your near ones (buddies/parents) immediately from the crash site. If you can hold on your own comfortably, don’t leave crash site till they arrive.
5- If possible take pics of the vehicles involved and the crash site. (With vehicles registration plates)
6- Arguments and discussion should be last things to do(especially if you are outnumbered, dont waste your energy).
7- In case out numbered say yes (or don’t deny directly) to pay for damage at that time, even if it’s not your fault (just to avoid any violence towards you at that time).
0-Always wear at least a good helmet, shoes and gloves while riding (now i believe its better to put as much armor as possible )

PS: I was instructed complete bed rest for minimum a week and I am hating this sling around my neck

              --
              Regards,

Thing is I cant (rather I dont want to) call that guy wrong. I feel it was just the situation. moreover I only feel bad about the way I was treated and followup. (one can be concerned about one's damage but human life should not come second.) My family isn't concerned about money. I did call that guy again, not with the intention of any damage claim but to let him know what I went through. He is a college guy(who doesn't earn), his first question was 'Its my dad's car what should I reply to him', I said don't worry I will help?(His elder family members kept away from any kind of rational conversation) It all happened when I didn't feel any pain (was rather feeling like a superhuman than being just lucky, my bad ). Also the guy was polite with me, we didn't exchange any bad words.
Update: I am able to live normal (with some pain depending on the movement of my affected limbs), waking up in morning is sometimes like climbing Everest, but every thing comes to normal once I warm up and take medicines. Also, have stopped using sling(not recommended though, but I feel over dressed) and have joined my office today(watching TV whole day cant help me).

Read this quote somewhere "India is only country, where you look at both sides of road before crossing one way road".

People here drive, ride and walk like crazy. They always think that their father owns the road. Without looking crossing the road, taking turns without giving indicator. Most of all at traffic signal if they have to turn right, they would be found on the left lane and vice versa.

Honking is one of the prime thing they have to do. Even on an empty stretch of road they will honk. Found few drives/ riders honking after certain interval. In case if they are behind me, I let them pass and then I start my torture, I start following them and keep on honking even of they give me way. Leave them behind after certain time.

There are lot of traffic issues that we face everyday. I feel Depending on our mood we tackle them. If clam we don't let them affect our mood. But in case we have a hot head, on which we can fry anything, we also start reacting like them in a stupid manner. Let's hope that people in India will at some point of time Will start following the traffic rule.

Some xBhpian just hit me on the right shoulder today, the girls were trying to run away from the cops manning the checkpoint there I think. I stopped even though they do not stop us bicyclists, and all of a sudden 2 girls coming on a Mahindra Duro hit me on the right shoulder, as I looked at them to note down the license plate, I was shocked to see a xBhp sticker on the license plate, which is illegal. BTW I did not fall, not hurt that bad either, well, the doctor I was consulting for my knees and back turned out to be a fake one and yesterday police arrested him, so did not bother going to the local hospital.
Whoever you are ladies, you owe an apology. Don't worry, I am not going to kill you.

There is this guy coming to my office complex (different building) on a KTM 200. He rides semi geared up.

He is usually at 60 km/hr speed. The moment I cross him on my little Fazer.. he starts a race on the road. It was the second time today.. he was going smoothly when I overtook him. I was expecting this to happen, hence I maintained a gap between my bike and his while overtaking him.. so that I dont offend him, but still it started.

Frankly speaking, I never intended to race. I was late from office and was trying to quickly pick my son from daycare which was about to close. If you delete this rider from the scene, my speeds would have hardly changed!

After I overtook him, I sensed that he is picking up speed. I came to the complete left of the road so that he may pass, I was around 70km/hr.. There was merging traffic ahead hence I came back to the correct lane.. this time riding fast between traffic and there comes two corners (which I love) I realized that he has come too close now.. but I enjoy these corners and he seemed to slow down. I was at 80 he was around 75 I guess. He reduced his speed to below 60 at those corners but the moment the turn got over he raced furiously to get passed me. I was always expecting him anytime (14bhp vs 25 bhp). And was riding on the middle of the road giving him ample space from both sides.

I realized that today I had taught him how to negotiate corners at high speed. Thereafter I was tailing his rear lamps throughout, it is sometime more about the rider than the machine I think.

If that guy is reading this - Ride to enjoy. As I have crossed you on two different occasions on relatively clear roads.. it means my average speeds are more than yours. There is no reason to start a race if somebody crosses you. Today its a Fazer tomorrow it can be a 390. You should keep riding at your speeds with complete disregard to who overtakes you, whether its a splendor or a bomb. Dont link your ego with your bike's cc.

I encounter some guys occasionally who would start riding like crazy the moment I cross them. These would be on bikes like unicorn, pulsars, splendors(yes, splendors! dont underestimate this pocket rocket, I have owned one). Most of them will not even have a helmet on their head. I dont honk at anyone to avoid offending them. Imagine an xyz bike rinding in the fast lane at 35km/hr., but what can one do when some gets offended just by your speeds!

The problem is not with the speed.. but with your mind. You should enjoy the rush even when there is no 150cc bike around. Dont ride to win but to enjoy. If you enjoy doing 0-100 in less than 10 sec. do it daily with complete disregard to who else is on the road.

I like to contribute a little positive - The streets are changing from idiots to little sensible...

Last weekend on our return to Chennai from a trip to Western Ghats, we were returning from Ulundurpet at a very quick pace. We were overtaking the rolling wave traffic & we sometimes had to slow down as there would be a car that is in the process of overtaking trucks & during this process there will be another car in queue to overtake. We respected that & keep signalling (if it isn't our turn) the other car to overtake. Quite surprise that during the next traffic choke, the same cars would let us pass by allowing us to get in front of them. Not just one car or just one tempo traveler, but I can recall atleast 3-4 cars & a temp traveler.

Then, these jokers who keep honking for nothing, I developed the habit of pulling all the way to left & signalling them to overtake. I developed that attitude out of pure frustration & now it has become a habit, but without getting worked out. Right from last weekend trip till date, I would simply let the honking vehicle behind me to overtake & to my surprise they will never honk behind me (and 99% of the time, they will get struck in few seconds & eventually will trail me again) & they not only stop honking but also seem to drive quite good mannered (may be I'm assuming too much), but this is my observation.

After all, there're some sensible people among the idiots, who may be willing to change & if I'm the reason they're changing, it gives me an immense pleasure
