I believe you. Why does this always happen to you mate? Looks like you are destined for such incidents.
Nevertheless, I hope you have not stopped yourself from helping others.

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.

Something like my situation, mate! This has always been worst of my fears - I take a long time to come to terms with the other person, be it a gunda, rowdy etc. (ego comes into play) Defeat and pleading is just not my game but we have to realize that it's not a movie scene (especially south ones; no offence please) wherein you can beat the crap outta 50 rowdies just like that, I wish I could. Situations can turn pretty awful if decisions aren't taken wisely - While I am giving advises, I myself was about to pick a fight the other day (ref. my earlier post). But thanks to my xBhp comrades, the day and my mood turned good later - feels good to be around like-minded folks and those who understand. My next encounter (SATAN forbid) will be handled tactfully and fighting will be the last option (though I do not mind this )

Sigh,,, we'll never have peace of mind on Indian roads!!

I was trying to be a little humorous . These things happened so quick. The only mistake I did was try to go to college during the time palkhis were passing the city.

Surviving itself on the Indian roads is a great achievement. Every situation is testing Your riding skills to the extreme. One needs to ride with an attitude that someone is trying to knock them down, thats the only way You can stay alert and watch out for potential hazards. Every one has a speed limit that they are comfortable with, exceeding that would be risking Yourselves and others.

PS: One can try playing bike games which would help to train the brain to avoid hazards and other road users who are intentionally trying to know You down.
            Sound weird but works.

Re: The streets are filled with idiots

              hey guys....

              great thread.

i met this idiot last night in delhi.
i was returning after classes, its rush hour around 9o pm i wasnt speeding much....about 30 kph and accelerating (signal just went green). saw this suv in front which just started moving so i thought of overtaking from left ( enuf room for my pulsar 135). and no points for guessing and to my horror suddenly the 'left front door of the suv which was in the middle of the road opened wide" and after the initial shock that im gonna crash into it ( no breaking distance) if u can believe my panic level skipped a grade higher. THE Hand retracted the door just enough to CUT Me In Half. ( before i happily concluded that i wld recieve no\minimal damage as the door would cushion + my braking but now its a whole new equation !!
i swerved left and screamed "SURPRIZE" in ears of another rider and gracefully kissed the road.
i recieved some scratches but my baby pulsar was diagnosed with a fractured "clutch holder" ?? and broken left RVM .
(she's recovering at the nearby SVC as im trying to find solace here )
after picking her up i noticed that THE Hand belonged to a Woman........ and if for those who are wondering she was a hard 5. the suv zipped thru with the moving traffic and i was left with a broken clutch and the Surprized RiderBhai who after seeing the damages managed a " ho gaya kaam iska to..!! " ( your bike's done for ! )
u have no idea how much i wanted to scribble "C - ki - Patthi" on that bimbos forehead.

on my behalf i would say i was only wearing a full face helmet and regular denims and woodland shoes. + ( i can hear the criticism already) earphones to my i pod inside the helmet.
+ i am not very good at panic breaking i have always feared the front discs and the vision of a locked front tyre doesnt help either.
feel free i wanna be judged and advised for better future walkovers.

Happens to all of us. Hope you and your 135 get well soon and be fit as ever!

Just 4 things I'd want to add:
                1. Kindly overtake only from the right. No bahaana that its not possible within city limits. Be patient. I din't know why everyone in our country is in such a tearing hurry on the road when everything in this country happens so slow!
                2. No ipods/music players/phones while riding/driving.
                3. Kindly wear a basic jacket every time you ride if a proper riding jacket is off the radar.
                4. Learn/practice panic braking.
                Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

disc brakes are to be loved and craved for. they are a boon to any rider. practise, practise... keep your index and moddle fingers on brakes. learn to put pressure evenly but firmly rather than jabbing it.

what you see is what you ride. observe, imagine, and be prepared always.

counter steering is a technique that might have been useful to you . push left handle bar to go left, push right to go right.. use them in emergency situations only, but unless you practise them regularly you wont be able to use it.

                    hey legend

yeah i keep my fingers right + no jabbing and have gotten better at the front disc but i think only bcz P-135's have no bite.
the stopping distance is quite big or may be its jus my bike.
but give me any other bike with front n back discs without ABS and i think i would rather try and fly away intentionally than apply both discs

Counter steering is an alien word but the technique is somewht embedded i think even if in a crude form.
no offence but im one lazy ass to practice alone.

Simply put, feel free to use the front disc along with the rear brakes. Both the brakes should be used with good coordination. Once you start using it simultaneously, you will understand it better and get used to it. If the tyres are in good shape and the disc/brake pads hasn't worn too much, go ahead and use them. You know your bike better!

Feel the groove when off the road bro, would keep you as well as others safe on road. Moreover, its a traffic voilation.

Can't do anything but be patient. Our country doesn't have the infra or the traffic sense. Hence, one must learn to adapt.

                            # the adaptation is gonna take time. at times it feels just plain stupid. everyone should be free to change lanes if done in a fairly safe manner, especially bikers otherwise whats the point of riding a two wheeler if your still stuck in traffic and cant cut it ??

                            # the protective gear at least the gloves would be here next month soon. havent narrowed down on the jacket yet. i guess once they are here it will be getting used to them too.

This is one topic which is really debatable and even I haven't got a final answer. But the fact of the matter is, listening to high pitched (volume) music is illegal in 4 wheelers. I guess there is a limit and a biker obviously isn't as safe as a cager and hence no music is allowed, however low the volume be! Also, a rider needs to be a lot more aware and involved when compared to a cager.

                              # the adaptation is gonna take time. at times it feels just plain stupid. everyone should be free to change lanes if done in a fairly safe manner, especially bikers otherwise whats the point of riding a two wheeler if your still stuck in traffic and cant cut it ??

Cutting through traffic was never the meaning of using a 2 wheeler (in India). Its meant for cheaper commutes from point A to B.
Whoever gave you the above lesson on cutting traffic as the main use of 2 wheelers is an idiot!

                              # the protective gear at least the gloves would be here next month soon. havent narrowed down on the jacket yet. i guess once they are here it will be getting used to them too.

Yes, get them soon. In the meantime, any thick denim type jacket would give (a sense of) some protection.

                              # if city is not the place then highways are Definitely no place to Learn new stuff.
given a choice i will choose the city.

No, you can't cut lanes on a highway either! Attempt it, and you'll soon perish. What I wanted to convey was w.r.t red lining in every gear. Heading onto a highway doesn't give anyone the right to become a moron. Nobody's daddy owns the roads you see.
I hope you try to understand what I'm saying rather than argue.

Once you start using it simultaneously, you will understand it better and get used to it. If the tyres are in good shape and the disc/brake pads hasn't worn too much, go ahead and use them. hey petrolhead

thanks for the "like".......my first ever on xbhp ( im straight by the way....... but 1st is the first )

yea the braking is pretty comfortable at speeds below 80kph i have read somewhr on site that braking mainly relies on the front tyre + simultaneous stuff but when im at higher speeds i use the rear drums 1st and then half a second laater apply the front.
on normal speeds i use the front discs 1st in straight line.....always in straight line right ?
or am i doing something wrong here ?
dont know how things will change for a both discs front and rear...........guess i will jus scrape my woodlands then !!
