• Re: The Gymnasium thread: A guide

@Samarth 619 : Valid points mentioned here. If ok , would like to add few more things in the mentioned points.

1) Last line of this point summarised everything. One's natural diet should be balanced first before going for any supplements. Eff protein, also known as "Egg Albumin" is the cheapest form of protein, 100gn of boiled egg white has almost 11-12gm of it, which means a daily diet of 4 is enough for a normal person. But then again , only taking this is not the option. One needs to vary the protein intake.

2) Correct, even if one wants to go for lean body, he needs to have some mass.

3) In these three years of body building , I can say that I have had almost all types of proteins (whey isolate, whey concentrate, casein and soy protein). I am yet to try Hydrolysate , which is the most expensive of all. Will go for that as soon as the income increases
Not exercising and taking proteins is of no use, as mentioned.

4) Healthkart and Healthgenie is the best bet for these. I have had friend who spent around 10k in 3 months for Protein powder bought from a local shop, and it showed no results even after regular exercise. Whereas products brought from above sites showed results in those months.

5) Yes, dosage intake is very important as per weight. Do check the instructions on the box before taking the scoops.

Another thing I want to add here is pre and post workout supplements.
Until and unless one is into hardcore and heavy weights, don't go for these. Its a strict no who are diabetic and have serious blood pressure problems and heart issues too.

Update on me : I have lost 2 more inches from waist (32-33inches) now. The first two upper abs can be seen. Even the oblique abs are prominent now. I am focusing more on lower abs and a broad chest and shoulder to give the upper body a total V shape.
My current weight is still 80kgs for the past 2 months which as per my trainer is ok.

I dont have any kinda decent fitness centre in my village and this youtube channel pretty much became my instructor and it transformed me so much that relatives who have not seen me for over 6 months could not even recognize me now and they all praise my transformation... I lost 35+ kgs in like 1 yr from a obese 120+ kgs to a v tapper...i cant thank this guy enough...he transformed my physique...all that cardio increased my stamina to a whole new level...people who used to make jokes at me for being big now cant keep up with me...recently i went to tirumala and my friends could not keep up with me ...climbed the hill and had to wait for 40 mins for my friends to catch up..feels like 18 all over again .

Here is the channel :

Welcome to Scooby1961 - the channel for life. I do fitness, nutrition, and workout videos but I'm just as likely to do a video on coping with major life setbacks, saving, financial planning, real estate, or investing. I started this channel in 2006 after I retired. I dont do the videos you want, I do the videos you need. I am 61 years old and have always practiced what I preach. I have lifted at least 3x every week since 1982 and consistently do 6-12 hours of cardio a week. I can help guide you because I have been there myself and understand what it is like to be 60 years old and how one lifts differently than an 18 year old. I don’t care how out of shape you are or if you have ever been to a gym before, you CAN get in better shape than you were at age 30! Its never too late to start fitness and bodybuilding.

@sarbanoxley : Wow!!! Thats a big "loss" you have done. Would love to hear the detailed version, its good to share, May be I could get some pointers. A before and after pic would be nice.

And that pain of being "fat", I know it very well and I know how it feels when we surpass them in every aspect, that is "The Fuel" to keep it burning.

Good thread in xbhp.

The good thing is many are following this thread and striving to fit.

Fitness as a style of life is often ignored in india. I have been working out for 13 years now.

What started out at a football field, has become an obsession in life.
Most of you are may be fit and trying to be fitter. I love that as nothing is better than maintaining health.

I don't know whether i am fit or not. May be friends can tell.

Members like RohIIT, paul.1911, shoeb2015, Divyasharan, @rrneave, have seen my photos on whatsapp.

So they can be better judge of my.

But i am glad that many members are taking fitness seriously.

Since you've been training for 10 years now (this is for others to know), it'd be most prudent you share simple tips for all to follow and take a leaf out of.
I'd suggest 2 formats:
1. For people looking at fitness (only).
2. For people aiming at muscle mass.

Make that 13 years. I have been remaining fit for last 13 years.

Yeah i would like to guide people here and also bring in motivations but i do not know where to start.

I would like to start from my story as to how and why i got into fitness craze and what is driving me for 13 years to continue on the path.

But i fear the story will be long. But i will write it so that many can get a leaf and move out of excuse of not working.

And by the way divya, i had given you a plan. Hope you are following diligently.

sibun - bring it on man. Though I've been into fitness my whole life, I can still talk about it for ages. Just need good listeners. And here we have enough time to read through your story and learn few thing and continue our quest for fitness. Xbhp has enough space and we definitely have enough time to go through stuff like that. You can notice how excited I already am asking you to start typing.

Btw I'm starting a new schedule. I call it explosive workout. It's to improve core strength and mainly to improve the following - balance, speed, reaction time and time to complete explosive movements. Since I've been into martial arts, I think this should work to improve my fighting skills. Will try it for a few months before sharing it.

Beat my own record of highest leg press. 250kgs done (no support). I know tomorrow I wont feel my legs

But this feeling of beating yourself is just amazing. I was apprehensive that I wont be able to do it myself, but here the trainer's motivation comes handy.

P.S : The whole gym was watching, I guess I am the second one to reach this limit.

prateek2210 - that's a tough task to replicate man. Congrats for the feat. I saw John Cena doing squats with 600pounds. that's like 272kg and I thought that's near impossible. But you're not even into full time body building and still 250kg? I can just imaging what your legs might be feeling or rather what they wouldn't be feeling :P
Do keep us updated if you happen to achieve something like this in bench presses or other exercises.
Recently I've had this fascination of kicking high. Didn't get much opportunity during my fighting days as opponents were rarely taller than be. I'll see if I can measure it and post some numbers here.

@R-series : Ya saw John Cena's 600 pound squats. I wish I could do that, I am still stuck at 180kgs max.
Leg press is slightly easier than Squat, I will stay at 250kg for sometime and then move ahead.

On flat bench press, I have done 110kgs, that was the highest, still apprehensive to cross that.
My only weak point is my shoulder, a muscle tear that happened during school time, stops me from increasing weights frequently.

P.S : I know how did early morning business, taking help of pipes and what not :P

Thats a feat Prateek. Congrats on that. Walk in Strong Crawl out stronger is what runs on my mind during the leg days
Am training alone and occasional company of my parter as i workout early morning - slowly working up the weight slowly - have started tracking the max weight from last month

Squat's - 280 lb x 8 (127 kg)
Bench Press - 320 lb x 4 (145 kg)
Deadlifts - 280 lb x 4 (127 kg)

Planning to keep pushing this way and try my one rep max after a month.. will keep posted on my progress

@bikerfas : Damn, that's some serious weights. Just one confusion, are these total weights or weights on one side of the rod? Even I workout alone, we have spotters in gym too for any help.

Today I noticed few things in my gym. (Will discuss these below)
1. Kids coming to gym in jeans
2. Kids focusing more on biceps and less on legs.

Based on these few points came in my mind, thought of sharing with you all.
• Gym Timing : There are some pros of working out in the morning and evening. Early morning workout keeps us active and energized for the whole day, whereas Evening workout is good from muscle strength point of view, by evening our body is all warmed up for a heavy workout.
• Food before Gym : Try not to have anything heavy before gym, or whatever you have , digest it by the time you hit the gym. More food in our stomach makes us lazy and one is not comfortable even while moving the body.
• Food after Gym : Its a fact you would be hungry after the workout, dont jump onto food just after it. Have food in small quantities.
• Water during workout : Hydrate yourself before the gym, more water intake during workout might cause vomit. Specially if one is doing cardio/abs, dont have water while doing it. Have it afterwards.
• Gym Wear : A gloves, supporter, wrist support, knee support should be a part of your gym bag, no matter what. These are small things but saves us from injury. Avoid anything that is tight, you body should have free movement. Jeans are a strict no-no. My gym is making gym wear mandatory by next month. I wear sleevless tee during workout, so that I have free movement. One can wear loose tee too.
• Music : Its a very good motivator and keeps us away from distraction. But make sure the cord of the headphone should not be hanging loose. It can get entangled with the gym machines and do remember Final Destination movie, anything could happen :P
• Focus : Focus only on your exercise, doesnt matter what the other guy is doing. If he is doing wrong, correct him once, thats it. If you have females in gym, I know its difficult to control the eyes, but do avoid it. One person actually fell off from treadmill while oggling at other girl on treadmill.
• Body-parts : Dont focus on just one body part. Its comes as a whole and should be trained as a whole. A body part needs 24hour rest to grow.

Will edit this post if I find anything that I missed.

My target to be in 68 - 70 kg weight range with lean muscle with good core and agility, right now in 73kg - inching towards the goal
