In the last 10 months, i have lost and gained weight along with my waist line.
In may '14, i was 89kg and close to 36' waist line (i don't look that fat [emoji14] ) and started job that time. Then till October I suppose, weight went down to 80.5kgs and waist to 32. Now at present, i am close to 86kgs and 35' waist All this with more or less same diet. But with slightly less physical work towards latter. And i get so exhausted at work that i don't do any gym.
Any suggestions on how i can stop gaining weight ? Running is what i do sometimes, but not regularly.

    Ride safe and have fun.

Though not an expert, but my advice:
      1. Do NOT diet. Rather, try to have 5 small meals a day (at least - carry a tiffin)
      2. Sleep for 7 hours or more daily.
      3. Don't start with heavy exercises. Start with something you can sustain and build up on!
      4. Try the HET exercises mentioned by R previously.
      5. TIP: you haven't lost an ounce until you start sweating. So, don't give up/stop just when you've begun sweating. Always warm up and warm down before and after your sessions.
      Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Has anyone tried the GM diet here, Any significant weight loss you have seen by that ? I am not that hefty to follow a GM diet, but someone would have followed and seen some good results.

Dieting ? Na bro, what i meant was my intake of food remained the same. I don't like to starve myself [emoji14]
And i do sleep for 7-8 hours regularly.

As for exercises, i am guilt here.
I thought that i have to be standing/roam for around 3-4 hours daily and i skipped the exercise part. Looks like that doesn't help beyond a certain point.

My team mate tried it. She was over weight and frankly speaking, I didn't see any difference after the 1 week schedule. She said she lost 3 kg though!
Downside - she looked very weak after the 3rd day. Survived somehow!

To get result, you would require to commit.

Considering a bike, you can't afford to miss a gear+ride without a helmet+use one hand on the handlebar+use rear brake only, etc. and still manage to keep yourself safe and the bike's health in place. There should be balance of everything. As much as you enjoy other stuff like food and sleep you have to enjoy same amount exercise in order to maintain yourself. If you want to improve, you have to push your workout. Running and walking or rather any other exercise won't help if you're not pushing yourself.
For eg. After 3 weeks of kickboxing my body adapts to it and don't see any improvement in my side obliques (for which I actually do kicks), so I have to stop and do some other exercise to challenge the body.
Even if it's running or walking, try to improve your time or distance to get results in the same pace as the 1st few days.

Correction! Dieting isn't starving. It's eating properly. I eat more than my folks here in the office and still don't gain anything

Fun fact - Sumo wrestlers workout empty stomach, eat 2-3 meals a day till they are full and sleep immediately after dinner. All this is actually to gain size. Unless you want to get into sumo wrestling, you can consider changing your lifestyle.

And guys I personally believe that the way a person keeps his body actually tells a whole lot about his lifestyle. You can't stay in shape by just working out or just eating properly or just sleeping 7-8hrs a day. It has to be a combination of all and other things as well life discipline, hygiene, etc. Ensure to keep your surroundings clean and in shape, go to sleep when you have to, not when you feel like, , complete your tasks in time (office or personal), avoid shortcuts in anything you do. All of this will actually add in keeping you not only physically by mentally healthy as well.
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

Its actually our body adapting to the things we do and stop giving us results after a period of time. Change in routine is what i need.
Apart from skipping exercise most of the time, i do most stuff properly that you mentioned. Need to get this one in line also.

Absolutely. The ability of the body to "adapt" is a boon and a bane.
The body slows down and relaxes if it doesn't do any activity, it can increase its appetite if you feed it more than required, it can sleep more than required if you keep on sleeping.
On the other side, it becomes faster and stronger due to regular workout, it starts to survive on less food if you feed less and it can also learn to stay on top shape of you give it less sleep-like Bruce Lee. He slept only 5hrs a day.
However, this ability to adapt increase from like 5,6yrs to around 24-26yrs. And it reduces after that.

Good to see some action in this thread

as others have mentioned being fit is to be your lifestyle. how you eat, what you eat, how active your are and how you organize your daily routines from work , home, your personal time.

anyone with some hardwork and determination can lose weight but to be conistent and to maintain what you have achieved is going to take all your sheer determination and focus. times will be there were you are held up with work and family commitments but you can still thrown in a 15 - 30 minutes of some active session (doesnt have to be gym you can it home or anywhere with your own body weight).

personally for me - my transformation to being fit has changed to be functionally fit -- to be strong and atheletic balance - which is more of functional training.

coming to Food... first thing when i say am on diet - people think i dont eat :-) but actually i eat everything as i plan my meals and prepare them and take it with me so that i dont have to grab or look out for a fast food or some snack. Dieting is eating right - One's food should have Greens, Dairy, Nuts, Fruits in a day's meal.

Mostly importantly sleep. Human body is machine and its needs proper attention and maintainence like how we love and take care our motorcycles. If you put in crap then it is going to spoil it, if you put it well quality stuff and proper maintainence it would keep running for long.

Finally to summarize... everything comes to what we eat - food is the main component for our healthy living. Keep it clean and on time - your body will show wonders what it can do.

                      Hello guys,

Just took a 5 min break from my new shedule tonight. Wanted to share this with you guys.
Last sunday I participated in that run at the BIC I talked about previously. Last year I won that. Came 1st.

This year I was 1st in the men's category only. Overall I was 2nd. There was actually a female professional athlete from the Track and field clinic, Delhi who came 1st. Because of her, I actually broke my personal best of 20 min. I covered 5.14km in 19:53 min. Here's a pic after the race.

My expressions would tell you it wasn't easy

This new schedule is more of strength and less cardio for the approaching summers.
Just done with bodyweight exercise. One to kicks and wrap it up with some ground strike techniques with the punching bag. Total 1hr workout including 15 min(5+5+5) break.

Hey guys. Nice to see this thread here. I have a few queries. I am 17 and about 5'8 but severely underweight. I am thinking of joining a gym in the coming days. I don't want to develop a body or abs like most of the guys out there, i just want to gain some weight and about 2-3 inches of height. Please suggest on what exercises to perform and what diet to take (no supplements please). The reason i am asking for help here is because the trainers in the nearby gyms have no info whatsoever in this regard. They just know one thing which is dolle banana. :P Thanks in advance.

Bro, that is why i asked about what diet intake. Anyway, thanks. Will follow what you said. And i have heard bad things about supplements and hence want to gain weight without them. My knowledge in this regard is vague so please pardon me if is say something wrong.

Physique and height are all part of your genetics. If you are genetically weak (like most of us are), you can NEVER build muscles like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Similarly if you're genetically small (from the older generations), do anything and you will NOT gain much in height.
Start playing basketball. Use the football post for some fun time hanging around.

Avoid junk food and eat everything. You may want to ask your mom to keep oil a bit low in case you usually eat more oil.
                              You're only 17. Build a strong core.

i weighed less than 50 to be precise between 45 to 48 when i was 17 but as soon as boards were over i joined a gym which costed rs.50 a month !! yes !!

For the first 6 months we were so pissed on instructer we thought he is just teasing us as he did not give any weight training he made us do all streching, Suryanamaskar, Pull up, Dips etc no bloody WEIGHT training

But now after 5 years i realized that START UP is most important and all natural exercises he made us do had increased stamina beyond our limits later on he told us dont take supplements depend on FRUITS LIKE 2 to 3 BANANS APPLEs and for buffing boiled potatoes that too half a dozen (small ones) at a time
we followed this everyday and gradually increasing weight training gave me what i wanted

Its a slow process have patience and importantly passion and consistency

Note : suryanamaskar is most important...the only exercise includes stretching of most part of body

p.s I am not a professional body builder the write up is just experience of which i am glad that i did
