E71: Quarrel of the QWERTY’s | Symbian-Guru.com) and this is what the author says "Now, while I am a Nokia Maps user, I am easily able to get by with Google Maps Mobile, which uses a combination of GPS and cell-tower triangulation to figure out where you’re at. It’s not as accurate as straight GPS, but it’s close enough for most people, and I don’t see this being a major issue, frankly."

Just to clarify what you and he have said, does this mean that with an E63, I can load Google Maps onto my phone (using a wifi connection) & get my location (from the cell tower triangulation bit) ? Also if I am outside a wifi network / bereft of a gprs connection (basically if I am roaming on my bike and Im lost), will I be able to access the maps ? Can someone direct me to a link on the same ?

Trying to decide between the E63, E71 & the newly released Samsung B7320.
GPRS/ Wifi does speed up the location services. But, without them also one can use GPS, although locking in to satellite takes up some time, around 2-4 minutes in case of my Samsung INNOV8...
If you want GPRS to assist you in locating, then you should choose a set with Assisted GPS or "A-GPS" function.
Google Maps saves a downloaded map for about 1 week. So, if you have no internet access, you can still access Maps for 7 days from the download time. (In my INNOV8 also)

But remember, only downloaded maps can be shown on G.Maps. So, if you are at an unknown place whose map was not downloaded, it won't show up.
However, you can still get latitude & longitude information from anywhere in the world, and then plot it on a Real Map (I mean, hard copy) to know where you are...
Moreover, other navigation softwares have different conditions. Try 'em all...

If you are deciding between these sets, kindly list me your needs & preference (like what camera, how good music you need, etc.). I'll try to help ...

      • okay guys.. people here discuss some high end phones.... like the P220/ZMA/R15

Let me pull your attention to a puny Sunny I hope someone can effectively clarify my doubt...

Nokia 1661 or 1680. Low end mobile phones. They have a port for connecting data cable but do not come with one. Here are my questions:

        1) Can I get a data cable for these phones? Any pointers where I can?
        2) Can I get software for these phones? Any pointers how I can?
        3) My purpose is to sync the address book between my Nokia 5610D and say the Nokia 1661. Is that possible?

If someone can confidently say it works, I shall first get the data cabe, the software and then buy the phone Thank you

          Main requirements
          1. Phone with a QWERT keypad
          2. Connectivity to my office email / gmail (any idea how much the providers charge for unlimited GPRS these days ? Have a vodafone prepaid currently)
          3. Starting to do some touring these days. So a phone with GPS will be a help. (Hence the E71 & the new Samsung B7320). Though a phone with the route and details on google maps saved (like Samarth said the maps stay on the phone for a few days) will do since I always use Google maps to plot my route. This again isnt a substitute for a GPS system but it kinda fits my requirements. Hence the E63 shortlist. Plus its price has dropped to below 11k now, which makes it very tempting.

Samsung is apparently coming out with the B7330 soon so I dont mind waiting for that. E71 is also 3k more than the Samsung and for that money I can get a GPS package. Am in no hurry to buy the phone so I can wait for new phones that are coming out in the next couple of months as well that fulfill these requirements. Any suggestions ?

Both the phones can record calls. As of multimedia, its great in N97. Audio Quality is good, and Camera is near excellent. However, N900 needs to be tested before I can comment on multimedia.
Office Suites should be coming with both phones, or I can arrange one after you purchase it...

Man, I'm so confused. So many queries in this thread... What to answer?

There is a data cable for such phones but they are used for transferring Polyphonic ringtones, as far as I know.
As of contacts, I suppose you can use a SIM Card to transfer them ... This link might help you to gether info:-->
