  • @abhimanyu31: I am really impressed by your description on the R16. I can not wait to get Joel's kit on my bike. The best part is a close friend of mine got it done from Joel recently( still in run-in) and Joel's new workshop is 8km from my home. The sad part is: being a student, I can not afford this kit till next july . I have a doubt: My stock R15 is giving me 36-40kmpl. Will it increase or remain the same after i put the kit. I do not have a problem with the current efficiency, but i would feel better if it crosses the 40kmpl mark often. I operate the bike at 5-7k on an average and do not rip the bike quite often. It has finished its 3rd free service 0n 22july. I maintain the bike pretty decently. Any particular reason why it doesn't cross the 40+ benchmark. I have seen many people , who operate their bikes at 8-9k rpm and get decent mileage. Can you please advice me? My bike is set at 1.3k idle rpm. Is it OK?

Hey Joel this must be a stupid question but I guess you (the guru) are the best to be consulted on this .... The mods for the R15 V1.0 ... Is it compatible on the V2.0 ????

                  • R170?

                    Hi,

a friend of mine recently got his R15(2009 model) souped up courtesy Joel, Race Concepts. He went ahead with the Stage III Upgrade, the highest spec offered by Joel:

                    STAGE III UPGRADE:
                    01) 172cc bigbore block
                    02) Free Flow Exhaust
                    03) Simota Air Filter
                    04) Racing Camshaft
                    05) Racing Valve Springs
                    06) Racing Clutch Springs
                    07) Cylinder Head Work
                    08) Full Race Head
                    09) Custom Air Intake
                    10) programmable ECU (POWERTRONIC) etc.

Unfortunately, my friend met with an accident (collision with a stationary truck thanks to unmarked turns and construction without any warning signs on the unlit highway and the poor stock lights on the bike). thank god nothing happened to him.Although, the speeds at which the accident took place were relatively low (under 30-40kms), but the Race Concepts FF Exhaust took a major hit and got kinda squished in this whole event. No damage to the bike's chassis or the radiator. The right hand side fiber panel took most of the hit besides the FFE. We are taking it over to the SVC to get a thorough check up of the whole bike and replace whatever is necessary.

He will be ordering a replacement FF Exhaust from Joel soon enough. As per my conversation with Joel, Race Concepts is soon going to Offer Next GEN FFE's with better stainless steel.

The bike when in stock, was in a horrible condition, with just under 10,000 kms on the odo: clutch, clutch bells, pressure plates, coneset, handle, speedometer etc. completely fried as the previous owner from whom my friend had got the bike from abused it too much and without even taking care of the basic servicing.Joel took the pains of replacing everything whatever was possible and not charging for most of the parts which is commendable. Now the bike is in a much better condition.

Anyways, i have an opportunity to take care of the R17 (if i may call it) for nearly a week and shall post my review's on Abhimanyu's thread (if he allows it ).

                    Initial impressions:

                    1) It is very difficult to keep the revs under the run-in period as the bike post surgery just wants to leap and hit the red line in no time.

                    2) i did a short dash and the bike was hitting 97-98 kms at 7000 rpm and that too without sweating a bit... i am yet to test the full speed shifting every gear at redline as we are taking a preventive step of 1000 kms run - in. Before my friend had the accident, the R17 had finished 650 kms of run-in so far.

                    3) as every R16 owner has reported, the bike now is capable of pulling from 25 kmph being on 6th gear. The lower end torque has reached FZ's territory.

Once, the run-in is over and post check ups at SVC i shall take it on a highway run and do some tests i.e thrash mode, top speed run, FE run and overall change in the feel of the bike.

                    Cheers

                      • GTech Fanatic RR

Finally !!! After 8 frustrating months I have got my hands on a GTech Fanatic RR data logger. I was on the verge of giving up on the GTech and ordering a Racelogic Drift-box, however, I get a call from my cousin telling me that he has received the GTech. After that it was a matter of waiting patiently till someone from U.S. was coming down (that took another 2 months). Now that I have it in my hands I am an eager beaver to start testing. Unfortunately, its going to be couple of weeks before I can do it as I have a very heavy work schedule and also have guests (one of whom carried it for me) who will need to be entertained.

                        Now coming to the GTech Fanatic;

The packing consist of 4 items; The GTech Fanatic data logger with a micro SD flash card (installed), the SD card USB adaptor, a power cord and suction cup with mounting bracket. There is also a quick start guide of about 10 pages. A comprehensive manual in PDF format is available on the GTech website and is required as the unit is loaded with lots of features. There was suppose to be a CD with a software called PC Analysis System Software (PASS) but the same was missing. However, that is a minor issue as the latest version of the software is readily available on the website and is a reasonable 12 mb file (only problem is that its a .exe file so will need to load Windows on my laptop ).

The GTech Fanatic Pro RR data-logger with power cord and mounting bracket.

The GTech Fanatic Pro RR unit.

The GTech is a surprising compact and small unit. It is a unit that is so small and light that it gives one a pause of thought on how fast technology is developing. Consider this fact, the GPS system become fully operational and open for civilian use only in 1994. Wide spread use of GPS really took off only at the start of this millennium. One can only shake their head in wonder as to what will be the next technological step.

                        A small and compact unit.

Compared to the Racelogic Driftbox, the GTech has less features, but it is still a powerful measuring instrument. The one place where Driftbox really scores over the GTech is that it is a truly independent unit not requiring any external power source as it has a battery pack as part of the unit.

Since the GTech requires a external power source (a DC power cord with a cigarette lighter adapter), I had also ordered a Powerlet 12 DC cigarette socket system.

                        The Powerlet Cigarette Socket system.

I plan to test my bike along with a stock R15 at the same time which has completed 5,000 kms to ensure that a common base for comparison is obtained as many of the variables are neutralized to some extent.

Now where in this town will I find a kilometer of lonely, level and well asphalted stretch to carry out the tests ??? Also any volunteers for the stock R15 ???

Turn green and the whole story changes. The front wheel refuses to stay till 2 gears and then my 7-8secs to 100kph shows up. Its a rush that cant be explained. Its very close to the driftbox in terms of data accuracy. The Gtech has an added advanatage of comparing upto 5 runs at once.
