Nice DIY man though bit unsafe at high speeds with the wind blast hitting your helmet and the set up don't you think? I have though shamelessly gone ahead with go pro set up courtesy friends and an office cam .

    Cheers,

Not really, the thing is if you crouch a little, the wind wont even impact the phone directly. The small windshield (or whatever you call it ) on RTR helps a little in deflecting. I have managed 130+ and it didnt budge even a little. But yes, it has to be safely mounted.

Look forward to the gopro vids of your FZ18!

Also, there might be another update from my side soon

It is mentioned in the same post, the max I got was 35kmpl. These days I am mostly riding in city so I am getting variations from 31-34kmpl. Also the bike is slowly aging (20000+kms) so the chain sprocket set and clutch plates might have to be replaced soon.

            Thanks for the reply mate
I'm too considering 33 mm semi-flat slide form Joel for fz 16

Re: When the mean becomes meaner, the RTR190

              A small update :

Had been on a 700kms ride last sunday (you can read log here if interested http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/2...tml#post947422)

For the initial 430kms run, the FE comes close to a staggering 41kmpl! Which I cannot believe myself. The reason is also a mystery, but the bike was crazily smooth in the ghats (ooty & post ooty part) Most probably that weather gave the perfect tune. (But the carb bikes are supposed to run richer at higher altitudes due to lesser air pressure). The FE seem to have reverted back to the older figures (30-35kmpl) now that I am in Blore!

Anyways, here is a video shot using jugaad GoPro from Ooty - Kotagiri. For those wanting to hear exhaust notes, enjoy

Due to slow broadband, I had to upload bad quality version.

Sticker or No Sticker.. Free Flow Exhausts are never street legal mainly coz of the DB levels.. they are just too loud
But then again, Enfield's shouldn't be legal either :P so.. everything is street legal..

Agree with xtremevirus here. To add a few points, this FFE with dB killer IS ALMOST street legal, since the sound level is greatly reduced (Much lesser than enfields!). Also many FFE dont follow emission norms but RC FFE is way below the pollution limit. (I have the PUC certificate if any one wants proof )

                    Hope this clears your doubt

I have had Joels FFE on my RTR 180 - 09 Model since Feb-11....ridden for 29 k and a big bore setup since Mar-12 ridden for 19k kms, The power upgrade was significant but with the kit came its own share of problems. Had to replace the crankshaft assembly and dynamo kit once and the 1 way starter clutch twice apart from minor niggles. Also to keep the FFE sound bassy and smooth (i had the FFE without DB killer) you have to fill it with good quality glass wool which i did. Its just my experience that the bike needs constant attention to ensure the power delivery is consistent and somehow i lost faith in my bikes reliability post the upgrades. I would only recommend Joels kit to people who want to enjoy the power and thrill at the cost of extra maintenance n reliability. My best stats on the bike were 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and 141 kmph on speedo. i sold my ride recently after clocking 49k kms in 4 years.

Agree with you bro, there will be minor niggles and issues & more so which are related to tuning since it is difficult to get the tuning spot on! It does need constant attention for best power delivery always, but it might also be the case with stock ones too. And even if you have dB killer for the FFE, the glass wool has to re filled periodically.

And that is quite many miles you have munched on your ride! And very interesting stats too! I am very bad at 0-60 so stopped checking it.

Btw, my ride completed two years last sunday with ODO reading of 23k kms. It has been a very good journey so far (with many ups & downs ) and this being my first bike, will always be my favorite!

Did the tuning of the semi flat carb myself with the right jets and the fuel screw setting. Plug chop tests revealed brown colour spark plug tip for 1/4th and 1/2 throttle, indicating somewhat proper tune whereas black colour for 3/4th & full throttle, indicating richer tune, which explains why FE is almost similar whether it is highways or city (30-35kmpl).

Will be changing the clutch plates soon & switch the engine oil to 300V.

I will be getting my rtr 180 joel'd soon. But before that i wanted to change my tyres, stock tyres were sick.So i changed my front tyre to mrf nylogrip zapper fy-1 90/80-17(r 15 v2 front tire) and pirelli mt 75 110/80-17 in the rear.Is it a good combo?or should i change the front tyre?because stock front tyre size is 90/90-17.Will it lead to any problem?

Hi, Got my rtr joel'd last month. Just finished the run in. Ride has been good so far except for minor issues which got sorted. Really enjoying the bike. Checked the mileage-43kmpl in Bangalore traffic. But this was during the initial 500kms. So far so good. Would like to thank Adarsh_Bk for helping me.

I hope you know what you are getting into. Do understand the risks and the loss in peace of mind when you get into the world of hotrodding.

Regarding tyres, I guess the ones you have got is fine & is much better than stock anyway. Do post this query in tyres thead for better answers (http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...tyres-537.html).

I have told you the pros and cons in detail so hope you understood everything before you took the plunge!
But I wish you many more miles with the kit. Apart from performance bump, the biggest advantage is the reduction in vibes which does help a lot in touring.

Both of you, please do go through this thread http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/general-...e-fz18-45.html (atleast the last few pages!) for a better understanding of hotrodding and the risk involved with it.
