I think tik tik sound generally comes when you run the bike at high speeds and then come to a halt or you run the bike for long without breaks in between. It doesn't generally happen(in a noticeable way) whenever you take the bike out for a short spin.

Do you realize that you are comparing two products that are selling at two different price points and still expecting same quality?Originally posted by Rohan200ns View Post

Yes Sir, having the bill low on pocket will always bring back a smile. Any part that gets banged up/damaged needs replacing, but not sure how many ppl calculate the exhaust cost when buying a bike, after all it isn't an oil filter that needs frequent replacements. Certainly the P200NS exhaust costs lesser and has brought down the overall price tag, now why to think about replacement cost? its well secured that it cannot be banged that easily .
I have one question, if the third spark isn't a wasted-spark then all three plugs operate in the same cycle/timing? is that true?
The cat-con will always be red-hot after warming up the bike to a certain extent. So while parking after a ride the catcon starts cooling down, hence it gives the tik tik sound from the exhaust. (May be it contracts the mesh when getting cold). May be the Duke's exhaust has some new catcon design, like a way-type used in cars instead of mesh type that is commonly used on bikes.Originally posted by vrugonnab View PostDo you realize that you are comparing two products that are selling at two different price points and still expecting same quality?

I'm not too sure about technical details of catcons, but you can very well hear tik tik sounds from a car exhaust as well !Originally posted by HarishK View PostThe cat-con will always be red-hot after warming up the bike to a certain extent. rode the bike for 173kms yesterday .. ride included highway runs , uphill ghats , downhill blasts , city rides ..still no 'tik tik' sound from echaust when i parked it at home ...took it to nandi hills yesterday with 2 of my friends who were riding classic500 and thunderbird twinspark ... i am 100% sure that there is never a 'tik tik' sound from duke exhaust after any sort of ride ...Originally posted by vrugonnab View PostI'm not too sure about technical details of catcons, but you can very well hear tik tik sounds from a car exhaust as well !

Please read the Wiki link carefully, it doesn't talk about 3 park plugs. A "A wasted spark" is basically used in multi cylinder engine, and does not serve any purpose and is wasted. It' just that the plugs fire in pairs. In a single cylinder engine, a wasted spark is again "wasted"! From wiki "capitalise on the simplicity and reliability of the flywheel magneto" and nothing else.Originally posted by HarishK View PostThe article talks about a multi spark ignition, where the main spark (1 or 2) is fired on the compression stroke and the other spark fires at the exhaust stroke to remove the unburnt exhaust gas, which is called Wasted-spark. Dont confuse it with Twin spark technology where both the sparks are fired on the compression stroke itself. You can check the Twin spark definition at last in the same article.
Now Pulsars already have the Twin spark ignition and here the 3rd spark in P200NS is a Wasted-spark that operates on the exhaust stroke. This wasted spark has no impact on the bikes performance or mileage coz its timed to fire at the exhaust stroke to burn the left over. Hence it eliminates the need for a catcon.
Payeng sir will be able to throw more light on Tri-spark....
I hope you over-looked my comment, I have clearly mentioned "WERE" is my comment, coz exhaust failures were very common on pre-2009 Pulsars. I hope today none of the vintage Pulsars on road run with their original exhaust, while an equally aged CBZ has no such issues on its exhaust (again a very few exceptions are present)
Please see this link regarding how waste spark is used in a Single Cylinder Engine, it does not need any additional plugs http://www.gill.co.uk/products/digit...wast_spark.asp
To put thing in simple way a "waste spark" is a result / byproduct of some or the other feature, it's not the source of some feature, I hope this makes it clear!
Please do a proper research before posting something.
It is certain that the third spark plug, does not fire on exhaust stroke. You can't deny every damn review of triple spark to be fake, or a marketing gimmick. Why The Pulsar 200 NS Has 3 Spark Plugs | MotorBeam - Indian Car Bike News & Reviews
I haven't posted it, but mine did hit the speed breaker, with a pillion! And yes this was in Bangalore.Originally posted by vrugonnab View PostLet me guess, that should be in Bangalore, I would be shocked if it's not
The Speed Breaker was too sharp and high!
I'm not sure why it doesn't sound in your bike. But I did hear the tak tak sound (though much faintly compared other bikes) on of my friends 1200Kms old Duke.Originally posted by Rohan200ns View Postrode the bike for 173kms yesterday .. ride included highway runs , uphill ghats , downhill blasts , city rides ..still no 'tik tik' sound from echaust when i parked it at home ...took it to nandi hills yesterday with 2 of my friends who were riding classic500 and thunderbird twinspark ... i am 100% sure that there is never a 'tik tik' sound from duke exhaust after any sort of ride ...

In Payengs bro's blog, it is written NS (probably DUKE too.) has small Catalytic Converter than other normal bikes. So there is no sound after long rides..Originally posted by rahuldevnath View Post

So i think you've heard it. But sound is fainted because of CC is small.sigpicUSED IN PAST: Ct100, Victor, Xcd 135For a true motorcyclist, the straight portions of the roads exist just to take him from one turn to the next!

My duke is 3 months and 3500 kms old now.recently i was doing updown for 10 days consisting of 50 kms road(60% highway, 30% city and 10 % village roads.decided to keep a mileage log and i got 42kmpl WITH speeds always excess of 120 on highway.a member, on facebook has got about 48.his bike too was in post run in period.so its very likely for rohan to get that figure wherein his bike is under running in and his half journey was downhill.just because you are not able to get a good mileage doesnt mean anybody else cant get it, right?Motorcycling heals, big time...
