  • Seems the interceptors have disappeared from CV Raman road for the time being (the stretch from Sadashivnagar Police Station upto Mekhri Circle). Also there used to be one after the curve near Le Meriden but thats also gone.

    • Been meaning to reply for some time but something or the other stopped me.

Before is say anything let me tell you that i ride quite hard and fast but i don't ride rash, there is a difference.

And mostly i avoid paying bribes. Please don't. If you know you were over speeding please own up and pay. Paying 100 to him will just make him greedy and catch more people whether or not they were over-speeding.

Now, if the speed limit is 60 you can do 60 and if someone catches you well go fight for it. They can't challan you for overspeeding till the time they have got an interceptor which has your bike's number and speed you were doing. Otherwise as far as i know it is not legally acceptable. If you have time you can go fight in the court. Tell them you won't pay and they can issue a challan. Any cop asking for money and not giving you a receipt or a challan is just a crook. Not down his name and call 100 and tell them.

As far as arguing is concerned, you have every right to ask why you are booked and whatever else you might want to know.
As far as i remember you were caught for overspeeding and when argued they added rash driving too. It will be difficult to prove in court that you were driving rashly if the speed gun showed you were doing just 62. While the speed limit was 60. Don't let them fool or scare you.

I know am talking like an idealist as no one has the time to go to courts, but if you have go make a fight out of it. If you don't pay the fine, never the bribe. Also it helps to know what are the fines for various offences. And never, ever pay money without taking a receipt that mentions your offence. And that offence should match with what you were told that you were being booked under.

Well you may ride hard but not rash however people out there don't easily understand the difference between hard and rash riding. For them all are the same!! When caught at some place with wrong timing try explaining the difference to them then you will probably realize what i meant.!

Well it's not about paying 100/200/300 rs but its about the rules that have been set without actually coming out and checking the places whether they are appropriate for them or not!!

AFAIK the only place with 60 as speed limit is the road to airport. The rest all roads within the city have a max of 50 (for 2 wheelers) and some have even less than that.
But again the point is not what's the limit, the point is that whether the limit that has been imposed is appropriate for the road or not.

I for one dont see any sense with roads like airport road, hosur road having the limit of 60 for 2 wheelers when the big monsters out there wont even spare a thought to follow that limit and impose the threat of their presence on the puny rides (read 2 wheelers).
Or are these limits to prevent the bloody morons who keep their brains (if they have any) in their pockets or back at their home and jump straight on to the road to cross without even giving slightest of trouble to their neck!
I say let them be challaned (Just for the record this was once started in Delhi a year back I guess where pedestrians were challaned for jumping on the roads or crossing the roads at wrong time!).

Regarding the time no comments coz i guess everyone knows the reality. More than time what comes along when you try doing so is a hell lot of hassles and harassment!

Do you think calling 100 will solve the problem? Buddy everyone gets a share from every catch!!!

So you think rash driving is meant when you are riding at very high speeds?? You can ride rashly even in the speeds of 40s 62/60 is almost 50% higher than that
Buddy when someone approaches your friend for anything and you have an opinion on that whom will your friend trust more??? [I guess you got my drift!]

You overspeed if the speed limit has been mentioned on the stretch.
The only speed limit mentioned on the roads then was a board saying 80, with no specifics based on the number of wheels your vehicle ran on!
So technically I did not overspeed.
What irked me even more on that day was the attitude of the cops who refused to admit that there was no such signboard saying 'speed limit for 2-wheelers is 60'. I would have been more than willing to pay up, if they did not throw around their power, acted like people with some brains, & showed sense of public service. Hence this thread.

No offence meant, but the rest of your post is common knowledge.

          • yeah people still our country is among the corrupted country's list with a well deserved ranking as of most government jobs are concerned they re not underpaid but they have paid a hefty amount to get that job that's what which makes them to go corrupted as said by some one here that they come only to get bribe horrible

            • @tibby: Am against the stupid rules as much as you are, but am for not paying the bribes. I wasn't commenting that for you but for other people.

I know that there was no board, like you said, that is why am suggesting that you could have not paid and gone to the court instead, apart from that am afraid there is no other option, unless you know of some seniors that you can complain to.

And to the rest i am sorry if you are old enough to realize that the system is a hopeless parasite. But giving the bribe is just going to feed the system. The laws are made keeping in mind the lowest common denominator, they can be stupid and you can go file a PIL if you know some lawyer who can find logic in your arguments (believe me there is some logic about the laws being stupid), but not doing anything because it involves more effort is not really going to change this stupid system.

Lastly about rash driving, well you are right you can drive a cycle rashly. But here my point was if he was caught in the dead of the night, with not many vehicles there and the speed ticket shows 62 there is a basis for an argument that he was not driving rashly and that charge was added later because he refused to pay the bribe.

Am no lawyer so i don't know whether that will work but hey it is a point and it sounds logical.

I did not pay them a penny as they were imposing mindless traffic offences on me! I knew I was on the right side of the law that day, hence I had to make the call to the SI.

I chose to not put myself through the court case route coz by the time the case would come up for hearing, who knows these jokers would have put up vehicle class wise speed-limit boards across the stretch. In that case, it would all be of no use.
It wasn't practical to collect evidence of non-existence of a 'vehicle class wise speed-limit board' across the almost 20Km stretch of NH7 in question either!

PS: Since you used the word 'you', I thought it was directed at the thread starter i.e. me. Don't worry, nothing taken personally.

                • Interceptor sightings

A quick update on a couple of interceptors I sighted recently:
                  1. Mysore Road: A few meters after RV College, on the opposite side, i.e. towards Bangalore.
The speed limit signboard mentioned 60kmph, even for 2-wheelers.
                  2. Outer Ring Road: 100 meters before Bagmane Tech Park. On the way to Marathalli.
The speed limit signboard here mentions 50kmph for bikes, & 60kmph for cars.

                  Hope this helps.

you can walk in directly to Assistant Commissioner of Police in Infantry Road, its near Indian Express. You can fille a complaint, there the IPS officers are nice.

Infact right at the Police station, you should have asked the police man to come along with you to Commissioners office.

ok. I sort of understand you situation, but I personally wouldn't have done away with 2.2k, even if it meant spending that amount doing rounds to get the corrupt officer sacked/suspended. I know the entire system stinks, but its worth the effort.

Be alert next time. You've only made things easier for that cop, & difficult for other guys who might have gone to him thereafter.

Keep a couple of numbers/ email ids of media handy. & bust these officers the next time they take you for a ride.

                              • While travelling on Eastern Express highway near Mulund-Mumbai I was taken aside by few cops. First they checked all the papers when they knew everything was fine but they had to book me for something, so they told me that I will be fined 100Rs as my Pillion was not wearing a Helmet. I agreed to pay that money to him as I was not the only guy caught there. There were many bikers around. Then I asked them the receipt for the same. He told that they are currently not having receipt book. He told me that if you want you can take it tomorrow or leave your license with me.Why cant these guys have a receipt book if they are imposing a fine on someone. That A**H**e took the money and the next day when I happen to past those guys for the receipt, he refused to recognize. He again told me that my number plate was not correct and it is in Digital font and you need to pay the fine for same. I was really pissed off. I paid them 30Rs and left. But I learnt a lesson. Whenever they show a hand to stop you and you are on a highway just pull your throttle and leave as fast as you can.
