Where I live in Delhi, as soon as you exit the coclony's main road to the Outer Ring road, there is a police barricade and I have always seen motorcyclist being stopped there. I do not know why. You can not speed over there even you are Rossi -its so congested and narrow. I think its becos people on commuter bikes are easy prey. In your case - R15 means - rich guy, will give bribe easily. Its just pure business sense for the cop. (Remember they never joined the police to help people in the first place). He is in the business of extracting bribes. Simple!

and more over when a cop says he will cease the bike it is a shocker. and we just try and get the hell out of there by paying what ever it is we have to.
Will have to start standing up to them cops from now on i guess. this is happening way too often and to way too many people.

@All: I just realised that some of you might not be aware of Interceptor that I have mentioned in the 1st post. Well, interceptor is a jeep of the BTP (Bangalore Traffic Police), that has a high-tech speed gun, and a camera which is connected to a laptop. Each interceptor costs 21 Lakh INR & is used to capture images & speeds of vehicles approaching the interceptor. It can record speeds & images of vehicles moving at a distance as far away as 1.5 Kms from the device, but moving towards it.
@Members from Bangalore: Please feel free to share your 'not so pleasant encounters' with BTP, in this thread!sigpic

This is bad! I am wondering if there were things like this in Hyderabad, I would be caught every single day!
Anyways, I recently stopped here for a routine check&they didn't want to see my RC, even after stopping me. It was under the seat btw.
I agree that most of these cops are out to make a buck, but their main targets are college kids. I made it a point to stay out of their way when I was in college.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Agreed! Language is kind of a hinderance.. But you can speak to any one the senior officers present in the squad. They are generally fluent at English, and are not that bad (if you talk to them in the right way).Originally posted by avinrichards View Postthe big pain is for the outstation guys who dont know the language.

I personally haven't seen any traffic cop over-speeding, but have seen quite a few of them riding helmetless.. Not very recently though, coz they have improved after numerous pics & complaints reported by readers in the newspapers..
Now that these checks are coming to a stop, cheer up..Originally posted by avinrichards View Posti think soo too..

came across this article,
Ride free: no more side stops to check papers
A T Subramanya | TNN
Bangalore: You could be in a hurry to keep an appointment and, besides the red signals and traffic jams, there is one other stop to contend with: men in white and khaki flagging down motorists to check vehicle documents. Well, having zeroed in on this traffic blockage of its own creation, the department has put a stop to such stops.
Additional commissioner of police (traffic) Praveen Sood has given written directions to traffic personnel against unnecessary checking of documents — to keep both road and motorist hassle-free. But this does not mean that the public should stop carrying vehicle papers.
Those who violate traffic rules will be stopped, their documents checked and duly penalized. Sood told TOI: “All officers have been instructed not to stop motorists merely for checking documents. Only when the motorist has committed some visible traffic violation will he/she be stopped. The police will ask for all documents and the motorist will be penalized for non-possession, if documents are not in order.’’
Sood clearly stated that the focus is on good road use behaviour rather than documents. “We are mainly concentrating on traffic violations and to maintain smooth vehicle flow,’’ he said. But commuters who have violated rules like jumping signals, drunken driving, entering one-ways, riding on pavements or riding without helmet will be stopped. Transport vehicles like buses, taxis and autorickshaws should carry permit and fitness certificate. These should be produced for inspection if asked for by a police officer.
Sood explained: “There is a provision of a master card from RTO, which is proof that the driver has all valid documents. If one is carrying the master card, he/she need not carry any other documents.’’
But it is mandatory to carry an emission certificate. However, police have been instructed not to stop motorists merely to check the emission certificate. “In case of emission certificate, traffic police don’t have the provision to fine erring motorists. The department will have to send a notice regarding it to court. The fine amount is at the discretion of the court,’’ Sood added.
I just hope this is implemented. Sounds very sensible. Esp the MASTER CARD

These cops on the Intl airport road are purely money seekers. The moment they realise that u have a good contact and know what u talking, they cant do much.
Last week when we were returning from Nandi Hills after the v-box testing on my R15, they made an attempt to pounce on my friend who was riding my R15 at some 60kph. He just got away. I was driving a Vtec at some 90kph and they didnt bother! They sure know they cant stop a 4-wheeler easily.sigpic

I dont stop for these morons most of the times. I ride an rx.. So if the cop finds nothing to charge, defective sound is always there(moreover its running on an inbuilt silencer). I just rage towards the cop like a bull and quickly cut to the right. Thats how i manage to escape most of the times(depending on the situation). If the situation is not favorable to do this, i slow down and move the bike to the left near the cop like a good boy(so the cop will be expecting me to stop). Then hit the throttle suddenly and cut through.
But i remember one incident where i was caught when I was removing the bike from a parking lot. I was charged for defective number plate and BALD TYRES!!
(ever heard of a charge like this???). Then he wanted me to rev hard to check for defective sound. I started my bike and he was standing to my right. I reved hard, that poor cop didn realize i was holding the clutch(i was in first gear
). Released the clutch and launched the bike. Thus managed to escape...
HOW DUMB COULD THAT COP BE????Last edited by pavan_D_player; 06-30-2009, 01:32 AM...Doping ma veins with a weed called 'SPEED'..

The new airport road interceptor nonsense is going on from many months. I was caught too same way few months back and i was doing 70kmph!
They gave me the same lame reason that 80 kmph speed limit (boards allover the damn road) is for 4 wheelers and for 2 wheelers it's 60 kmph.
I was really in no mood to argue with them, asked them for reciept and they gave me a hand written one! they didn't give the print out as you demanded.
I had to shell out 300 bux too, can't help it, i don't have contacts, nor did i have patience to argue with them, i had my gf with me too, so found it sensible to pay up the so called fine and move on.
This is really irritating, the whole motive behind the govt purchasing interceptors is a big flop, i keep seeing Meru cabs and all big luxury car walas doing 120-140 or more on the same stretch! and they expect me to stick to 60! They won't dare to flag down and cars as they will be road kills if they try to.
I strongly suspect Politician-police nexus in this fine collection, i think they have a daily target to give the saabs and they have to meet it by hook or crook. So we suffer in the end. No use having such expensive interceptor toys with these kind of chimps manning them.Last edited by vaas2000; 06-30-2009, 02:02 AM.
