Cops (& Interceptors) in Bangalore

usually i dont get stopped because of my "doctor" sticker on my bike. If i ever do get stopped i just say im going to the hospital to see a case or something, then they'll let me go. Ive never gotten stopped for a document check or anything, just a drunk driving check.Originally posted by pranay View PostWhat I do is keep a copy of that article. Both in english and in Kannada. So that I can show them whenever there is an incident like that.
Don't be dude. It's the usual thing by the cops...they say the same thing to everyone...
EDIT: Everyone who looks from 'North'.

@All: Its great that we are all sharing our not so good experiences with cops & interceptors here..
However, I think we can put this thread to better use by updating the locations where we spot interceptors, so that we can all be mindful of our speeds (rather than end up getting challaned or bribe the cops) atleast whenever riding on those stretches..
Me spotted one interceptor (Chevy Tavera) on the sarjapur signal(Bellandur) Marthalli road last week. But it was neatly parked and locked. I could see their equipment through the rear windscreen. When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

well you also get them at even on cloged roads like opp HAL Corporate Officer, approaching Minsk SquareOriginally posted by tibby View PostThanks man!
Hehe.. Actually some of us can surely consider taking up the profession.. & in B'lore , its pretty rewarding too.. Considering the number of us who still committ these traffic offences, & end up paying bribes..
Back to the topic:
I have spotted interceptors regulary at:
1. NH7- Between Yelahanka signal & the Airport (1 interceptor on each side of thle 3+3 lane road). I know its a really long stretch, but I guess these losers can be expected to be found anywhere on this stretch.
2. Old Airpot Road- Between Command Hospital (coming from Trinity Circle) & the next junction (Haiku Honda/Sony World). The interceptor usually comes in only post noon, ready to nab speeding vehicles till dusk.
Also, as much as I have noticed, the interceptors are located on long straights only. So pls be careful when entering long-straights on empty & wide roads..

My questions:
1. Why are bikers always targeted by cops? Is it simply because stopping 2-wheels is easier than stopping 4? Or is it because we appear wealthier, having saved on those extra 2-wheels? Or some other reason?
[/QUOTE]
a same insident happened with me a few says ago. i was returning back home from railway station. i was riding on NH71B that connects Bawal(Rewari) industrial area with Rohtak. It was around 7:30pm i was riding slow because of the High Beam incoming four wheelers (who the hell provide then DL when they dont know how to drive on single roads, even bike commutes use to move in high beam even if they see some one coming from opposite side). i was riding at a speed of around 35 kmph and low beam head lights. as i have to turn left for byepass road i turned on my indicator a 100m away from the turn, when i was around 25-30 m away from the turn a saw a cop on left side and a PCR on the right side of the highway. the cop on the left side was already arguing with a scooterist with no helmet. when i came a little close to the turn he left the scooterist and stopped me. he took a look at my bike from all around, care fully looked at the number plates, then i asked him wat happened, he in a hard tone asked me to show the papers. i pulled out my papers from the purse and handed over to him in the mean while i saw a three wheeler full of pessengers till the roof top went passed me but the cop doesent stopped him, a swift at around 60 moved by me along with those truck were heavily moving on the road. in such heavy traffic condition why did he choosed me to show my papers??? but i controled my self a was watching that foolish cops looking at my papers. then he said " mein bade sahaab ko dikha ke aata hun" (im going to show your papers to my senior)and he started to cross the road i was staiding with my bike with my helmet still on. after 20 minutes of wait i went to him and said "uncle meri bike ke papers kahaan hai"( where r my documents), he said kon se papers(what paper?) i was stunned i said i just given you on that side of road he looked at my bike and said my senior is checking them. i asked him wat is taking him so long to check a few papers. he said jyada jaldi hai then go without your bike, i said why i should go with out my bike. As i was arguing with him his senior arrived and said wats the matter i told him about the papers, they said your documents are not complete you have to pay 200 as fine (as in rewari they dont give you the chalan slips). i was show me what im lacking they said you dont have pollution, i said i had it with my papers with the expiry date of 13 august 09. he started arguing with me, getting frustrated to all there acts i called my uncle (he is also cop). after talking to my uncle they handed over my documents to me, i showed him the pollution and moved towards my bike.
my point why only bikers are considered to be the best meat to eat? they wasted my half an hour, what if i don't have a refrence of senior police officer? in such a case i would have to pay them just for nothing?sigpic

Never let constables check your documents, they can't read.Once a constable pulled me to the side and asked for the documents,he looked at my insurance and told me its expired(my bike was just a few months old),took me 2-3 minutes to explain to him that i have insurance for another 8-9 months.(Nub cop...
)
One thing i have noticed is that their hateful behavior is like a plague that keeps spreading.I see new recruits(pretty easy to identify) don't irritate people and ask for money and stuff, the maximum they do is note down numbers which is okay if you have broken a rule. They probably have some kind of initiation for the new recruits too to make them corrupt.
The higher ups have already stated that the police are not allowed to pull motorists if they are not at fault and harass them, think its high time to start a public campaign to let people know about this...at least then, the cops too will know that we know and they'll stop harassing people.

You Bangalore guys take back the two interceptors you sent to Tumkur now O_O !!!!
I saw people getting royally screwed by the interceptor(s) which made a flash appearance here. I didn't even know Tumkur was that important to get an interceptor
oh wellz.
The patrolling on the NH4 (Nelmangala->Tumkur toll region) has increased a lot these days. Saw a patrolling car almost everyday on the highway at fixed times. These weren't interceptors but they aren't a good sign either. I got flagged down for using my rather bright HID at night while going to a dhaba. Thankfully had to pay nothing, but the doofus of the cop argued long enough to make my lose my apetite.
I was enjoying the total freedom one gets in Tumkur T_T no fair !

I have a doubt here, want to know if HID and Xenon headlamps are legal.
Another thing I've noticed is that there aren't many Super bikes and modified cars(Not porki mods) nowadays. Is there a ban on putting performance based aftermarket parts on cars and bikes?Because i vaguely remember reading an article about a 'Crackdown on modified vehicles to curb drag racing'.

They are illegal to fit on bikes as it seems
as the tholu was explaining in his rotten English. Not a problem since my low beam is normal halogen and the high beam is HID. In cities I ride with the halogen lamp on, only on highways I pop on the HID (when its really needed >_> not to show off or anything)
Even changing your tyre size needs an approval from the RTO as tyre sizes are fixed for a particular vehicle (if you look at the RC book there's a field for tyre size entry but its never filled). Also add that every vehicle also has a max decibel level fixed for it. Aftermarket parts in general render your car illegal in most parts of the world anyhow. People fit them for performance in the western world while here... they are mostly noobs who don't know what they are doing to their vehicles.
Let's say in India the rules and regulations are seasonal. Whatever they feel like they enforce and then after that it goes thanda. We'd never realise how many rules actually exist and have a reaction like "Yeh bhi niyam kanoon ka ansh hai
?!" Its just dependant on the mood of the copper, that'd be all.

yeah buddy i too saw tat verna lying idle in krp for a long time... i stay in krp...Originally posted by insanebiker View PostBangalore cops do create some basic awareness amongst people.
Did anyone notice a red crashed Verna , in front of Garuda mall, wearing big nameboards that said "MY DRIVER WAS DRUNK" ? That verna didnt have any A,B nor C pillars. It was scrap. I earlier saw the same verna in the KR Puram police station i guess.
I was surprised that the police take these kind of initiatives for passing a message to the public.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

Awareness is good but lying is bad. Let them catch for over speeding, this is a practice followed all over the world. But lying on your speed and charging unwanted fines is bad.Originally posted by manubhat View Postyeah buddy i too saw tat verna lying idle in krp for a long time... i stay in krp...
About insane reasons to catch you, i think this is common too. I have seen police catching in US giving insane reasons. There though you are just given a slip and contest at the court.

Tonight i was riding towards Bannerghatta road. The Udipi Garden(BTM Layout) signal was red. As usual, i was navigating thru the gaps and at one point i followed the bike before me onto the pavement(barely for a metre)
and got down and was waiting for the signal to turn red.
Suddenly a police wala comes and pulls out the keys of both our bikes and asks us to pull over
I parked the bike and we both went to him. He had a copy of some news paper article which read "Ride on the pavement and lose you license". It was laminated. He showed that to us promptly and asked for the licenses.
The other guy was a bit elderly, he said that this was the first time, blah blah. The police guy then drew his attention towards me as i seemed bhakra to him
He asked me for my license, i didnt know what to do for a moment. I immediately remembered that No matter what, i am not supposed to give my license to these fellas. Moreover, there is no rule that the license should be cancelled if caught riding on the pavement.
My mind said "Just show it to him and keep it with u". But i didnt even do that. I told this guy that i will make a phone call and be back. He asked "Phonecall to whom"?
I said "To my friends uncle".
He : Who is he?
Me : He too works for the Traffic police depatment. Let me call him
He : What is his designation?
Me : I don kno all that. I would just call and confirm something about this.
Pat came the reply, "Okay, Give 100 rs and go"

Then i took out my wallet (Thank god, i was planning to go to the ATM just b4 that but didnt), i had only 70 bucks , threw that to him and came back and took the bike.
This is how these morons cheat people just for their weekend collection.
So, guys beware.
P.S : This guy was the same guy from the MICO Layout police station who towed my bike earlier for it was parked just before Shoppers Stop for a minute, 300 rs gone then!
When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

Just to let you guys know, there is an Interceptor Vehicle present enroute K.R Puram from Hebbal on ORR. This about a km after you descend the ramp from Hebbal. I am seeing them from past two days at around 5.45-6PM.
I was driving today and I dont know if they tried stopping me. They signalled, but I dont know whether it was for me or the taxi in front. I just drove on
