I'm calling it harassment because these guys find ways of annoying citizens for no reason.. I mean they need to pull up people if they committ an offence (as is the recent directive), not to check if they have committed an offence..
As you'll already be aware, if one commits a traffic violation (in Bangalore), a notification is mailed to the address that the violating vehicle is registered with, & the person in whose name the vehicle is registered is asked to pay the fine within the due date specified, or else a case will be initiated in the courts.. So why do they need to ask someone to pull over, & get violation history checked!! Out of my understanding..
Not that they would have allowed me to drive away without paying the fine, if violation(s) were found against my car, though i might be well ready to take the case to court..

Yeah! I was thankful that i ended up getting a clean chit.. You never know when they start manufacturing offences

A bunch of my friends (including me) were planning to go to Nandi hills on our bikes one of these weekends to catch the brilliant sunrise view there in the early morning..
Since some of you were mentioning that the airport stretch is a nuisance, perhaps this is something we should keep in mind. Is the speed limit restriction only till the BIAL airport??

Cops is Hyderabad are much worse. They charge even when your helmet does not have a vizor

The speed limit till the airport is 60kmph for 2-wheelers, & 80 kmph for 4-wheelers. The interceptors are stationed only before the airport, & once you cross the flyover that leads to the airport, it should be smooth sailing.. Moreover, I haven't seen the interceptors in action between dusk & dawn..
But Karthik, its very foggy these days, & so i wouldn't advise riding to nandi hills late nights or early mornings.. Moreover, the high fog might prevent you from seeing the sunrise itself..
So would advise you to find out from people who have been there recently..

Whoa!! I hope the Bangalore cops don't come to know of it, as quite a big share of 2-wheeler riders here wear those nonsensical topi type hemlets, which only protect the hair & don't have a visor either..
Or wait, maybe they should atleast start warning such people so that they begin wearing the full face helmets.. & let the purpose of wearing a helmet be served..

^Indeed, as Tibby said, the interceptors are stationed either before or after the airport. They like to sit at the end of the long straights...watch your speed here...they'll hit u with that radar gun much before. If you have a car it would be wise to get a radar detector/jammer. I got hit here a while back (got caught at 96..was doing 120 before that). Also, now on the road connecting yeshwantpur to mekri circle and points beyond, there will be an interceptor halfway between the sadishivangar police station and mekri circle. I got caught here the other day, even in heavy traffic, for speeding. had to cough up 300 . These guys are real jackasses, no arguing with em, so just pay and get out of there or just watch your speed. The limit is 40 i believe which really is way too low .

apparently i have a violation from last year saying that i jumped a signal on Oct 3 at 945 am. I dont even remember going anywhere on oct 3 at 945 am cause i would be in college at that time. Interesting, i have to pay a 100 bucks. My bike is registered at my old address, i never got a notice from my old owner or anything. Are they really gonna come after me for a measly 100 rs, or should i pay?

I was thinking of leaving Bangalore by 5.15 - 5.30am and reaching there by 6.30 - 7am. I agree it would be terribly foggy but the view from the top when the sun does come out (which is around 7am nowadays) is a blanket of clouds surrounding you from everywhere. From a photography aspect, that's what we were interested in Hence the reason to travel in peak winter. I have gone there in March and there was no white blanket when the sunrise happened

Thanks a lot for the information on the interceptor location. I will make sure i stay within the speed limits And No, going at nights is out of question. I am a teetotaler, not one of those party revellers who likes to get drunk on the hills

Perhaps if someone has caught this "Cloud-blanket with sun" view there earlier, they could elaborate on when is the best time to go to catch that view.

I think it'll be a problem only if your offences keep piling up. I doubt they're going to chase you for just that 1 offence. They probably have an upper limit, beyond which they might take action against offenders..

its a unit that sits in your car and does exactly what it its namesake means. It detects radar units nearby that the cops will be using to track your speed and warns you ahead of time. It will sound a series of beeps, in increasing frequency to show you how close or how far the radar unit is. If u wanna speed, its prolly prudent that you have one. A jammer takes it even further, for example..if you are passing by that interceptor and your jammer is on, it will send back false signals to their radar unit or jam the thing entirely. This thing is highly illegal in many countries so be careful.

I think if its 60 kmph for bikes they should put it up boards as well, its stupid, they cant assume that everyone will be aware of it. The article on cops not being allowed to stop non violating motorists should be enforced by each and everyone of us, we need to make cops aware that we are aware of our rights

The place near Kengeri on Mysore rd., where there is an interceptor always, has a speed limits board on the divider. So, no arguing with them!!

Well the traffic police website says that its not possible to put up boards saying 60kmph is the limit in all the roads of bangy(which is approx 4500kms in length)..so we cant argue using this as a excuse with the cops.. and moreover its 50kmph in city corporation limits.. (check out the website's faq )

if one doesnt know all the traffic rules then one shouldnt be riding in the first place. And if one is fined for breaking a rule which one didnt know existed then one should crib.

@ Davies: true these cops should not stop a vehicle that hasnt violated any norms, but do u think they stop u for reason that is listed in the LAW book?????????

well, my funda is very simple, look the cops from a far of distance, if he has got a big belly, stay away, he is the kinda cop who feeds on "maamul" and for sure there hinglish will be awesome, so no bargaining

go for the cops with flat tummy, they are the educated kinda guys and talking abt your rights to them has not MUCH of harm

so better watch out...
