What should I say? I have been through such an incident while returning home from the hospital an hr ago and I read this now.
I was riding along with my mother as a pillion in a bylane near my house at around 20km/hr and 2 guys on an activa speed towards me from the opposite side at about 60km/hr on the same track I started honking and moving towards the left but that ahole still continues to speed on the same track and eventually I had to come to a stand still. Even then I tried to lean my body towards left and remove my hand from the handle bar but still the activas handle managed to touch pass my jacket.
What would have happend if the handle of the activa hit me at the elbow ? I wouldnt have been typing this and my mother would have been hurt too . Who would have been responsible for this??

These Incidents are pretty common for us, More over people take advantage if there is a lady on the other side never mind if they are on wrong way, speeding, rash, careless ... what ever
If the lady is young then gone case we can see all foolish crowd gathering in no time to argue with us.

What can we do ???- (Even though there is no mistake on us)
Just try to escape from the scene ??
        Apologize ??

I guess when there is whole crowd supporting the opponent, its hard to argue or fight

Lolz its an easy calculation in India...

The One who makes noise first is right....
If the crash involves a boy and a girl, then the boy is at mistake
If the crash involves a boy and a elder (of any sex) , then the boy is at mistake
If the crash involves a boy and a boy, then GOD KNOW WHY THE GOVERNMENT GIVES LICENSES TO BOTH THE GOOONDAS!

If the accident involves only a boy all by himself, SEE I TOLD YOU THESE GOONDAS TRYING STUNTS ON ROADS!

If the accident involves only a girl all by himself, Poor thing, she couldnt control the vehicle!

The Jazzier looking bike\rider is the one to blame!

Its a crazy but simple to understand logic.... so!

And somebody said something about girls driving skills, I have quite a few experiences!
I was riding all well kitted to my college a good 3 years ago, when a Santro came and halted near me at a signal... the driver is a nice looking cute girl! ... and a quick glance later I know its time to fire up the bike as the signal would go green in about 15 seconds... and heck I cant lift my left leg to drop the gear....!
Courtesy: the girls car tyre were ON my freaking leg!!! And I look at her in disgust and she gives a smile.... and I point at my legs and she goes! Oh so sorry! and she has the balls (err nevermind) to say Sorry and stare at it!!!! I was like! M-O-V-E the damn thing off my toes!!!!!!

I was pretty lucky to have been wearing those army boots (worth Rs 150 ) with steeltoes!!!!

Anyways just wanted to know how many of 'us' have popped the middle finger every time someone screws up as in the high beam glare, or a mad honking session, signal jumping case, crazy maneuvers et all!

and how many of 'us' bothered to give a thumbs up for something done sanely? like allowing you to pass ahead, give a valid signal in case of a potential hazard etc etc

heck, how many of us have bothered to help or guide fellow riders\drivers about basic safety checks, or even at times of a crash....

Ofcourse its much more easier to crib and add to that insanity... and proudly proclaim that this is India... Yes this is India, and its is like that.... and sadly even we are not helping it much!

So maybe next time, be good, spot the better ones and show some respect, coz what goes around, comes around!

It was 2003, i was on my '86 Kinetic Honda (My Dad's actually).. Having had a great start from the previous signal from pole position.. and the next 1 more than a kilometer away.. i was going merrily at around 75kmph in the fast lane, in the middle of the afternoon, far ahead of any traffic. All of a sudden, 8-10 meters away.. a 30-odd yr-old woman decided to jump off the divider and right into my line.

Kinetic hondas, not being very brake-able/maneuverable (at least mine) at such speeds, even after hard-squeezing the brakes, all i could do was RAM into the woman. As i was riding wearing a helmet and a jacket, and was catapulted off the vehicle after the accident, luckily, even my jacket didn't become dirty.(read escaped unhurt) But that idiot woman broke her arm (i think so) and my ride was damaged so badly. that i couldnt even get permission to ride for the next 1 month (i was 17, just 1 yr into my gearless license).

As it unfolded.. it turned out that the fault was mine as i was riding "too fast" at 75kmph on a dream tarmac 6 lane highway's fast lane, as was a "shining maaring" reckless teenager (who happened to be wearing a jacket and hemet) and not the poor woman who broke her arm because she did not look around on the road before deciding to jump off the divider right in the line of oncoming traffic.

My life that day was saved probably because i was around 5-6 seconds ahead of any other traffic (which included city buses and other cars) so i had the time to tidy up myself and the KiHo before any of the oncoming traffic could reach me. (Imagine what if i would have been with the pack.)

The only thing i learned from this incident was that the fast lane is not for driving / riding fast. the middle lane is. At least from there, you can keep an eye on all the idiots jumping on the road without looking around as if they had seen a ghost. And this is why.. I don't understand why I should follow lane rules and how it will help reduce accidents when all the pavements / footpaths / dividers are haunted.

The above mentioned incident at Trimbak Road Nasik taught me enough to help me complete 4.5 years of riding around 40k km on my Caliber inside Pune city from 2004-2008 accident free *Touch wood* (considering you know what pune traffic is like). I will always remember that lady.. as she gave me a lesson which would be helpful for the rest of my life.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

I would like to share some of my exp. I was going to office on old air port rd,Bangalore arnd 10.30 am. Normally its a open strech and trafic is fast moving as its army area. So not much ppl cross over. Near cmnd hospital a lady was in between the road..I blew horns..thr ws a car jst behind and 1-2 bike on my left too. So neither I cld slow or take left...still I gt cautious and ws thinking to a slowly leaving the accelarator, so tht other vehicle will slow without much prb...everything ws going fine till she started moving back and forth.....little more closer I realised she is watchin me straight...damn is she checking my bike? Yes !!! In the middle of the road..its too late, I jst jumped on all the brakes, thn shift down and another 1....split of second she jsut moved from and I cut through behind her....the sudden speed down frm 75-80 odd to 35+ for an armature ride was nt so easy...immediately i pooled over road side....had a 1-2 min brk...agn started...I jst salute R15...I really liked the way it showed its stability...
Anyway tht ws the scariest way to check out a new bike

If u hv noticed in blore...thr r some uncles riding mopeds or some old 100cc motor cycles....they were ths Rs 100 helmets which is jst for namesake helmets...they r jst old hooligans on the road....thr was big trafic jam..so all were waiting. This champ came and he ws slowly touching my back mud guard as if he is trying push me out...and he carried on aftr i told him politely not to do so...damn !!! i lost my all coolness... I said "uncle, take off kar na hai...udke jaoge? Dont get so much excited at ths age, heart fail ho gaya to upar chale jaoge".. All ppl were laughing on him and he backed off....it ws embrassing for him...I dont wanted to do so...bt sometime u cant b gentle all ths things although thy r elder to u...

All these things are common i guess. The BMTC buses here rarely stays in the left lane even if there's less traffic,Autos come out of nowhere, people stroll along lazily while crossing the road even on seeing oncoming traffic. And believe it or not, some people cross roads carrying hay even on expressways(NICE to be presice).God save INDIA...And finally whose fault is it?...OURS...

Couldn't agree more with this part here.

This logic is the basis of most decisions made by a mob near an accident scene. One of the few times I have heard sanity prevail is when avin (xbhp id: avinrichards) and co were not harmed by a mob some time back when he hit a drunkard on the road. A man was there to witness the event and insist that it was not the young man's fault. Otherwise, I think it would have been the same old scenario where the rider/driver of a machine is thrashed by a mob without any rhyme or reason.

A lot of common sense and street-smarts is required if you are to survive the 'urban jungle'. And sometimes, even that can't help you.

Hey Guys , I've got a confession here ... I actually caused an accident ... i was riding on brigade road and behind me was this guy on a dio , fully modded without a lid and a screwed up exhaust , I think he removed his silencer or something and weaving in an out of traffic ... Once i approach St patricks school , i see a couple of kids crossing the road , so i slow down and i can see the guy on dio weaving , so i think he might hit the kids . so i cut into his lane and brake , he avoided me and hit the sidewalk , didn't fall or anything ... a couple of elder people got hold of him and blasted him , while i just slipped away quietly ...
People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

Here in India, one of the major problem is the illegal issuing of driving licenses through bribery. Even the people who get their license 100% legally, are not given the required training. As a result, 99% License holders (Leave away the underaged drivers), do not have proper driving sense. This is the main cause of such kind of accidents.

The case in most of the foreign countries is not so. For example US. There are strict rules which are followed during the driving tests. Even if the smallest of the mistakes occur, then you are thrown out to learn for another few months.

But the procedure here: Guy, on his 18th birthday goes to dad and asks for 1500 rupees, goes to an agent, throws those bucks, gets a learner's license, after 1 month gets a 2 cum 4 wheeler license by post.

As a result, most of the indian people think driving is just about learning to handle the 'clutch and gears' of the vehicle. To avoid this, strict rules for issuing the driving licenses must be implemented.

Ofcourse there are many more issues, but according to me, this one is the most important and needed one.
