10 pages of cribbing and it was time I intervened!

There are lots of "Old" ladies over "35" like the way described by our dear friend Ashes! And there are lots of men too. And there are lots of 20 something idiots in "jazzy" fast bikes who ride on the wrong side too and who systematically honk like that button was his insurance policy and nearly mow down children getting down from a school bus while riding on the wrong side of the road. I encounter this each and every day of the week when I go to get my son from the bus stop.

But we live with it. We have to. I crib. From time to time. But it is no use. We have no choice. There is no proper driving schools in this country. There are NO bike riding schools at all! I am pretty certain if I ask even 3 questions on road rules of the Motor Vehicles Bureau to "new" bike license holders, they will not be able to answer those 3 simple questions. Let us get our own act right. Know all your rules. Follow them. And then no matter what the age of the person doing a wrong act, you cannot be wrong!

Gosh! And we are clamouring for 180Bhp vehicles!

I don't bother about anything and everything else on the road .
The above examples are from my personal experiences. The problem with ladies are that they don't have reflexes fast enough to save them in case they have witnessed a coming possible emergency.
Wow! That is some gender bias post. In a patriarchal society of ours where we confine our ladies inside homes for the most part of their lives, you expect them to develop reflexes?

I have seen my mother ride and drive for nearly 40 years!!! Did not see too many reflex problems with her. In fact she had better reflexes than my father. Despite having been rammed in by a truck coming on the wrong side. Truck guy backed out and ran away. My mother somehow escaped major injuries though the car was quite smashed.

I hope you will ride better when you will be 35+. However I am pretty certain that even you have ridden on the wrong side of the road. I am also pretty certain that you cut through traffic making life difficult for others on the road and you definitely do not stop for children waiting to cross the road. I am not saying that what happened to you was right. It was terribly wrong. I am also saying that it might happen again. And it might be somebody even older, wherein you might find it even more difficult to get out of the situation or somebody younger wherein you will probably get into a scuffle. Know the rules, follow them, know your rights, demand them! Keep your cool and stay focussed.

I totally agree with u on this respect. One can always copy another person's signature. The system is not fool-proof.Its just considered a difficult thing to do.
I also agree with u on the point that many shopkeepers have a tendency of not checking the signature. Why would they want to? Its bad for their business I guess.Absence of proper punitive measures or delay in their application encourages them to do so.
I also like to carry an atm card with me all da time. The problem was I had to
draw a sum of 45000 rupees and my atm card has a limit of 15000 per day, and I didn't like the idea of carrying that amount of hard cash with me.
Its just the situations that led from one thing to another.Too bad for me.

Yes, you have the right. I can understand your frustration. Though it is tough riding/driving in countries like ours, I hope this does not happen to you or to any of us.

okay, BTW, we are speaking about people coming in the way of vehicles and not giving us way...

In most other countries, you are bound to stop (however) if there is a person on the road. The rule is "Give way" and to the life first. So much so that if there is one person's feet on the road by any chance at a place even without any crossing or signal, the motorists are bound to stop. I have witnessed a handful of such screeching halts. Even I caused one!

Have you guys noticed the Euro design cars? High bumper design - no sharp edges and lot more stuff there - this is designed as per guidelines to save pedestrians' life to a good extent even if a car hits them and that it should not dismember their legs...

Give a thought in that direction too...

A pedestrian can always be wrong but a motorist must always be alert.

u r right about pedestrians but what about people who r driving on the wrong side approaching towards u!!

there is bound to be a lot of confusion because both riding at certain speeds therefore less reaction time as compared to pedestrians who r on foot.

I know that this is a genuine menace! Happens at random on highways too... you cruising at 150kmph and suddenly there is this tractor in the opposite direction flashing at you as if you are wrong and you have to give way. You have to live with it, if you survive that is!

If we follow what I said earlier -
"A pedestrian can always be wrong but a motorist must always be alert." this problem shouldn't arise.

Unfortunately our driving learning system doesn't enforce a single bit of safe riding habits on us. All they check is whether we can drive the motor or not.

Well, lets just say I am young enough to be moving quick on road and old enough to realize not to be a pain in the wrong place for fellow motorists by moving at 30kmph in the middle of the road.

Honestly, we will never have orderly traffic. Unless you have patience on par with a yogi, riding/driving is impossible. We feel so obliged to be politically correct, oh gender has no effect and all that equality, empowerment talk.

This is a country were 6-8-xxx lane roads are bulit and bullock carts are allowed to ply.

This is a country were bicycles are allowed to move on the wrongside on the flyover.

This is a country were autos, buses and just about every other street urchin enjoys the status of VIP among the police.

Empowerment, equality, inclusive society, etc etc. It should be reflected on our roads also right? So, if you have a R1 shut up and tail gate a BMTC bus or better still a bicycle on Hebbal flyover Coz the bicyclist is also a human and has as much right to use the road
