  • Rahul,

Regarding the stress factor, Karizma has long stroke engine and is detuned (the original engine in international market makes 22 odd bhp) and that is why it is relaxed. You may feel it is stressed, but it is not actually.

I agree that looks are subjective, but you cannot just say 'looks weird'. You could have just said an analog speed could have been better'.

Regarding suspension, I understood what you have said. But, ZMR is made as a comfortable tourer. There may be very few who likes a hard suspension that allows the jolts to pass to the spine. I definitely do not like it. You are still young, you will change your views when you become an 'uncle'. And, you can set the ZMR's suspension to hard setting and it is adjustable.

Many P220 riders have rode a Karizma and they never said it is 'totally powerless'. I used those words like 'totally powerless' when I rode my uncle's splendor after riding a Karizma. There have been numerous tests in mags where they certified Karizma is a second slower than P220 in 0-100. You cannot categegorize that a P220 is powerful and ZMR is totally powerless. If you like the P220 so much, I agree, but be sane and see the reality before saying 'totally powerless'.

Regaridng twin spark technology, do you know why TVS had won the case against Bajaj? Twin Spark technology has been in use worldwide since very long time. Nobody patented it and somehow Bajaj got Patent in India (do not know how)

If you again say PGM-FI is a marketing gimmick, I am speechless.

BTW, where did you get the test ride for 140 km??

I am talking about the FI Version here.. the 220 Dtsi is rock solid on highways ( plain Straight highways..) at speeds excess of 100kph..Even they said after riding ZMR, small bumps n pits on the highways feel like giving them a real shiver down their spine on the 220 compared to the ZMR..
Gautam, the P220 is a good handler at high speeds. On less windy day both ZMR and P220 are good handlers. If there are cross winds, ZMR is more prone to crosswinds than a P220 because of full fairing. As you said, regarding comfort ZMR rides better because of soft suspension.

errr... How about 'tourish' instead of 'commuterish'.

Sports handle bars are designed very low. So strictly speaking, no small capacity Indian bikes have 'sports design' handle bars in the same manner. They maybe sporty. But for practical purpose, manufacturers have to raise them though maintaining its sporty looks into a level thats more commuter friendly (e.g p200), so lets say 'streetish' here instead of 'commuterish'.
      So I would say ..
P200 handle bars are streetish that looks sporty and
ZMR handle bars are tourish that looks sporty and
ZMA handle bars are tourish that looks commuterish .

          Impressions:
The following is a small unbiased ride report from a hard revver who is more of a performance enthusiast (Me).
          1. Did not like the speedo console. Its very weird.

            > Bound to be, you are a Pulsar owner and the first alien to say so! REst of the world loves it
          2. The clip ons were looking weird & were pretty high like a commuter bike & was pretty comfortable. I somehow felt HH dint do justice by putting a full fairing on a bike with commuterish seating position. (Personal Opinion) But still anyday i prefer low clip-ons like R15 or P220.

            >Acha! Checked the quality of the clipons? Its the best in the market! And they are placed perfectly for that cruise and sport riding positions. Dont know which position you were glued to in the TD!!
          3. The bike is heavier than P220 & the weight can be felt.

            >It is a little! But doesnt matter keeps it more planted on the road.
          4. Suspension is pretty soft. I prefer hard suspension & hate bouncing bikes.

            >It wasnt adjusted and you didnt take the pain to adjust it either! But Karizmas are known for its soft front shockups..But doesnt matter. The GRS do their duty really well.
          5. The bike was pretty smooth & vibe free till 6k rpm. The engine sound was weird & i dint like it. I was asked not to hit the rev-limiter.

            >Engine was weird: Have you EVER ridden a Karizma before?? Looks like no!
          6. Being used to the P220 FI's raw power the ZMR felt totally powerless to me. It also isnt a quick revver like R15 & P220 FI.

            >All the 3 are totally different bikes with different engines. And it also depends on what you want from them..
          7. At speeds of about 80-90 kmph the power curve was linear & bike was pulling clean till 110 after which stress could be felt.

            >I second it but once the engines opened up its a beauty!
          8. At speeds of 115-120 on the speedo the bike wasnt pulling eagerly with a single rider & was feeling stressed.

            >hmm..
          9. It has better roll on times than ZMA. Felt a bit better overall than ZMA to me.

            >hmm..
          10. The real time mileage thing went nuts i guess. Was showing crazy readings over an extremely WIDE range. Showed me readings from 2 to 40.

            >yes even we didnt like it. Prefer a gear indicator instead of it. But nonetheless..
          11. Tried a few knee downs & YES the chassis flexes & is scary at complete knee downs at over 100 kmph. P220 DTSi feels better probably due to better tyres.

            >Maybe yes! But with the Michelins the ZMR becomes a different bike altogether.
          12. Front brake is good (similar to P220) but not as sharp as R15. Rear disc sucks. P220 FI's rear disc is better.

            >Remember the good ol P220 fi rear disc issues! I think the zmrs is better off than being marooned and plagued with issues. It does its duty very well.
          13. Stoppies on it were easy but wheelies were difficult probably due to the bulky fairing.
          14. The bike looked really fragile. One drop & the fairing would go for a toss. Would suggest ZMR owners to invest in frame sliders/crash bobbins if HH provides them.

            >I agree..
          15. Overall the bike was better than what i expected. It feels & runs better than zma. Would be a nice upgrade for HH/ZMA fans. It can cruise comfortably till 100 kmph for miles beyond which it would be too stressed. But is it worth the extra grands? Upto u people to decide. I dont think it is.

PS- PGM-FI is programmed FI & not programmable FI. There is nothing significant in that. Every FI is programmed. Its just a cool sounding name & a marketing gimmick.

Sorry... Its not the nightbreaker... I typed it wrong.. The Nightbreaker is the Bulb which they listed to me at Rs.800... This one is the OSRAM Cool Blue..
          OSRAM|Consumer|Automotive Lighting|Products|Headlights|index

The Nightbreaker's DIM mode is not that bright and is yellowish.. I Wanted pure white light.. So went for Cool Blue.. Price Rs.450.. Thats why i got it for 380.. Not the 900 MRP Nightbreaker... Sorry...

They lit me both bulbs before buying.. I felt The nightbreakers BRIGHT mode was a more bright than the cool blue...
I googled through the net to find which among the whitelights are better..
And i found OSRAM coolblue is better than Philips Blue Vision which is better than Philips Vision Plus (Rs.550)..
So guess it wont be a bad purchase...
I just gave the bike for 1st service and gave the bulb to them for fitting..
The showroom guy said the the stock light will give more lighting than white light... hope he said that just because he is unaware of these bulbs....
Hoping it gives me better lighting...
I'll let you know how it is tonight..

          Hahaha.... +200 for that...
God.. Those comments were insane and well replied...

In our gang, there are 4 p220 owners... and 3 of them are 220 DTSi owners which has 2 more xtra horses than FI and handles much better too.. and all of them purely agreed that its only on Power front that the 220 can beat the ZMR.. and the ZMR scores everywhere else... ( im not sayin this to start off a heated debate or anythin... just tellin what we discussed ).. The handling and ride comfy of the 220 at High speeds, esp bumpy corners, are definitely not as good as ZMR or ZMA... R15 is an entirely different proposition though.!!
and ya, the rear disc aint that awesome as i thought it would be..!! Agreed on that too..!!

and a +500 for " You sounded like you are riding a Busa and took a test ride of Ninja 250. " ...
Haha.. it could not have been answered better..!!
          Oh yeah!

Thanks bro ... by god's grace I got it before time. We can plan, but I can't confirm right now I would be able to join you on the date planned. I keep on travelling ( coz of my job profile ), and hence can't commit right now. If I am here in pune, i would surely join you and would love to meet you all. I also have to make myself available to buy good riding gear before I start consuming fuel in ZMR ( except the helmet ).

We will be doing it soon as now we got 3 colors to boot and in vicinity..Mohsin's white, Manan's yellow and your black. Only if someone got blue or red it would be really kickass. Will be keeping it on a weekend. We have long been planning this, so shall make it sooner.

Now that you have the bike, well, do up the tyre change whenever you get time and ofcourse get a snazzy helmet and rest of the riding gear.

              Ride safe!
