  • Any idea as to how to keep the black plastic portions of the bike like rear mudguard, side panels etc shining? Also i have noticed whitening(looks like a very thin layer of chalk) on these black plastic parts on some of my bikes.

Suggestions on how to maintain the plastic parts would be really helpful.

    Thanks

For the plastic parts, you can use dashboard polish. I used one from Waxpol, & it was decent. Is easily available in any auto spare parts shop.

Regarding the whitening, I remember discussing it the other day. Not sure how to get rid of that.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

      • use the dashboard polish with the help of the sponge type material....so it will not soak the polish and will give good result...personally i use waxpol....it works good
u can apply it on all the plastic, rubber parts...

          • I wash my bike myself.
I once gave it to pressure wash only to find a fused flasher.

I wash her with utmost care with one round of water splashing, then shampoo & then again water splashing.
I have sourced a waxpol too, which brings good shine on plastic parts.

              Thanks for the compliment.

You can go for any good brand for the dashboard polish, & need not necessarily pick Waxpol. But whatever you pick, pick a sachet/ small bottle first. Buy the bigger pack if you are happy. The polish lasts for a week easily, unless you ride/park the bike in extreme sun/dust.

btw, the dashboard polish should be applied only to the black surfaces (non-painted). This includes the plastics around the instrument cluster, side black fairing (for the black R15s & older red one), the plastic with deltabox written, & the rear mudguard.

For the painted surfaces, you get a different kind of polish.

                  No man.
I use it only for coloured plastic part.
Once I used them on black parts which you mentioned & result was horrible.
As tibby said, there must some other way to shine them.

None! I used the dashboard polish a year back, thats it.
Whatever polishing my bike goes through is at the regular service at the SVCs (every 70 days).

I only wash the bike to keep it clean.

Planning to pick up turtle wax for the painted surfaces sometime soon. Its a big dabba, so will serve the car too.

If this is the same kind of polish that is used to shine the car dashboards by the service center folks then I must tell you that over time the quality of the plastic will deteriorate (the surface becomes hard, color fades over time and the plastic surface will look old and will look like it's going to crack)... Plus its a superb dust magnet as well.

Krud Kutter works best. I use Turtle Wax to polish my ninja and any polish on the black plastic parts leaves a white residue. A small quantity of this water based solvent works wonders. Available on eBay.

                      • I wash my bike every weekend with Amway Car Wash, then with water I don't use jet stream to clean it though. After that I polish it with Amway Silicon Glaze. For fibre and tyres I use Super Shine polish which costs only 40 Rs.!! Try it it's awesome. This whole process takes 2 hours. But I feel satisfied with the results when people stare at the bike and tells me that your bike looks brand new

                        • I get my bike washed everyday, just with a bucket of water and getting the extra dirt and grime cleaned... I have stopped giving it pressure wash now as i have realised that a lot of lubrication near the clutch lever, clutch cable wears off.. if done every week.. i would give it a pressure wash when the service is near so that the service guys can then get the necessary lubrication done.

                          • Sometime I wash it myself whenever I feel its dirty.
And sometimes I get it washed in just Rs.30 with perfection in a nearby small showroom of Bajaj. They even clean engine and tyres with some kerosene or diesel to make it look like new.
