After months of research and analysis, i zeroed in on CBZ Xtreme 2011 (Double Disc). This is my first bike and I am pretty excited about it.

First of all congrats on ur ride, welcome to the family.

I've ridden bikes of my friends to learn the basics but still I am not very proficient in riding bikes. Now that I've my very own CBZ, I am being extra cautious not to hurt her during her starting run-in period

No-One is proficient in biking.U learn on each nd every day of biking, just remember wat u learn once.PRACTICE is wat matters

I read several posts around xBHP and concluded that for a perfect run-in I shouldn't rev it too hard, not take it >=5k rpm and also not cross 40-45kmph.

Eaxctly, try to be within that range most of the times.

Got my bike's delivery on 29th September, 2011. Damn excited and took my friend with me who knew bikes well for delivery. From the day one, I've tried following everything about run-ins but yesterday, one of my close friend asked me to lend him my bike. He was really mean with the bike and revved it so hard, I guess he did touch 6-7k at a point. Also, he touched a speed of 60kmph.

Once or twice is not a big problem (if done smoothly). u are nt supposed to cross 60 Kmph before ur first 500 Km's or so, and above 80 before 1000Kms. U can ocassionaly take it to 55-60 once in a while but smoothly (aisa nahi k 2nd gear mein hi 55 le gaye ). Try to shift around 3000-4000 RPM. It would take some time but again u need PRACTICE.

I'm worried about the bike now, will this stint affect its mileage. Also considering my lack of skills, I unintentionally wud've done some harm as well like gear-shifting delays (say, I've a speed of 13-14kmph and still on first gear or gear 3 when speed is around 14kmph, the latter makes my CBZ make this weird "thad thad" sound and I lower gears then).

Learn to shift the gear according to speed and gear. Say if u feel k u r slowing down from 35 to 15 u need to downshift the gears from 4th to 3rd well before ur engine stops or make that thud thud sound.
just be accustomed to the RPM thing once u know that RPM is falling and engine is making that THUD THUD sound its tym to downshift. PRACTICE ....

I am newbie in riding bikes but from the day this bike entered my life, I've found myself emotionally attached with it. Can someone help me on how should I get past through this run-in period safely without hurting my engine's efficiency considering my beginner riding skills.

Dont worry we are all part of a family,we r ready for ur help if required.Keep loving ur ride.

Also what extra precautions should I take?

So far I've ridden 200kms. Not sure about oil changes as I am totally new to this biking world and waiting for the first service at 500km. The rear disc brakes felt like normal drum brakes in the beginning but I'm feeling their effect a little now. Also, the gear changing has become a little hard now.

Go for the first oil change TODAY.Coz in the initial period engine faces internal friction a lot and requires more frequent oil change to settle down. U can very well use Gulf/Shell/Castrol/Motul 10W30 / 20W40 4T engine oil. get it done outside on a good mechanic(costing around 240-280 rs). 2nd oil change at 500 @ Service centre itself. 3rd @ 750-800 Km then 4th @ 1300-1400 and 5th @ 2nd free service.

    Added few snaps
    Overall :
    1)Max speed <60 kmph
    2)max RPM : 5000
3)Avoid sudden acceleration (doesnt require practice, matter of habbit )
4)Smooth throttle and gear shifts at correct RPM (3000-4000) Mileage suitable . Try this in morning with less traffic and empty roads.
    5)Check tyre pressure (29 Front, 31/32 Rear)
6)Avoid heavy pillion (Doesnt apply for Gf's )
    7)Dont let anybody feel/know k u r newbie,they can use it against u.
    8)Oil change at regular intervals
9)keep loving her and avoid sudden braking on ur ride.

Ride safe and dnt forget to wear helmet if not more

    Regards

    • Vibration problem!!!

Hi guys, i have the CBZ Xtreme 2011 model and recently did 1st service at 717 on the odo. Before this, i never crossed 45kph. I informed them regarding the footpeg vibration and they have rectified it. Now, whenever i cross 45kph, i feel heavy vibrations on handlebar. Will this settle down on itself after a few kms or do i need to visit the service centre once again. Thanks in advance...

Vibrations ,Over heating engine are common for a new engine,So I think its completely normal, wait for next service, your problems will be solved by 2nd or 3rd service.

              • Hey friends, got some problem with net connection and back today.
Don't kill me, because after 370 on odo, i've not yet changed oil in my bikes crank case. I've bought one oem bottle before a week but haven't yet got time to change it. Cone set vibrations are now more pronounced and wen i took it to svc, they said it is loosened so that it will get set by the first service. I strictly recommend my friends in here to use only 10w 30 oil. Not because of warranty issues, but i heard that those oils remain thin as even at higher temperatures. An oil with 50 as VI (as in 20w 50) will be thicker at higher temperatures and will stick to the wall more when the engine needs more rotations. Lower the VI means thinner the oil at high temperatures. And moreover, Honda or Hero Honda engineers are no way similar to our knowledge and are more above our knowledge. So they won't advice something harmful to the bike, IMO.
My bike has some vibrations on that tail piece and the plastic piece under split grab rails with hh logo. its noisy almost all the times. Any one here have the same issue? Any way, will be changing the oil soon, even if i believe there is nothing good or bad with changing oil little earlier. I think it will take the engine to get worn out evenly if oil is changed more frequently.

yes there is no kick option available. its always benificial to have kick alongwith self but wat can we do now .
overall its a good bike,i'm personally getting 50-52 kmpl. Few other xBhpians are getting ~60kmpl as well. Mileage is not an issue. If u like this bike, go for it. And if u do opt for this one, make sure its Double disc version

i think its good to stick on OEM oil upto 1st service, after that u can very well go for 10W40.Havent came across any issue as urs. i did my oil changes at 250,500,900,1700,2300 Kms. and check for ur chain lubrication @ 1K intervals. HH bikes need a lesser maintenance as compared to any other bike. so these minor checks will ensure a smoother ride for long...

Whether single disc would not suffice for just a 150 cc bike

If you maintain it properly,It wont create any problem. If you feel that the battery is low,get it recharged and the problem is solved ad you dont have to worry about it later.

+1^^^ Adding disk later will cost you nearly 10k to 15k and wont be that great as company's offer. Also riding with rear disk dont need any extra skills,Riding it for 2 or 3 days will teach him to adjust with disc.
