Re: Yamaha Gladiator(All)
Hi Everyone,
I have a Yamaha Gladiator SS125, 2012 model. Done 24K with it and I have been facing issues with bike while riding. I am having wobbling issues when am crossing 50-60 KPH solo, 40-50KPH with a pillion. Also, while getting down from the bridge, the bike handle shakes a lot. I had my rear tyre replace with Zapper Q (100/90 - 18) after my rear met with lot of punctures. I have faced one major accident and luckily ended up with scratches and bandages for myself and change of body parts for the bike like engine cowl and rear tail light lens indicators, rear body parts. I am servicing the bike at the Yamaha authorized service centers every 6 months. I have mentioned this wobbling issues for past 3 services before April, 2015 but none gave a prompt reply but charged between 1900 to 2200 Rupees. Recently, I have serviced it on April, 2015 at Bikerz Yamaha, Chromepet, Chennai and asked them the reason for wobbling. The service person explained me clearly that 2 of my rims (alloys) are bent and that's why am having issues while riding and suggested me to take a bend correction in the bike market area near Pudupet in Chennai or replace the alloys itself from Yamaha which will take up to 5K.
After this service, I started noticing other SS125 bikes, most of the bikes which I have seen have bent rear alloys. Is it because the alloy quality or the roads?
I have noticed Hero Passion rims too and for older bikes also the rides are hassle free, ridden my uncle's splendor and friend's passion xpro which are closer to 2 year old and more.
Please suggest on what the problems will be? I need to have hassle free ride. My bike is doing good and haven't let me down till now and love it. Still the engines is smooth and delivers 50+ in general conditions. But, am struggling for more than 6 months because of this wobbling issues and my hands are paining whenever I ride it for some distance.
1) Can I change my front and rear alloys with the ones of Passion xPro? Will that be a good idea? If not, which spares will suit it better incase of bad alloy quality.
2) Can I sell my bike (1st bike, so hard to ask this) as it is nearing 25K mark.
3) Any other ideas or rootcause, fix for the issue are welcome.
Waiting for replies to make a decision.

Check the alloys really bent- u can check by rotating your wheel simply & also check for tyre has worn or not - u can check the same by confirming the wear line (close to rim seating) on the tyres - if it is uniform u can leave it tyre has no problem...
If alloys really bent, there are wheel alloy bend correcting workshops and get correct... or else, simply go to the wheel bend correcting shops & they will let you know whether it is a fault by tyre or alloy...
may be the fork oil could also be the reason handle bar shaking, check them too.....

Thanks nsreepathy@
Thanks for the response. I presume this is because of the bent forks than the bent alloys. I checked swinging the wheels and there are minimal bends. But, when I try to climb the bike in a steep (like while parking the bike by climbing a steep) there is a sound from the front which indicates the fork bend I believe.
is it advisable to change to Hero Passion xPro's alloys incase of alloy change? will it be a direct fit just because of the tyre size matches?
Please advise.

SS125 is not supposed to vibe. There must be something wrong. Check the following:Originally posted by Yatharth View PostHey Guys,
I have a 2012 SS125, done 40,000Kms and about 5000 Kms off-road with pillion. I have been facing vibration issues above 70 KmpH. Is it normal or I can fix it anyways?
1. Check the spark plug(if necessary, change it - preferably with Bosch).
2. Check the air-fuel ratio.
3. Did you change the engine oil? If not, change with Yamalube.
4. Check the tappet and wheel alignment.
Hope this helps.Last edited by krishna77; 06-23-2015, 08:24 PM.A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

1. Spark Plug Looks just fine.. But will change it as it as it has never been changed in past.
2. How to check Air fuel ration?
3. Oil Change is done periodically @ Yamaha Service Centre only.
4. I am not sure what tappet is? Wheel Alignment issue is there. The front rim has a minor bend.

Tappet is located between the engine and the valve cover. Check this thread out:
Tappet Adjustment |Life On 2-Wheels
As far as air fuel ratio is concerned, please ensure that it is not set too lean to increase fuel economy. Give every bike the amount of fuel it deserves. Having a very lean afr would mean you are keeping your machine thirsty and at the same time expecting optimal performance. This thread can be helpful:

Re: Yamaha Gladiator(All)
krishna77 : I cant seem to find a good Yamaha mechanic in my area. Service Centre guys are not agreeing that bike is really vibrating as they really cant feel the vibration @ 60 Kmph and there are not roads to push it beyond that... Adjusting tappet will take a lot of their time so they are not willing to go that way. Air to fuel ratio seems to be right as my bike doesn't really deliver anything above 50 Kmpl in city and 45 kmpl on highways. Spark plug seems ok to service centre guys but I am still going to change it from a Bosch as you suggested this weekend.
I may appear reluctant to follow your advice but as I have been busy with my households and office so cant get time to do follow-up on the modifications suggested.
Can someone in this forum suggest me a good Yamaha Mechanic in South Delhi?

Re: Yamaha Gladiator(All)
It's official now - SS125 has been discontinued by Yamaha India. It does not feature anymore in their website.
India Yamaha Motor - Motorcycles
Thogh the Saluto is all set to take the SS125's place and is well capable of doing so, the light weight and low power figures of the Saluto does not make many people comfortable. Specially who want to take long rides on a lower capacity bike. But, the Gladiator/SS125 will retain a special place for people who have a little idea about this bike. Feeling sad as a proud SS125 owner!
