Are you facing any sound from chain if the teeths or chain has past there life chain will make a grinding kind of noise, plus visually inspect both the front and rear sproket teeth, if the sides of the teeths are worn they wont mesh with the chain properly and hence chain will have horizontal slack, SS125 has an open chain or oring -- chain and every open chain get past there life very quickly, one of my friend has reverted to close chain on his SS125 because of this frequent chain eating although he has to get chain cover holding mount welded on the swing arm on his bike.

Thanks for the quick reply.
No, there are no such things. Yes, one or two teeths seem to have got worn out. What should be the ideal interval for replacing the chain sprockets BTW?A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

A little bit of wear tear will always be there nothing to worry any well maintained chain set should be good for 30 to 40,000kms, as your's is open chain i would say 30000kms is quite good, a covered chain set can last upto 80000kms. Do one thing take the chain out of the sprocket and thoroughly clean front and rear sprocket with kerosene or petrol, clean the chain properly lube it, reinstall it and tighten it optimally, and i think this current set will serve you for another 10,000kms or so.

Re: Yamaha Gladiator(All)
Well, 25k to 30k is usual norm for open chain, wearing out of sproket before that limit is not rare... it all depends on riding conditions, weather and care taken.
I had to replace sproket of my SS125 at 14k km.. It was wobbling a bit and teeth were worn out... it could have been used for a few thousand kms more, but i got it replaced since i drive on longer trails and couldnot afford a breakdown in the middle of road with no garage in the visinity...
It got worn out because i had been driving in rough muddy or dusty roads all the time...
However in your case of you are taking good care of it and if on inspection you dont find any wear n tear of teeth, and if you don't feel any abnormal noise from it, you can still use it for another 5k to 10k kms...
Just be careful.. because if it is worn out, it can give you nightmare in the middle of a long ride....
Happy riding...

Yes, that might be the case with my bike I guess. the area I ride through is very muddy during monsoon and during other seasons, I have to negotiate a lot of potholes and dust. Re: Yamaha Gladiator(All)
Any idea about the cost of a CDI Unit? Recently i was unable to start bike using electric or kick start, it was totally dead. The mechanic checked all wires and finally took the tank and tapped on the CDI unit, voila the bike started. But he said, you need to change the CDI unit since it may stop working anytime?
I am not sure should i trust the mechanic, i feel like checking the total wiring? Another issue, it doesn't idle good, i need to open the throttle to keep the bike started (carburetor tuned and idle screws adjusted)
Any suggestions?

Should be around 250 INR. And please change it if your mechanic has suggested you.Originally posted by vijayr View PostAny idea about the cost of a CDI Unit? Re: Yamaha Gladiator(All)
Sorry, my bad. It was to be 2500 INR. One friend of mine got @ 2.5K(as I was informed) from a non-YAMAHA garage. Not sure about the actual price. You can check out from this link:Originally posted by vijayr View PostThe CDI unit costs around 2k in yamaha service centre, are you sure about the price you have given?
Add the service charge and you will get an approximate idea.
Again sorry if I've misinformed you unintentionally. Hope you get the correct unit at the correct price.A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
