    Re: Yamaha Gladiator(All)

The newer SS125s get the CEAT tyres. Though not as good as the Zappers, they do their job nicely.
Let the engine be settled. Tell the idling issue to the mechanics if it persists even after the first servicing.
    Happy riding!

    Re: Yamaha Gladiator(All)

    Hi guys,

I am new to xbhp. Just yesterday got my first bike (Yamaha SS125 - Blue x Black) delivered. Bike looks nice. But I have 2 concerns with the bike now after delivery.

    1) When I checked SS125 owner reviews and forums, I came to know that their bike came with MRF Zappers Nylogrip Front 2.75-18.4PR, Back 3.00-18.6PR, but my bike was delivered with CEAT Secura Zoom Front 2.75-18 (42P), Rear 3.00-18 (52P) . Is this something I should be concerned about? Don't know much about bikes or tyres in general. So how does these CEAT tyres hold against MRF ones?

    2) Then when start the engine in neutral, it idles fine (at around 1k RPM) for the first time. But later after riding the bike for some distance (say 5 - 10kms), when I start the engine again from neutral, it is reving automatically to higher RPM and is idling somewhere between 3k and 4k RPM. What could be the issue? Will this be settled by itself after few runs or do I need to approach the showroom/service guys to fix it?

    Thanks and Best regards,
    Shanmugam

Got it fixed by a mechanic locally and added 7k to the odo (including my backlogs when the speedo cable failed multiple times). But now the speedo error margin is too large. Shows ~67 when I am doing ~60. Also the odo is off by 2 kms for 130kms. Checked this with MyTracks app. Guess I will have to replace it.

It is my first post here, And let me tell you i am in deep trouble. I own a gladiator which i bought in early 2008. I was having a RXG before and the beast RX100 before. So in short i was always a YAMAHA Fan so i decided to buy gladiator. But after 2 years the bike started giving me all sorts of trouble .

The first issue was engine missing, The extent of missing was too much that once it turned of when i was climbing a steep uphill and i fell down. But when i serviced the bike at YAMAHA authorized center, the issue was fixed although for around a month or so and the problem started popping up again. This later became a routine that i no longer cared about missing.

But then another strange issue popped up, Battery not charging. And like all the other people out their, i changed my battery without a second thought, even new battery was not charging even though it was showing the required voltage at terminals. And the YAM guys suggested me to replace the Rectifier, and i did. This didn't fix the issue and later by performing some tests i saw online, i was able to conclude that the alternator coil was faulty. (Although YAM people didn't agree to this ) I changed the alternator coil and the Issue was solved.

and now another issue seemed to have popped up which is making the bike totally unusableThe bike doesn't rev beyond 2 or 3k rpm.. the moment i increase the throttle bike starts acting as if its starving for fuel. The issue doesn't seems to be with carburetor because yamaha guys tried cleaning the carb and tuning them. The problem gets even worse when their is a pillion, The bike hardly goes above 40. Their are lots of misfiring happening too.

I changed sparkplug but issue still exists

Now Yam guys are suggesting me to replace ignition and CDI unit, I really don't Understand whats happening with my bike, Why am i getting so much of problems, i used RX for years and never had to deal with any problems of this sort.

So guys, Tell your views, Is something fishy here ?, Something like the ignition coil was faulty at the first place and it fried up rectifier and dynamo coil.

    Or is it something else
Firstly , i am assuming your wiring hareness is a bit messed up as your RR & Stator failed. Get the stator & RR checked.
    2. There is plug that comes out of the engine left side (stator) , a white plug having 4 wires , yellow , white , black & blue i guess. diconnect the plug , clean both sides terminals with petrol & a tooth brush. Apply grease before fixing it back.

3.Now the cable that connects the spark plug & HT coil is to be removed by unscrewing the cable from the Ht coil & sparkplug cap. cut of around 1 cm of the cable from both the ends and fix it back.
    4. There are two pins in HT coil , remove them , clean them and grease them b4 putting it back.

    5. Remove TPS plug from carburator , clean terminals , apply grease and fix back.

By the above process , you are eliminating any failures in the ignition system whatsoever. CDI is not a toy that will fail every now and then and need replacement. I would not suggest anything to be done with the CDI. Just unplug it , clean the plugs & terminals & put it back.

My bike also behaved as such last Saturday on the way to Vellore from Chennai. My brother suggested it could be a blocked silencer and got worse as we rode along. Found a Yamaha mechanic at Walajah (about 32kms from Vellore). The choke had jammed and he replaced the choke cable and the bike was back to normal. Turned out he was an ex-Yamaha employee.

I suggest you get a second opinion from an outside mechanic.
Exactly!! Even my gladiator's chocke cable , though working suddenly started a peculiar behaviour. If i turn the handle bar to the left , engine was dying. I found out choke cable was the issue though still it was working. I got a new choke cable , lubed & greased it properly and fixed it. The problem just vanished.

But i really dont know how many days i will be able to enjoy this.. .. And yea Let me tell you, i didn't try out any new repairs, It just revived on its on. So i really don't know whats wrong.

Regarding choke coil. Yea the choke cable is working, Its not jammed, i serviced my carburetor recently.

regarding consulting an outside mechanic. Their is no place left in my small city :P. Now the mechanics are like " Oh the glady guy is coming with some new complaints, tell him we are busy " lol

I would like to add few things regarding choke cable, I remember 2 years back i had a problem of engine missing, and found that choke had jammed and i had to give the carburetor to a lathe to get it fixed, and the reason Yam guys said was that its because i don't use choke often. Correct me if i am wrong, i guess choke is to be used only if need arises, The weather here is warm, and always i can start the bike in single crank. So should i still use choke so that it wont get " Jammed ". I feel it strange because i dont remember using choke on RXG everyday.
Shocking that carb was in lathe for a jammed choke . Its as simple as fixing a new spark plug.

i would recommend you to replace the airfilter , not clean it. Simple replace it. Even the spark plug after doing the ignition system cleaning that I suggested above.

Also there are many pipes & breathers in the carb. Not attaching everything properly can be a big issue. Also , as the bike is old , there is a chance of vaccum leak from the hoses of the carb. The hose that connects the carb & airfilter box and also the carb & engine. If possible replace them or atleast apply some kind of sealant at all the joints.

Also the spark plug condition reveals everything about whats going on inside the engine. Remove and check the sparkplug condition. There are various pics 7 charts on google through which you can clearly what story your spark plug is telling. For a quick reference , a black sooty plug means too much fuel or too less air. Reasons can be a jammed choke or a severely choked air filter.

A whitish spark plug means lean mixture in the combustion chamber. That means fuel flow is not proper in the engine. Check carb , needles & fuel hose.

    I hope this helps.

    ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Recently my choke cable stuck and I replaced all possible cables in the bike like throttle cable , choke cable , speedo-meter cable & clutch cable.

Choke cable was in a bad shape.

Also the piston and nut did not match with the old one , hence cleaned and used the old choke piston & nut and everything worked like a charm.

New one which did not work

Also removed and cleaned the exterior of the carb. Also noticed some hoses were disconnected. connected everything before fixing the carb back into place.
