I am not sure about Kolkata... have stayed barely for a few days at Park Street that too doing rounds of meetingsOriginally posted by Subhradeep View PostHi folks,
I want to install green coloured powerful led in the pilot lamp(parking light) of my Fazer.Could you please tell me the rating/ specification and price for this? And will it be a plug and play? I stay in Kolkata. Could anyone kindly tell me any shop name at wellington/any other place in Kolkata, from where I can get this?
Anyways, if you are interested in LED lamps, HID+Projector+Angel Eyes and other electrical mods, get in touch with Navnish: http://www.facebook.com/tourergear
A lot of guys from xbhp have bought stuff from him and his HIDs and other products have a better life compared to local chinese stuff with your local vendors.

It all happened with user Greenknight!! My ride does not consume any oil..Originally posted by shv18 View PostWell in terms of interval, personally i have taken her to 5000 kms without any problem. If you do a google check on this with my name you will get all the reports i have posted. Anyways, What i would say is top it up and do you ride, there shouldnot be any problem.
Once you come back if you again see the engine oil hitting minimum mark then as mentioned by Antz.bin, your ride definitely needs to be checked. If i remember correctly Muztarique's ride started eating 300V in under 1000 kms of filling it up. Later inspection revealed that the piston rings had gone bust. But then again it was deduced that extreme high speed runs on the red lining without modulating the throttle for extremely long distances led to that. Muztarique mate please forgive me if i wrongly mentioned your name for this troubleshooting.

Thank you Shv for your updates. Actually I don't want to fix HID/Angel eyes as of now, just wanted to change the parking light to powerful green l.e.d. So thought this small change would be easier to do locally in Kolkata.

Hey, I think you're talking about the small light just below the head light right?
Well if that's what you're referring to, my friend changed his to a white LED for 90 rupees I think. It's a pretty powerful one too. Of course not enough to light up the road.

Thanks dude.. Could you please tell any specification for it(e.g. 20 s.m.d.)? It should be green & it should fit the stock parking light socket of Fazer.

Hi MikOriginally posted by Mad Mik View PostIts very easy to burn clutches. They are designed to grip but some slipping is always there to allow for smooth take ups.
Easy way to test if clutch is worn in both bike and car.
Go approx 40kph.
Select the tallest gear 4-5-6.
floor/twist the throttle wide open.
If the vehicle jerks, bucks, behaves very roughly then clutches are gripping.
If the vehicle's engine rpm's go up without much change in road speed then clutch/es are slipping.
Could you please elobrate in detail the above test to check the clutch plates. I need to check my clutch plates.
1. At which gear I have to go at 40kph
2. Should 40kph has to be achieved at tallest gear then WOT (or) lower gear and then shift to tallest gear with or without clutch then WOT?
3. Is it necessary to change engine oil when replacing clutch plates since this is wet clutch system?
Spare me if the questions are ridiculous since I'm a noob when it comes to engine internals.
Thanks in advance.2009 Yamaha FZ-S

exactly how I wrote it.
cruise along 40kph, eg 2nd gear, then shift up to top gear, clutch out then WOT.
simple
Saw my mechanic today, He was working on another engine for a completely different bike....with my old cylinder bore.....
Now it seems these cyl's are interchangeable with the modification of 2 holes. These cylinders you can get upto 300cc and He has made bikes with 300cc engines although these are for the mafia/illegal street racer bikes.
Now we are toying with the idea of a 300cc FZ-S.....Ohh and a 4 Valve head

Help needed. Starting problem and more
My fz16(without kicker) has done 26k.
Have changed (major parts alone)
1.Battery.
2. Rear tyre.
3. Chain.
I have not maintained by bike very well. It will be often be used by others, Engine oil change interval not followed regularly, chains not cleaned and lubed regularly and so on. I am angry with myself for not treating my bike well and I want to service my bike religiously hereafter.
Problem no1:Since the last 4 days the bike is not idling well and the engine turns off. I have to use self start 4-6 times to start the engine, I find it easier to start if I shift to neutral and start rather than starting in any gear. Not sure whether it's a coincidence but I changed engine oil 4 days ago (castrol 20w40 1 litre) at a petrol pump and there are signs of oil overflow. (The oil tank (outer area) is dual coloured now, 1. Dirty colour and 2. Clean due to oil spillage ). I am not sure whether the oil spilled while changing.
I have changed oil twice at the same place earlier but the guys doing it are not the same.
Problem no2: Also the gear shift is extremely hard at times. It won't shift at times, it helps if I try after a few seconds (after travelling few metres) and if I shift slowly. The gear shift has never been smooth (Typical Yamaha?). I had a fall few months after the purchase and the gear shift lever was bent and the SVC guys adjusted it.
Problem no3: There is leakage of oil in the forks. Time to change oil and seals I guess?
I visited a SVC in chennai today and they asked me to do the following.
1. Fork bend 1200
2. Handle bar change 350
3. Service 375
4. Accelerator cable 210
5.Clutch cable 100
6. Choke cable 175
7. Air filter 250
8.Fork oil seal 550
9. Fork oil 950
10. RB kit (bearings in fork) 550
11. Rear indicator 120
12. Labour 1200
13. Gear springs 300
14. Spark plug 150
I found the price of oil seal, fork oil on the higher side (when compared to the prices posted in XBHP) and the charges for labour and fork bend outrageous!
The handle bar was changed recently and I am not sure if the fork is bent in the first place. Is it a common practice to include fork bend to jack up the final bill?
Since the total cost came to 6500, went to a local mechanic who hinted at going for a new bore (piston cylinder, costs 2500) and I am puzzled at this. Isn't 26000kms too low a figure for a new bore?
Your suggestions, comments and advices are much needed. Also, If you can recommend a Good mechanic in Chennai I will appreciate it, had a look at the universal thread and will look again.Last edited by lovelongrides; 10-18-2012, 12:53 AM.

By the way what is your definition of bike with lots of problems?
I tell you what this forum does to guys looking to buy a bike -
I was searching for a bike and came across this thread. Read each and every post in the thread. Left reading for sometime and then again read most of the pages again and again.. making a point in my diary. There were posts like the tyres are puncturing a lot etc etc.. But there were also posts from owners that they dont have any problem.
After going through the forum I was so confident about the bike that booked the bike without even a test ride! I was so confident about the performance of the bike that from 2nd service didnt go for even free services (the reason was poor SVC, no oil filter available, yamalube oil was freaking rough etc etc.) But it takes guts to let the warranty go from 3rd month of ownership. At that time (Feb-March2011) I was very thankful to ppl like Nand15 for typing their experiences here. It gave me confidence to take the bike.
Its the same with me,though i bought the bike first (second hand bike,by the time i could buy aRX,it was out of production) i became a member in this forum. now i amrebuilding my RX. right now i am hunting parts, i am changing each and everypart of this bike, the only old parts i am keeping is the cylinder head and theinner crank case..(not available any more). If it was not for the RX i wouldhave bought only FZ.
Now I will discuss hypes against them!! - I dont know what you mean by that. I dont think anyone has said anything against shv18 anytime.
There is a constant effort from ppl who want to give back the help they have got to other new users. I have noted it n number of times that there are queries from new users pending for a day or two and when ppl like Jonahmano tries to answere them.. he is being pounced upon. Though I agree that wrong information should not be given but everyone is giving away information in good faith!
what i told is not aboutshv18, it about guys like mad mik and lucky luke. i read these threads from the begining to the last, almost daily, it took more than amonth i think to finish it. somebody who reads the thread continuously canunderstand what i told.
i believe passing wrong orinformation you are not sure about is very very dangerous especially forsomeone who is riding a 2 wheeler. above all ignorant people like me, maythink the answer given is very true and may try it and can encounter danger.
sopassing wrong information is very dangerous even in good faith. letthem wait so that they can get a correct answer from the experts.
Some ppl may know a lot.. but that a lot comes out when you want to prove other wrong. Go back in time.. its all documented.. how many times senior members (except Shv18) tries to answer basic questions!
i hope most people here have a primary job, when they get time only they log in and dispense the answers, so what we can do is wait rather than going the wrong way!!
I would appreciate replies to questions, rather than replies to replies to a question!
You (rxdude) have become a member from May 12 (5 months). How many times have you helped other forum members in some very very small requests?? You have been reading around and then one fine day you come up with this idea of appreciating some members.. you try solving some minor issues of fellow YAMAHA owners and the moment you go away from the book, there is an army just waiting to pounce upon you!!
Yup, its been 5 months butthe nature of my job doesnt allow me to go online everytime, i consider itsjust because of my passion for bikes i became a member in thisforum and read through the whole FZ thread. My main interest is 2strokes and i have read almost all the threads in it.
i givean answer only if i know i am 100% right. for example in spare parts threadsomebody asked me about RX 135 tank availability. i was able to answer it justbecause i bought one, a week before . so i was able to give an answer about the available colours and price that is 100% correct
Looking forward to seeing you helping some users...Answers in boldOriginally posted by shv18 View PostFirst of all thank you for your kind words.. but believe me i am no expert
.. there are other senior riders like PSR Ji, Abhimanyu31 and a lot of others from whom we have all learnt a about motorcycling and trouble shooting.
You need not be an expert as long as you can give the correct answers or atleast you can lead somebody in the right direction, but the irony is that only people who know the subject can only show the right direction, so we call them expert!!. Sorry if i forgot to mentioin other experts name..you guys name i see constantly so the names just came to mind
If you have just concluded by reading this thread that Yamaha FZ/Fazer is a bike full of problems then mate you have got it all wrong. An ownership thread is a place meant for people to come up with their respective issues and others to help and identify it and solve it for them. One cannot simply conclude that just because there are so many common issues discussed, the product is not good. But one should rather understand that the ownership thread is the place where people share experiences and advices which helps us all understand the bike, troubleshoot common minute niggles and in the process how do we all educate each other to become better trouble shooters ourselves and in general become a more educated rider right from understanding the mechanical aspect and also the safety part of it.
I know Yamaha build qualityis better than all the bikes here in India atleast, but i was just askingyou..anyway now i understood it. Thank You!
Coming to your question... if i have understood correctly.. a car does get its first service done at 1000 kms and post that based on the engine oil recommended the service intervals for the pump gas based motors is 15,000 kms. The nature of the engine is different.. the machinery and metals used in the engine is different, the power output and load carrying capacity and a lot of variables are different compared to a motorcycle engine.
A Yamaha FZ/Fazer is bike manufactured with price constraints where the manufacture has to provide a product in the market which is affordable, yet stylish and easier to maintain. Secondly, an FZ engine is air cooled and mostly yamaha recommends putting in mineral oil to keep the cost of ownership low for the general public. Thirdly, ask yourself this question, if Yamaha would have manufactured this same bike using exotic materials to increase the service interval to say 10,000 kms and better power output and charged you 1.6 lkhs INR would you have bought it? may be you would have but would the general public in India had bought it.. most likely not. India is a price sensitive market so Yamaha had to provide us everything within a price band acceptable by the general Indian public. As a result we have what we have on our table currently.
So for the price band have a superb chassis and loves to go around corners, the base engine is tuner friendly.. it does lack power at the top end but with the significant grunt in the low and mid end it compensates for city riding which almost accounts to 70-80% of our commuting.
After reading this ijust came to the conclusion, its the material used, its an air cooledengine and the price constraints that prevents them from making a better engine
BTW just so you know FZ/Fazer brought back yamaha from almost packing up their bags and leaving india for good. It is their highest selling product if i have got the nos. correct.. So definitely the Japs do know their market better.
you are very right aboutthis point. if the FZ never clicked, the name yamaha would have become historyin India.
Hope this clears your doubt.
Yup, thank you
PS: Always been a fanatic fan of the RX 100 and RD 350 30bhp model.
No true biker can forget a RX orRD!
Cheers,

seems like an issue with the clutch wire..... when you are in a gear and stationery and have the clutch engaged does the bike tries to move forward by small amounts and you need to apply brakes to stop? if yes you need to change your clutch wire...
