  • I am pretty disappointed with the headlights and I have decided to go for Bi-xenon projector headlights. My budget is 4-5K.
I am located in Mumbai. Do you guys know a reputed and trusted place in Mumbai where I can get this done?

Who the crap svc guys is who touched the carburettor befor 5k kms It was strict order from the Yamaha to the SVC guys not to touch the carb till 5k kms. If you are getting 50+ then it is not good for the engine. Check the sparkplug condition and see if you are running too lean and tell them to revert back to stock setting. Did you tell them on first service that you are getting less mileage? It's all cunning tricks to push the product by gaining more mileage at the cost of engine's life. I think these guys want to prove that fzs can also get near to good mileage hondas apaches and pulsars. I don't think you have to panic too much, after changing the setting and also check the idle RPM. If the RPM is higher then the engine sound will be higher. See that if you can decrease it and keep it till 1.4k.

before 1st servicing i was getting 45+ (not more than 50 though..).......i never told them to change the settings......but when i observed decrease in mileage post 1st servicing..... i went to them....nd they changed.....idle rpm was also set to very low.....just 1k due to which i was getting cold starts in morning...........i increased it to 1.2k.....now cold starts has been resolved....but the engine sound is not gud...m literally scared to ride it...fearing i may rip open the engine or smthng.....also earlier i asked you guys abt a sound coming frm the engine as if some plastic cover is stuck inside the piston......even that increased....over the time...

          • Can anyone tell me how do I get the engine number and chassis number for my FZ-S ? Thinking of getting my bike insurance online this time.
Also, What IDV would I be expecting for a FZ-S that's 2 years old ? ICICI Lombard is giving me IDV of 50K which is like 8K less than last year, but their premium is higher than what I paid last year.

engine and chassis number should be there in ur last insurance doc...if not... chassis number will be imprinted on the black rod...supporting the handle and headlight......just in front of petrol tank....not sure of engine number......smwhere on the engine....below piston position......at the same level of ur chain.....i guess...

What exactly should the OP be looking for when he checks the plug?
Where about exactly on the plug should the OP be looking?
You never specified what RPM to chop the plug at.

I'm sure the OP will unscrew the plug after the bike had been idling, Looked at the plug with no idea what he is seeing.
Will the bike mech's at the shop know what they are looking at with regards to the plug?

Thanks Vimal, I did find the chassis number from the place where you just mentioned. Actually, my previous insurance had a wrong chassis number, so this should be good enough for me now.!!

Hey Man! I'm not a mechanic and never intend to be one. I'm just a rider. I have learnt from what mechanics do till now. I owned three different kind of bikes in my life and for all that they just opened the sparkplug and determine whether my bike is running rich or lean. Now I understand that you are a learned person. Instead of poking, why don't you just suggest remedy. Have seen you poking into my every posts all over the forums here. My good teacher just don't look into others mistakes and leave them. It's better you also correct them.

I think having scissors and comb in my hand won't make me a barber.

                        • Hi XBHPians,
i own a FZ16, which is just 0ne month old, i did a first service 3 days back and since that my engine is getting hotter than usual, when i checked the engine oil level(with center stand, idled for few minutes, then after few minutes i checked the level) which is exactly at minimum level.
                          What shall i do now?
They changed the oil filter in first service, so the amount of oil to be filled in with oil filter change is 1.10L, i seriously doubt the service guys whether they filled the right amount of oil.
And my ODO reads 1500km till now, shall i go for fully synthetic now, if so please suggest the Brand and VI of the oil to be used.
Now i am using YAMALUBE 20W40(Supposed to be done during first service)

The hotter crank case and bore, head after a normal ride with 65kmph as average speed is not something i felt before my first service, GUYS this makes me worry a lot.
Its like burning hot, i cant tough them even.
Please suggest some ideas on how to resolve this issue, by the way i live in Chennai.

You need to go meet the svc guy and if he doesn't agree. Go to local mechanic, he will help you out.

Get it checked by a local mechanic. As far as I know, the Yamaha SVC don't do a proper job unless you have a good rappo with someone there. I got my bike serviced at the SVC only for the first three services to keep the warranty valid. Then I continued with my own mechanic who does a far better job.
