Mineral oil does turn black quickly due to oxidation when it comes in contact with the air and then also with your engine running. Actually the colour turning black is not exactly the right parameter to judge the condition of the oil Take one drop of engine oil in between your finger tip and close and open your fingers.. if the oil is sticky then it still has the properties to lubricate properly. If it is runny then the oil has lost the lubrication properties and only the base oil remains. A good engine oil is a must as it also acts a a heat exchanger/coolant; cooling the engine.

What is your FE? if it is hovering around 40-45 kmpl then the tuning is fine from what i can understand. If the colour of the spark plug tip is chocolate brown then it is running stoich mix as explained in PSR Ji's diagram.

Try Motul mineral Oil 3000V 4T 20W 40. Costs the same as Yamalube but your engine will feel much smoother and the engine heat will reduce. I would recommend that you try Motul Semi Synth oil 300v 4T 15W 50 "single ester" as that is one of the best grade oils you can find in the market say once your free services are done. Will last around 3000-3500 kms. You can get in touch with Motul representatives from the website or else shoot a mail to atlantic lubricants they can arrange home delivery in major cities if the nearest Motul retail shop is very far from your home.

    Cheers,
Looks like MOTUL has a very good reputation, will have to try that.
And i havent really tested my FE, will soon post the snaps and FE
What do you refer by "stoich" mix? I need some more info on this
I think all the YAMAHA dealers around here sell MOTUL oil(Hope they are genuine), let me confirm the availability tomorrow.

By the way, your signature Quote is superb, always make me laugh, i think it conveys a STRONGGGGGGG message to the society

I dont want to mix and match.

        Any suggestions?

PS: I have tubes in both tyres because if the air leakage caused by slight bend in the rims which is a problem faced by many as i've read.

No need to change the front tire brand.. front tire seldomly goes Kaput on punctures and the stock MRF is very good with grip in cornering. If you are really looking for a lot of grip you can check Pirelli Sports Demon both for front and back.. i cannot comment on the kms you can run on the slick tires.. check with member Dilip Deville on that.

I would recommend sticking with front MRF stock and rear Tuff Grip.

        Cheers,

            Thanks for the info shv18.

Was beginning to think no one was going to reply to the question lol. I have no complaints about the grip and cornering abilities the stock tyres had, its just that they developed so many cracks. Maybe it was because of the air leakage caused by the bent rim.

Anyway since I am changing the set, I said I might as well go in for something better if its available. I use my bike mostly for long rides on the weekends. So I guess soft compound isn't the best option for me.

Yeah I visited one, they had a blue with white stripe limited edition bike. I just wanted some other color.

Yeah I agree but being an amateur I prefer it to be somewhat unique while buying.

                  • Maybe its the riding style? Or the way the engine is maintained? No offense meant of course. I get around 40 on my 3 year old FZ-16 and about 45 on highways.

Just 1 year old bike, close to 8k kms, all services done timely and I ride pretty normal. Not a mad rider. Dont know what I could be doing wrong..

That shouldnt be the case. I know our bikes arent noted for their fuel economy but it small things like maintaining correct air pressure, clutch plates, not revving unnecessarily, riding in higher gears, etc can help with your average. Find a good mechanic, get it serviced.

Guys, from past 1100 kms I am on Mobil Delvac Super 1300 15W40 Pure mineral, Base II oil (260 rs / litre). If anyone amongst you is encountering rough gear shifts and rough engine. This is an exceptional oil. Though priced higher than normal mineral oils.. but worth every penny.
Completely replaces fully synthetic or semi synthetic oils in comfort.
Someone else(@sandeepcf) has also used in it fazer (details on the engine oil thread) and is happy about it. He covered some 2000 km on it.
The engine oil is safe and there is no clutch slippage in my or his bike.
I just cant imagine 20 km on a mineral oil (my bike is so rough) and here I am using this oil from 1100 kms.
When going to buy the oil dont use the word Base II.. it is just to tell you that the oil is not the regular Base I mineral oil and is better refined. It is not a Base III which is major constituent of Shell Advance Ultra 10w40.
Just wanted to share with you all who are investing in FS oils just for comfort. You can read the review of the oil on the engine oil thread. I am so happy with the oil, that I will (hopefully) never put anything else in the bike.

But my doubt is we have to use 20W40, which is recommended for our FZ
                                Can somebody clear this..!
