P.S: While adjusting the rear brake light switch, be careful not to make it too loose, the spring might unhook at one end and fixing it back is a bit difficult as reaching the place to hook it back might be a little difficult, but nothing to worry about if you have a little patience, can be done easily.

So I guess nothing serious there then. Will wait till my upcoming service and get it fixed then. I am pretty useless when it comes to DIY stuff you know

After contemplating for over 2 years whether to go for a better lighting upgrade or not, i have finally decided to install HID on my FZ. I have always been apprehensive about any minute electrical mods or messing around with the electrical wiring of the stock bike. The stock battery is AMCO 5 amps (i believe i had wrongly mentioned it to be 3.5 amps a long time ago, sorry about that!). So it should be able to take the load of an 35 watt HID easily.

But after getting constant enquiries from Stanley27 and other riders for going ahead with mods like Mad Mik (I completely blame him for laying out such a simple yet detailed info about the installing the kit!! ) abhimanyu31, i felt that i should not be left out right?? Only one man's name constantly came up on xbhp thread whenever the HID was searched right along with xbhp; navnesh. All xbhp riders swear by his product and his HIDs have survived over 4 years without the Ballast or the bulb going kaput. His HIDs have survived the brute journey of Leh, Ladakh and constant thrashing on some of the worst roads in India so i guess i don't need anymore convincing in this regard. For those who are keen or in the process of hunting for HID+Projector+Angel eyes should definitely get in touch with him.

    Price/cost??

Well i had a long list of mails exchanged between me and Navnesh. I had specifically mentioned that i donot want more than 35 watts, 4200/4300 Kelvin HID bulb+Projector+Angel eyes (so as to keep the specifications acceptable by pandus/cops in Mumbai and across India) and it should not affect or put load on my battery or electrical systems in any manner. He patiently answered all my queries and recommended that i should opt for HID which is priced a bit higher compared to the cheaper chinese variants which in the market cost 4.5k to 5k INR along with angel eyes and projectors and if lucky may last for 2 years, if not 6 months and without any warranty too.

He has quoted INR 6,500+150 shipping charges.

    The set up will have:

    * 35 watt 4200K HID bulb car grade quality
    * 3 inch with shroud angel eyes (term it a monster one!)
    * A strong metal body projector which can also hold a 55 watt HID should i decide to opt for higher output
    * Wiring harness and relay for controlling the bi-xenon function.
    * 35 Watt Ballast (PICC/CE certified) comes with 1 year warranty.
    * Overall 1 year replacement warranty.

I will place an order the moment i am back to Mumbai, so now she will have a bigger heart and better eye sight too!!

Navnesh can be contacted: [email protected]/[email protected]

    Hope this was usefulCheers,
Hey Shiv, so glad that you have decided to take the plunge in HID world . I feel, not only for aesthetics but given the condition of roads and street lighting it can be a life saver.
Thanks for all your patience and research for answering all my irritating queries repeatedly through PMs. Can't thank you enough .

Yeah, me too came across tourer gear in HID thread but his response were very slow through FB messages and didn't have his mail id too then. Hence he lost me as a customer.
Anyways, I oredered through R&D Motovil and waiting my courier to arrive now. Co-owner Rohit, is a knowledgeable guy and explains you all the possible options over the phone in details.

Btw, did Navnesh happed to mention anything about the brand of the HID kit like Tech hardy, KDO etc?

Also I am still little confused over the legality of colors in India due to contradictory info over internet. Is anything over 4300K illegal or its safe to use till 6000K in India?

I would recommend checking idling first and observing result as your bike is too new for clutch cable replacement.
Even I hope the same but I fear it may be clutch cable then because I don't have any problem about idling I feel. Bike starts normally at the first attempt but sometimes it does stop in slow moving traffic so its a bit confusing. Anyways will get it checked too during bike servicing.

Hello shv18. Happy to know that you are going for the projector hid mod. I am too using that setup since a few months. What i personally feel is low beam is just perfect, but high beam is not upto mark. For high beams the ellipsodial beam of the p220 is the best. Just wanted to share my experince with the lights and if only our charging system could support two 55 watts lights then the p220's light setup would have been the best. All the best with your mods and waiting for ride reports after heart transplant..

How did you check? Throught the glass window or opened the master cylinder? DOT4 is transparent and DOT3 is red in color. Normally factory filled with DOT4, so not properly visible through the glass window. If braking is fine and no spongy feel there is no issue with oil level.

As far as i am aware of 4300K is the legal limit for bikes.. any range above that is purely white light which is absolutely useless when riding in the rains and dangerous too. As far as 4300K is concerned it falls under yellow band of the colour spectrum if i remember correctly and 5000k/kelvin is the colour temperature of the sun.

Navnesh is currently out of country so his responses may be a bit slow... my mails were responded after 2 days but nonetheless that is good enough for me. I haven't checked the brand with him yet but the guy has a reputation in xbhp and also being a passionate rider by himself defines the fact that he knows what he is selling
. thats how i ended up buying up my scoyco riding gear!! my seller Bhavishya is an extremely passionate rider so his enthusiasm was good enough for me to make the purchase and now after over 2 years and on the gears have literally outlasted their shelf life!

Clutch cable needs to be adjusted and the idling rpm checked. If for any reason the clutch play has become too much and the cable is beyond adjustment, replace it ASAP! Costs just 89 bucks INR.

: Bro on Indian highways one needs better low beam spread more than high beam. I am happy with the stock bulb's high beam but low beam is seriously horrible and doesn't highlight anyone suddenly crossing the road which makes it very difficult to do night riding especially on unlit highways.

In your case I believe some slight adjustments with your set up should do the trick . Would you mind sharing some pics of your ride with the HID and another just the angel eyes ON with us folks? I want to see how the shroud angel eyes look like!

There is only minimum level indicator, anything more than that won't be easily noticed. Stock is DOT4, transparent. If there is nothing then brake won't function properly.

                • Thanks for the details...can i open the cylinder to check oil level?

                  Comment

                  • I think its not avisible to open up the reservior and then using the same oil. Brake fluids react to atmospheric air and gets affected. Inturn reducing the braking efficiency.
I suggest, that checking through the window is the best option, like deville said, if its below the mark, then only you need to worry. If it was empty , most probably you wouldnt be hainv g any brakes and i think you might have noticed thats not the case, since your still here...

                    • LOL..... .... yes, you are right...front brake is the only life saver in FZ or Fazer. For rear one,you have to stand on the brake pedal just to slow down. Its good then, mine front brake is working fine,no issues.

Guys did you notice the small lights? Its a DRL that I've made. I've connected it to ignition so everytime i switch the ignition "on", it lights up. Its just a 1 watt led each with a lens taken from eveready lights.. Actually I like to DIY. So all of my cosmetic mods, from plonking in the projectors and painting the reflectors to black to painting matt black on the front mudguard is a DIY.Hope you guys like it.

I'd rather be doing more constructive things (Borderlands 2 on PS3 for example) but anyway see the above quotes and read between the lines.

Now I would rather see with my own eyes the results of a comparison than someones review, that way I can see for myself and make my own mind up. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a video clip is worth a million?
Anyway lets put this to rest and move on.

                            **Simple install, but less light**
If you do upgrade your light with the halogen bulb, it will be done in a matter of minutes.

**Harder install, but more useable light**
If you want to do a projector install with a HID bulb (recommended or you will blind oncoming people since you have no focus of the light if you just swap the Halogen bulb with a H4 xenon/HID bulb) then it will take longer as you need to wire it up, open the headlight lense etc.

Thanks for the pics mate!! makes things much more clearer now . DRL lights look awesome!! Have you connected the HID directly to the battery? and not cutting any of the stock wires i hope!! As far as i am aware of the HID needs DC set up which our bike has and also high amperes to start up the bulb. That's why it is mostly connected directly to the battery terminal. A lot of people have recommended installing a relay in between the HID connection and the battery so as to avoid any kind of over heating and stuff! i am no electrical engineer so a basic noob style explanation may help. Mik sorry couldn't refer to you earlier post please correct me if i am wrong on this!

Where have you hidden the ballast? Iceman331 did a simple tape and past on the inside of the right hand side of the petrol tank and then covered it with the FZ plastic panel.

P.S. : My bike is a 2010 model and has already done 22k+ on the odo..

yes buddy...it looks empty but not..... as deville_56 said.....as long as ur braking is fine brake oil is at recommended level......even this doesnt help ...then you can open up the master tank and have a look by urself. if the level is low then refiill it. follow the below link. the link is for bleeding brake fluid (replacement of fluid). u dnt need to do it. but just have a look. you will get an idea. hope it helps
