  • my friend he uses Phillips X-treme bulb for his FZ16. He does mostly night riding and for a few hrs each way at night. He swears by them.
I was going to get the same bulb and upgrade my headlight, but I went with a HID projector instead.
If you can afford the $ then go for a decent projector with 4300K light.

Read here that Osram nighbreaker is poor for riding under rainy conditions. Your opinion?

What brand HID can I get for 2500?

That was a very rude way to answer a direct question. He asked you because he thought you would have better experience as you have a hid and your friend has a philips x-treme bulb.

any light colour above 3000K is pretty much useless in the rains.... be it Nightbreaker, HID or Xtreme vision..... as for HID brand goes contact navnesh he can help you with it.... I have been using his HID from the past 2 years....

I have read many posts of yours and found them helpful. They are insightful and shows that you are knowledgeable. You also seem to know yourself very well and that is very evident from your username. Without contributions from people like you these forums won't be as good as this. When you are looking for a forum for the lols goto 4chan and when you are in the mood for contributing please help people like us who cannot search.

I understand seniors get frustrated when people ask the same question again and again. I hope my posts don't give the impression of forum leech, I am trying hard not be one. I am trying to contribute already by posting prices of spares, expenses and more and will contribute more with time. If you have read this far then thanks.

I don't see it as rude.
We are all grown ups here (I hope), We are also not made of sugar. When it rains do you melt?
I will call a spade a spade. Would you rather someone blow hot air up you than tell you the truth?
Had the OP done a bit of due diligence and did read back a few pages you will have seen a number of posts with regards to the mentioned lights, and also the poster who has been using the same light and other similar lights.

I don't have a 4300k light, It is a 6000k light. My preference is the 4300K as it is closest to natural and less stress on the eyes.
When the 4300K bulb comes in to the vendors shop (hopefully in the next few days) I will get it and install it.
Had the OP researched for himself he would know that there is a major difference between 4300k and 6000k.

Are people that lazy now that they rather ask for answers than searching?
Before I do something I do a lot of research and it involves googling, looking on other forums, manufacturer webpages, documents, images, videos etc as well as speaking to mechanics and picking their brains. There is so much information available to us now, right at our fingertips, There is no excuse for not doing a little research on the subject before asking for answers, At least show that you have done a little research in your question.
Just take a look at Luc's research in to the cyl head.

If I have exhausted all my practical means of searching for answers then I will post up on a forum. Lets face it, doing a google search will throw up forums from different countries, Not just your home country, Not to mention all forums have search bars. There are forums dedicated to any subject you can think of, Even HID lights, Lasers incase you are interested and even flashlights.

Perhaps it is like a few of you have mentioned, Different culture. I'm used to doing things for myself, Don't rely on others because at the end of the day its my ass on the line.
In my job even though I have guys working under me, at the end of the day if we don't perform its my ass that gets chewed. I'm the one responsible.

There is nothing stopping you from learning by yourself. I did, I didn't go to school to learn about engines. I stood there with my cars bonnet up, staring at the "engine" wondering to myself WTF is all this crap. Poked around, followed plumbing, fuel lines, wiring etc. I went from there to pulling engines out, rebuilding, calculating better clearances to suit my needs and getting internals machined to suit, engine transplants, converting autos to manual.
What research I did was done in libraries, Pouring over books, writing notes etc. No internet around at that time.
Now with the internet being everywhere we have a massive library far bigger than anything ever built, right here in front of us. Some of us choose to use it and others don't.
It appears that there are still a lot of people out there wanting to be spoonfed and told what they want to hear.

              • Mik,
If you don't see that as rude I don't know how to explain. Probably you should read it after few days. If you have just said "use the search button" I would have searched.

I am glad that you brought the teacher analogy. I remember my teachers saying no question is stupid and if students ask really stupid questions probably they will smile and explain or ask them to read or to seek the help of a friend. They won't make a scene or try to create a joke which would ensure that the student never asks a question in future.

There are so much content here, right in this thread and I have read more than half of it in the last few weeks and if you do see my earlier posts you will see that I have done research. If you feel that's not true please tell and I will change.

I did not exactly open a thread asking for a comparison but posted since you were mentioning both and I thought what better than hearing from the horse's mouth. People know a rough mileage of FZ but does that stop people from asking. When many members share their figures it helps somone decide. Different people have different opinions and I wanted to hear yours and I know your's would be more helpful than 95% of the content elsewhere. If we decide to post as less as we could then there is no use to have a Dynamic platforms like forums, a static review site will suffice.

There is no way people can repay senior's contribution expect appreciating it. My apologies if I have offended you in any way.

                • Hello, need advice on couple of problems I am facing guys:
                  1) Earlier my bike used to start while in gear but now it only starts in neutral.
                  2) My rear light is always on even when pilot and headlight lamps are at off position. This I have already read in previous posts that we need to loosen or tighten some cable. Just wanted to know how serious or urgent it is. I have my 3rd free service coming up on 10-Nov-12, so can I wait and get it fixed then without any serious damage to the bike?

                  • The rear light being on is as you mentioned adjustable , if its the rear foot brake that's the problem , then there is a nut like thingy on the side of the foot brake, behind the leg rest, you will find it attached with a spring to the play of the brake lever, you can tighten or loosen that nut as and when till the brake lights is adjusted as needed, if its the front brake , there is a adjuster covered in a rubber cover near the front brake lever itself, i don't know how to operate that, someone here might be able to help.

P.S: While adjusting the rear brake light switch, be careful not to make it too loose, the spring might unhook at one end and fixing it back is a bit difficult as reaching the place to hook it back might be a little difficult, but nothing to worry about if you have a little patience, can be done easily.

                    Cheers

I dont get how googleing can compare your hid with your friend's headlight bulb, unless you already posted the comparision somewhere, and also please note you did not mention what xxxK was your headlights color.

Coming to a conclusion if someones lazy or not without even properly understanding the question asked to you does not suit someone of your kind of experience.

                          • HID Upgrade

                            Hi All,

After contemplating for over 2 years whether to go for a better lighting upgrade or not, i have finally decided to install HID on my FZ. I have always been apprehensive about any minute electrical mods or messing around with the electrical wiring of the stock bike. The stock battery is AMCO 5 amps (i believe i had wrongly mentioned it to be 3.5 amps a long time ago, sorry about that!). So it should be able to take the load of an 35 watt HID easily.

But after getting constant enquiries from Stanley27 and other riders for going ahead with mods like Mad Mik (I completely blame him for laying out such a simple yet detailed info about the installing the kit!! ) abhimanyu31, i felt that i should not be left out right?? Only one man's name constantly came up on xbhp thread whenever the HID was searched right along with xbhp; navnesh. All xbhp riders swear by his product and his HIDs have survived over 4 years without the Ballast or the bulb going kaput. His HIDs have survived the brute journey of Leh, Ladakh and constant thrashing on some of the worst roads in India so i guess i don't need anymore convincing in this regard. For those who are keen or in the process of hunting for HID+Projector+Angel eyes should definitely get in touch with him.

                            Price/cost??

Well i had a long list of mails exchanged between me and Navnesh. I had specifically mentioned that i donot want more than 35 watts, 4200/4300 Kelvin HID bulb+Projector+Angel eyes (so as to keep the specifications acceptable by pandus/cops in Mumbai and across India) and it should not affect or put load on my battery or electrical systems in any manner. He patiently answered all my queries and recommended that i should opt for HID which is priced a bit higher compared to the cheaper chinese variants which in the market cost 4.5k to 5k INR along with angel eyes and projectors and if lucky may last for 2 years, if not 6 months and without any warranty too.

He has quoted INR 6,500+150 shipping charges.

                            The set up will have:

I'm also interested in this mod mate. If you have any wiring modification details for r15 speedo installation then pls share it.

                                1) Earlier my bike used to start while in gear but now it only starts in neutral.
I had the exact problem few days ago and after clutch cable replacement and idling adjustment the problem went away. Mechanic adjusted idling in a minute and clutch cable replacement is a 5-10 minute job. Cost of clutch cable is around 105 rs. I would recommend checking idling first and observing result as your bike is too new for clutch cable replacement.
