I'm using Castrol power1 since last 2 services.. Works fine, no complaints except engine heating much more then before when i used Yamalube. Since u have used it, please elaborate the advantages of Motul or Petronas over power 1. I can get Motul easily here in mumbai but no idea about Petronas, its not much popular here i guess.Originally posted by N-o-v-i-c-e View Post

Basically I am a Automotive embedded software guy. So I know how much we have to rely on the displays. I won't change the fuel reserve mechanism till the fuel path runs dry and vehicle stopped.Originally posted by s_and_m View PostCan you tell us if u switch to reserve on the Fuel Indicator blink or when the fuel line actually runs dry in the 'On' Mode? If you rely on the blinking of the indicator, then you shouldn't worry (yet) and check your kms till the line runs dry. If it is still showing the same numbers, then you should get some help.
EDIT:
@Everyone: I have a question. Anyone got their spark plugs changed to something more exotic? Is it showing any effects? Is it safe in the long run? My FZ16 has done 10400 kms, and is 13 months old.
I'm also thinking about getting a better horn installed - not very loud.. just about as loud as pulsars or R15 or RTR's. Can someone suggest a horn with ratings compatible with the stock battery.. so that it does not mess with the battery.
I had a same milege issue in Suzuki Fiero (got only 32KMPL) and tried to get it resolved in the free service time itself. But there was no proper response from the TVS guys. But later after few years I have noticed it was improved to 50KMPL. I don't know how??????????
Here I want to sort it out immediately. Then later if I want to do any modifications in the bike, I can cross verify the milege impact.

Well...the foremost reason being poor heat management as you said....Originally posted by mitz View PostI'm using Castrol power1 since last 2 services.. that may be coz i observed it to be a thinner than the synths....
then it was engine harshness
.......castrol would be good for only when
the engine is cold.....once engine warms up then the harshness was
directly proportional to the increase in rpm
.....
thats not how a synthetic is supposed to be.....it was the same as the
mineral yamalube .......
With Petronas and Motul(my frnd frnd bike
) the revs are so free...i dont even know when it crosses the 7k-8k mark.....also the heat dissipated is less even in this summer
........
Engine response is also better.....and last but not the least it will save your engine in the longer run
......
Its not like i absolutely hate castrol....but just didnt like it from personal experience....
Hope this clears your mind.....cheersLast edited by N-o-v-i-c-e; 04-19-2010, 11:31 PM.

True about the engine harshness.. I can feel the vibes above 5-6 k rpm all the time & that is why I never cruise at 60-70 kmph mark because of the engine harshness. However, above 7 k rpm, the bike feels smooth again.Originally posted by N-o-v-i-c-e View PostWell...the foremost reason being poor heat management as you said....

Yup....u said it right buddy....better wait for the 5k mark before going for those oils.....Originally posted by mitz View PostTrue about the engine harshness.. Most of the engine gets set in the first 500km itself.......the rest is what we say fine tuning
......
U can put the synths between 4.5k to 5k.....
No worries.......cheers....

Thanks for the input. Will get in touch with yam factory shop asapOriginally posted by N-o-v-i-c-e View PostNo prob with the batteries....go ahead.....the fazer horns are available
as a pair....they will remove the old one.....
There is a Gpower from NGK fo FZ but there is no significant gain from it....atleast thats what the feedback i got....else you can take a chance and go for the honda's Iridium like the others did.....
Go for the motul semi-synth or the petronas full synth......
these are the two best options available in Pune....
Dont bother with Castrol......already used it.....
Rest all is your decision....cheers....
If true average is that erratic, i don't know what to say. If you live in Pune, you might be in luck since people are of the opinion that Yamaha Factory Shop have good mechanics and engineers and they will take a look at your issue. If you aren't in Pune, then go to a good Yamaha SVC (yes, I know its hard to find one... but still) and get it checked out.Originally posted by rpmraj View PostBasically I am a Automotive embedded software guy. Constant speed for most of the time?
friends,
this is my second post or so i think...i used to ride mostly in NH7 as my office is around 40 kms away from home...around 30 kms is a stretch road and i used to drive at a costant speed between 90 to 100 and sometimes above 100...there wont be any change in speed unless there is a need to reduce...will it create any problem? ya, am getting mileage of around 35 and its not best, but apart from that, will it damage the engine or create any other problem?
experts, pls help

Good to know that man.. I'll be definitely switching over to Motul as it is recommended by few of you here. Castrol P1 gives up after 1000 kms. Any idea about cost of Petronas?Originally posted by vinais View PostBeen using Motul 300v since 4K. Now close to about 7.5K, will change it in the next month.
Got it for 895 bucks but every rupee well spent due to the improvement in the ride experience.
I had my 3rd service on 25th march & had changed my oil to castrol P1 so I would switch over to Motul on my next service.Originally posted by N-o-v-i-c-e View PostYup....u said it right buddy....better wait for the 5k mark before going for those oils.....

PS: I had my bike's service on 25th March 2010 & rode it for around 100 kms after service till 28th March 2010 & thereafter i left mumbai for official reasons. I'll be getting back to mumbai tomorrow. The problem is that my bike is idle since nearly a month & even the engine was'nt started by anyone since last 1 month. I have had such experience in past when I left my bike home & returned after a couple of weeks & when attempted to start the bike, it wont start at all no matter what i do. It takes atleast 10-15 minutes or even more & a combination of cleaning spark plug, using choke, giving full throttle etc to start the bike finally. It feels very bad to crank the engine continuously for minutes but I have no choice. However I make sure my every attempt to crank up the starter is of less then 5 seconds as suggested to me by a frnd.
Hence I'm nervous since I know the bike wont start so easily even this time since its nearly a month now since her ignition is turned on. Therefore I seek your advices on this matter & further suggestion if any.

even if you rip the bike at 100kmh you are getting 35 which is not a bad mileage buddy...Originally posted by rajes.india View Postfriends,

i think it will not cause any damage to the engine at riding 90-100kmh... but if we ride 100+ constant ripping the engine will get really hot and as you are doing it daily can cause something...
riding FZ between 80-90 kmh is real fun... ya i know it can easily go upto 105kmh without any lag... but i like to cruise between 80-90 on long rides and normal riding at 70-75kmh...

yes, its a complete fun to cruise in 90s. above 100, bike is struggling...but i didnt feel much heat frm the engine...i used to ride 80 kms everyday and done 8500kms till date within 6 months...i feel am overloading the average powered fz engine...i drive few of my frnds bikes (apache and r15) sometime to office and feel their engine is really happy to rev in 100s but didnt get such feel in my fazer till dateOriginally posted by Binoy View Posteven if you rip the bike at 100kmh you are getting 35 which is not a bad mileage buddy...
