Thinking of taking FZ-S. I heard from a friend that Fazer gives a better mileage, coz the front fairing helps in better aerodynamics. Is this true? Since the fairing is heavier than the naked version?Nope, the fz gives more mileage than fazer,in some cases it is almost same but never more as it is little bit heavy due to fairing, but even this is reduced by the aerodynamic design..more or less this air flow issue is reduced in fz due to less weight & in case you fell down in fazer you have to shell out more money as most of the time the headlight dome is effected.Originally posted by SpeedyKol View PostWhat's the top speed of FZ-S? YES both FZ16 & fzs are same except for colour scheme & small windshield..sigpicBOND BETWEEN 2 LEGS & 2 WHEELS.....CAN SURPASS ANY BOUNDARY....

I saw 2 Fazers yesterday, liked it.It also has got dual horns and the RVMs are much sportier, compared to R15 and FZ. On road is Rs. 81,000. Would want to take the Competition White colour,as it looks majestic. Or should I simply go for the FZ-S? How much is the weight difference between FZ-S and Fazer?

I am not quite sure about the weight difference between FZ-s and Fazer. On Vietnam Yamaha's dealer website, they say 126 vs. 141. I cannot buy this as there is no-way the few bits of plastic (which are very light actually) and a few metallic supports may account for 10% of the whole bike's weight!
Anyway: I would really consider that as non-significant, and the weight of the driver (plus eventual pillion rider) influencing far more on the bike's performance in both acceleration, top speed and fuel consumption (for those who care).
What I can definitely say about the fazer's fairing, owning one, is that not only I find it good looking, that it sports twin headlights which, although I have not done it yet, will allow me in the future to have very efficient twin HID lights, but is essentially very well designed and cuts the wind in a very efficient way: no tiring pressure on the chest during extended high speed ride, and excellent reaction to side winds too, very obvious to who has experience of various bikes.
I do not mean that the FZ's dont' look good, though! Actually, they look VERY good, naked as they are, and give a feeling of more aggressiveness than the more civilized looking Fazer. The cost difference however is unjustifiably high, I find that the metallic supports for this fairing, probably sub-contracted to some really lousy workshop, are absolutely crap fabrication, rusted within weeks (the whole bike rusts, actually, in many other places: general quality is low!), badly welded, and rough as rough can be! Disassembling and re-assembling this fairing is a real PITA, and one can expect a faulty work one day or the other, resulting in high expense for replacing probably expensive parts of this fairing....specially if you have, like me, to import them into Vietnam as no dealer holds any spare parts!Last edited by Lucky Luke; 01-08-2012, 11:10 AM.When I do something stupid, my consolation is to know that I'll do the worse one only once!

What is the price of side fairing of R-15 (which holds the indicator) in case I fall?
On R15 on minor fall no harm to fairing will happen only hard crash will shatter the fairing (personal experience). But in my opinion for city like kolkata there is no other machine more suitable than a pure street naked bike like FZ.HISTORY IS NOT ABOUT WHO IS RIGHT BUT ABOUT WHO WRITES IT.......

engine is back firing.. suggest take it to svc center and show it.. most likely the carburetor AFR tuning is not set correct. Did you or your mechanic fiddled around with the carburetor by any chance or did he put a different jet size in the carburetor when K&N was installed?

FZ:Hard Riding/ Thrashing report
Hi all,
Yesterday, went out with a group of new rider friends and began my tests of pushing my bike to its limit. All gears were shifted at redline, the bike was at its top band near the redline all the time, aggressive braking and acceleration till we hit back mumbai. I was riding with a group of ninja 250R riders hence, just to keep up had to push my bike to the extreme.
Result:-
a) Motul FS 300V oil doing its job brilliantly. At no point did i witness any drop in power or engine overheating or drop in engine oil level. I was quite surprised even when i was pushing her to the redline most of the time, there were no complaints from her end.
b) Fuel Efficiency dropped to its lowest. The mileage due to such thrashing is around 28/29 kmpl. i was expecting such figures anyways coz of insane consistant redlining for near about 120 kms.
c) FFE was doing its job, the bike was hitting its top speed in no time. May be its just me or my bike... but the top end didn't go beyond 107 - 108 kmph. For this ride particularly i had kept the front tire pressure 29 and rear 35 psi. As a result the acceleration figures were quite impressive. Although no way on earth would i beat any ninja but i didn't keep them waiting more than 2 mins whenever they decided to go full throttle.
d) One does feel the inadequacy of power in the top end when riding highways. I agree this bike has been designed as a street fighter but i really feel that with such agressive looks, this bike definitely deserves a higher capacity 200 - 250CC engine from Yamaha. I guess riding along with Ninja or rather keeping up with them made me feel this way.
e) I am not to sure but the right hand shock of the front shock had little bit of oil deposit on the rubber seal. May be it has gone bust... However, there were no signs of the suspension performing badly. I am no stunter and don't do wheelies and stuff so will get it checked later.

I think I saw you on the way yesterday. I was on an orange FZ wearing an A* jacket.Yesterday, went out with a group of new rider friends and began my tests of pushing my bike to its limit. There was a group of Ninja Riders and one FZ that overtook me while on my way to McDonalds Panvel (I was enroute to Pune)
I did notied how the FFE did it job fairly well.I can judge this as I have the stock exhaust on my FZ.The Fast and the Curious kind!!!
