@greenknight : At the last oil change , was the filter changed ? If yes , then what quantity of oil went in ? Because most times , even at SVC , when the filter is changed they put in only 1L of oil , whereas when the filter is changed we need to put in 1.2L ... that 200ml is very important ... Question : why no filter change ?

Anyway , looks like the effects of the high speed run is what caused the level drop . Replace the oil anyway . You mentioned the gear shifts being sticky and hard , how about the engine ? harsh sounding , overheating for short distances and the likes ...

All the above. Got it changed. On a test for the next 1 k. The drained oil was 700 ml. I guess I am going to change my bike. Real sad.

all pointers to fried engine oil ...what grade oil did u put in , semi-synth yes but grade ?

I guess selling the bike over only this is over-reacting , but that's just my opinion ... There's nothing that goes wrong with a bike that cannot be fixed .

Best part is that yamaha factory show room guys say its normal. its supposed to be 700 ml. Anyways I know its an over reaction to sell. Its just been less than 6 months and 10 I km. its 15 w 30

15w30 ? it's very thin oil ... and under some hard riding may get used up faster ... so this oil is yamalube semi-synth ? and what is the new oil you have put in , the same grade ?

This could also be one of the reasons for the oil level drop .

Blast the SVC guys , at 850ml the dipstick shows below minimum and 700ml is a lot below that mark and by no chance is it normal ... try a thicker grade of oil and see , I'm now using 15w50 full synth and have completed 4000kms on it , still running ...

15w30? not surprised. First try to find out what 15W30 means & if you are aware then how you could let SVC guys use that grade? Check manual for proper oil grade. Since you are servicing at factory shop I'm not sure if they really put in 15W30. I service my Fz at Monarch Yamaha st Tilak road never faced any issue. May be you can service there.

My 6th free service is due within a week. What all things should necessarily or mustly be done? Also the handle of my FZ is like jammed sometimes (i.e, not have instant reaction, its a bit lazy), what may be the reason? I've completed 4000 kms approx.

Erm 15W 30 is a wrong grade all together .. the oil will get used up pretty quick... simply change your grade to 15W 50 motul semi synth single esther, costs around 450-500 bucks. buy two cans of 1 ltr... top up the engine 1.2 ltr and aftr say 3000 kms, check the oil level, if low then top it up again that's it... selling off the bike is pushing it.

I would say you were not aware of the whole deal hence, the reaction to your bike is unnecessary rather than do the troubleshoot and report if there is any problem post that..

Yamalube SS is 15W50 all over india....and is good enough for FZ... i am also using the same grade from motul changed after about 4000km....

just top up your oil once with the same grade or better still change the entire oil....
and keep us posted on the quantity of the oil over weeks....

at the same time i would like to mention running fz over long distances at speeds greater than 100-105+ is not adisable as it strains the engine way too much... instead keep the speeds in the 90-100 range....

That's what I tried today. Cruised at 95 kmph for 230km. No signs of decrease over 300 km on the new oil. Might want to switch to fs. But my as is being changed at 1500km since the last three times. And 700 ml after 1600km points to something wrong.
