Also, AFAIK chain and sprocket come as a set (At least it is that way with Bajaj) and it is always advisable that you change both together.

    P.S.: My bike = P220
Mine has about 20K kms on the ODO as of now never replaced brake fluid , the response has not dropped very much , just enough to cause an annoyance ... I can get the chain and sprockets separately from the Yamaha wholesale spares dealer ... He has stock of stuff the regular spares guy doesn't and it is GENUINE too ...

and have you got your chain adjusted? because as far as i can remember you have around 22k on the odo..... and for that the chain and sprockets should be still good.....
From SVC it's a set , but i can source it separately , I just want to know if it is better to change the whole set . I have got the chain adjusted at the last service ... He said it would last till the next one which is due in about 1000kms ... my riding has dropped heavily as I find myself jobless at the moment . but when I do take it out , the noise annoys the crap outta me , so plan to change it ASAP .
People ask me , why are you cribbing about the BHP ? to them I say "MORE is never ENOUGH" xbhp.com

      • HID Info

        Hey ppl

Have read a loads of posts inquiring bout HID's here is some key info you should consider before getting one

        1. Go for Bulb with temperature 4300k, most of the Chinese things you get come only in 6000k and they are too bright for on-comming traffic even with lower beam. 6000k is illegal.

        2. Always go for Digital Ballast, Normal 1c are quite fat as compared to digital 1c and digital 1c have longer life comparative

        3. A 35 watt HID is much brighter then a 55watt halogen bulb. So you are Consuming less power but getting better results with a HID

        4. Very imp - The Ballast and the Bulb both have a limited life period depending on usage. I have done hardcore usage with a number 12hrz night journey and the Ballast lasted me for a Year n half and the Bulb for Year n 9 months. Had to replace both. On the contrary my friend who has the same kit on his FZ is still using the same 2 year old bulb n ballast as his Night time usage is very limited. We had got it installed at same time.

With the 4300k HID night riding has never been this fun. I prefer to do long distance at night and with this light all the sign boards get lit up like some1 has put a spot light on em.

The reflector of FZ is quite nice and it throws the light on the road quite nicely giving one gets good visibility. Have said this b4 and will say so again that the 4300 HID n FZ reflector combination is the best.

Thanks for the info about HID lamps.

Actually, I have a Fazer, not a FZ-16, and in here they are delivered with both lighs on in high and also in low beam. Still the lighting is surprisingly poor, if I compare with my other bike which has just one 55W H4 (plus two 30W other halogen high beams, but for occasional extra light). Before someone asks that question: yes: both are adjusted to the proper beam height. I have not checked what is the power of the present headlight bulbs (???).

"I don't know but I've been told" that using HDI without a projector is not only illegal but also produces a glare that is very unpleasant to other road users. Since you seem to know some about that: Is that right? Does it produce a glare on the FZ-16?

Has anyone fitted HID into the Fazer optics?

Then, a dumb question to all who may know better than me, who doesn't have an idea about those things: would I want/ need two HID projectors for my Fazer, could each one have both high and low beam so that both lights can be on at the same time, as presently the case?

The alternator delivers a good power (125W @ 5,000 rpm. per the workshop manual) and should be able to feed some good power to the headlights. Thus 2 x 35W HID would certainly be superb!
When I do something stupid, my consolation is to know that I'll do the worse one only once!

            hi,

yeah HIDs when put in ill designed reflectors causes glare and as matter of fact any source of light will produce glare.

but the reflectors of FZ-16 are very good and there is very slight oncoming glare when HIDs are used without projectors.

and yes you would need 2 projectors to put in the headlight housing of Fazer. and you can choose for your self whether you want both HIGH and LOW beam in both or one low and one highbeam....

but remember one thing projectors without HID is useless.....

there wasn't any recommended kms interval , it is supposed to be changed once in two years according to the manual . But I guess now from experience I can say that it's better to change the oil also when we change the disc pads .

i Didn't understand this so then wont the filament of a 35watt bulb burn out if 125w goes in at 5000rpm i am an electrical engineering student just starting clear my doubts

There is RR unit (Rectifier Regulator unit), which converts the AC voltage from alternator to DC and limits the maximum current fed to the battery. So no matter how much current generated, the final output to the electricals is limited.

HID's in the FZ's stock reflector glare very much!and yes using HID' in a stock Halogen reflector is illegal.

you just need to have a single Bi Xenon Projector with HID on your low beam reflector.Leave you High beam as it is.

HIDs dont get brighter as the Temperature increases. The reason temp above 4300K isnt recommended is because our Human eye sees lesser light as the temp increases.

Digital ones arent outright better..esp the chinese ones they dont make a big diff.

a 35w HID will pull up a huge amount of power at start up but will eventually consume lesser than a 55W halo once its lit up

                    • totally new to the HID concept. This is what I understood from the last few concept.
                      1. Use a 35w 4300k HID lamp.
                      2. shouldn't use stock reflector, change to projector.

Are these correct? How much would such a setup cost?
Also how are HIDs in low beam for the incoming traffic?

                        quite correct....

such a setup can cost you anywhere from 1500 to 10000rs. depending on the projector and HID in it....

I also have a setup which i want to sell. it is a p220 projector inside an fz16 housing.

HID with projector is a total bliss for oncoming traffic....

                        • Guys,
my air filter is currently fitted straight onto the carb. i learnt that this setup is not advisable. what else can i do? joel tells me that i need to have an extension of 6-7 inches made before fitting the filter. but will there be any space?? also, the stock airbox hole is oval whereas the filter is circular. how do i manage that?? I dont plan on quitting after coming this far. pls help me out guys. because more than anything, this is a huge learning curve for me (being a budding engineer).
also, even without upjetting, my engine is running fine. no backfiring, no white plug-ends. no power loss. what does that mean?? that upjetting isnt necessary?
                          pls help me out guys.

upjetting is used when you need that extra slight bump in power....

regarding the oval to circular fitment and the extension... you can get a jugaad made using some iron pipes and m seal....

Its the rc 1060 from k&n.

The bike showed all the signs of rich mixture when i used 117.5 jets (next big size as advised by joel). it used to buck after 6000rpm and power was inconsistent. On the stock jets it runs beautifully and also revs freely. So, can i leave it in stock and upjet only after i fit the FFE from joel (by next month)

And, I don't understand what jugaad means. Can you pls share more details.

                                Thanks RanjithMN, but:

This is not a FZ but a Fazer (very different double lights), and as I said, it is rigged in such a way that both lights are on while on high beam as well as in low beam. Funny enough, though, this does not give the lighting one could have expected: my wife's Honda "Air Blade" gives a better light!
I quite like this "double" setup, however, and would like to keep it as such, if possible, but use HID lamps and projectors for better night vision.
The reason why I am asking so much information from you guys is that this equipment is not available here (bulbs: yes, projectors: no) , and will have to be imported. So, I better be pretty sure of wat I will be ordering!

Then, the question is, basically: can I have two projectors, each one giving both high and low, or are these projectors "specialized" for either high or low, but not both? If thi may be the case: can two projectors, one for each "specialty" be fitted side by side in the optic (I have seen such projectors on some bike: they are very small)?

Annex questions: brand? type? recommended power? others info you can think of....???
