i hope you have taken care of the following things:Hi guys,
My bike is more than 3 years old and has more than 24K kms.
There were no major issues I could find. But there has been a drop in acceleration. Recently, I changed the chain and sprocket set. Changed the rear tyre as well - Dunlop TG 140/70.
At this stage, apart from the regular maintenance schedule, what are the other things that we have to check/observe/change.
Is there a maintenance period for the shocks?
And also I have observed that my bike performs much better in cooler climate than in hotter climate. Have been seeing this issue for the past few months. If I start off on a nice cool morning, the bike is fine. But during a hot after noon, the bike seems to lose power, especially, when on a long ride.
I have been using Motul 300V 15W/50 FS oil for quite some time now, ever since the odo showed 13K kms.
Would like your inputs....
1) Change the air filter as per the recommended interval of 12,000 kms.
2) Check the condition of the spark plug and replace if necessary.
3) for better acceleration figures and higher top end, can keep the tire pressure f- 29 and r-35. The ride becomes bit bumpy though.
4) i am not too sure what are the major changes with acceleration and cornering if you have changed from stock to dunlop but it will affect the handling for sure.
5) Our bikes being carbureted one, are susceptible to major changes in temperature & altitude as the AFR ratio goes for a toss. i have witnessed the same with my bike here in Mumbai where at night, when the temperatures are hitting 18- 15 'C, the overall figures have drastically improved. If you are not at all happy with the bikes performance then i suggest get the bikes carb tuned from the SVC.
My bike's front right shock gave away during the last long ride that's after clocking almost 17, 000 kms. Will get both front fork rubber seal replaced and new fork seal oil filled up soon. Besides that i don't think there is any major checking that you have to do.

I bought the FFE from Joel, Race Concepts and believe me his pipes do deliver what he promises. P.S. :- Daytona kit is crap!!.. For pricing and shipping details please get in touch with him at [email protected]
I suggest ask joel to ship the new batch of FFEs which are of better build and made of better quality of steel. Atleast me and RanjithMN had issues of rusting with our pipes. not much of a headache though.. a simple and cheap chrome plating finished the whole job.
i have written extensively about my experience in FFE upgrade on this thread. suggest you to search posts for the same under my profile. here is one of the links for the pictures: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...16-a-1226.html

The R15 is truly a gem of a machine, from all aspects.Though the black and blue, looks fab,I chose the Fazer.Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Postyour welcome speedy....
although i want to know the reason of deciding on fazer then the r15 apart from budget constraints if any...
Now Why I chose Fazer:
Budget: Coz am a 21yr old student studying MBA,paying from my pocket fully.
Waiting Period: Black,Blue: 1-1.5 months. Red: 3 months.Hate waiting.
Mileage: Can't afford 35kmpl..met a person at the dealership,who owns a 4 yr old V1.He said he's getting 35kmpl.
Servicing Charges: If I pay EMIs worth Rs.6.5k every month, then if I fall with this baby, fixing it will burn a deeper hole in pocket.(Frankly).
No Center Stand. Can't afford a paddock worth Rs.2000
Spares are a bit costlier than FZ,as I have been told.
Rear Seat: The dealer sat pillion during test drive. He had difficulty climbing up,so neither my dad/mom/gf can get up...neither can I risk a fall while they try to get up. Moreover,I will be in constant fear that the thighs might scratch the sides of the pillion seat, because of jeans button, salwar, etc.Am a BIG scratch freak! Love my machines so much!
Tyres: I know this is stupid, but the R15 tyres are superb and road-hugging,still from the looks department,FZ's tyres look fatter.
BTW, R15's tyres are 90/80 and 130/70,whereas FZ's are 100/80 and 140/60.
Tacho: I love the digital tacho of FZ,(personal biasness)
Mirrors: Fazer's mirrors are the best in the Yamaha range and those can't be fitted on R15,as said by the dealer.
Looks: R15 looks much sportier, specially the rear end. Fazer looks bulky.Love the bulky appearance more.
Shock absorbers: FZ's shock absorbers are much fatter than R15's..
Highways: I am very much confined to the city...highways are a strict no-no from my family.
Two questions now:
How do I shift the number plate from the visor to somewhere below the headlamps? Can the dealers do it? Would it affect the bike anyhow?
Shifting the single beam to dual beam can be done by the service men during the delivery? Hated that always.

what you can do is get a stickered number plate on the front mud guard....
many service centers do the single beam to the dual beam mod at the time of the delivery but just confirm it once before buying the bike....Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009

The dealer has said,if there are not much deliveries to do that day,he would be able to do it.Let's see.I would hate a local mechanic to rip apart my new baby!
Stickered number plate would attract a lot of cops na? Since now the HSRP plate has come out? If I make a sticker, where do I put it? on the visor or on the front bumper?

@SPEEDY which dealership you went to?and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.
#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
#overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road
(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

Buddy if u though the R15s rear seat was small then FZs is a Miniature. Believe me almost all the ppl who sit on the rear seat of my bike always say 1 thing....isnt the back seat small. And my Gal completely hates the bike for that small seat.
and believe me the bike is not friendly for 1 side seating wen women r wearing saree....there is no place where they can rest both their feet and as it tapers a bit upward the passenger sitting sideways is always leaning on to ur back.
The bike is not at all Parents being transported friendly.
And as you have mentioned u r gonna ride it in City only i should point out that those Rear View mirrors become quite a pain in the traffic. Fazers m talking bout
Disclaimer - i have nothing against the bike but wat i have stated are true facts experienced by me for 2 years i have had it. I completely love it for wat it is.
TO ALL -
Got the oil Seal on both the front shock absorbers changed. The left 1 was leaking slightly, 32000km n i thought its better to change both of em now that the time has come to change.
A single Oil Seal costs Rs 157
Veedol Shock Absorber oil Rs 55 for 250ml, a single shock absorber took 2 cans
man they r huge compared to any other bike in this segment

Will get carb checked. My shocks seem hard now; need to get that checked as well. There is a difference in handling with the new Dunlop tyre. The rear feels heavier. But thats because of the added weight. Otherwise the tyre is very good. Grip is excellent. No probs with stability as well.Your bike is a part of you....

Hello everyone. Has been a long time since my last login to the site. Recently I took up airbrushing as a hobby and I have just completed a work on the front panel that covers headlight on my fazer. Here is a pic. Yet to be completed, a little bit of repairs to do.Last edited by surampudijagadeesh; 01-13-2012, 09:25 AM.BreaklessBiker

I hate carrying backpacks btw! Such a nice bike and no storage space? God! Can't I lay the papers under the seat somehow?
