yeah i'v it got ported. couldn't talk much with joel as he was busy. but he did give a affirmative response when i mentioned 'bout the tappet adjustment & the power drop.

came across that couple days back. so my suggestion

pls help me out on this - got the disk pads changed few days back. now when i ride there's rubbing sound. observed the disk/rotor gets very hot (say even after a 2km ride). is this alright since the pads are new? or should i get it checked?

got it fixed locally. had to do with the calipers.

saw a fz with cbr rear tyre. it looks too big for the bike & kinda didn go well. even though PSD has the same profile, unlike this, doesn't look like a bulk of rubber.
cbr tyre for fz = nicht nicht

        hey buddy
The rotor disc getting hot is a normal thing after getting the brake pads changed.....ma mechanic had told me it will happen as brake pads are new after some wear they will come back to normal

don't know from where exactly what should i do guys
My engine oil is Yamalube mineral done 1300KM on it and bikes almost 4.6K

            • Gearshift problems

              Hi,

My bike has done 35K kms. Of lately, i am having a tough time shifting gears. For example, When i try to shift a cog down from 2nd to neutral, It inadvertantly lands in 1st. And the shift too feels hard sometimes, feels like it did not shift fully.

I am guessing it is due to clutch plates wearing out (never replaced until now) but just wanted to confirm it.

              Any ideas?

Thanks v much for your replies !

                I have the same thing!!!
I have looked all round and cannot see any rubber too close from a source of heat! Breathers are all OK, no mark on any rubber in the vicinity of the engine, but I still have that smell after a "hot" ride....!???!?
Is that a common thing for most here???
When I do something stupid, my consolation is to know that I'll do the worse one only once!

                    Hi Asim,
The list i would go through if my bike would have completed 35,000 kms:

                    1) Replace the clutch plates (600-700 bucks)
                    2) replace the clutch and accelerator cables(100-300 bucks)
                    3) if you have not then replace the chain and sprockets (under 3k)
                    4) check the condition of the spark plug (150-300 stock plug)
                    5) replace the air filter every 12k kms(270 bucks)
                    6) check the condition of break pads, replace if necessary then replace (300-500 bucks)
                    7) Replace the front disk brake fluid with new DOT3/4 brake oil.(200 bucks)
                    8) check the condition of the piston rings, usually one replaces the rings post 30k kms (don't know the pricing)

i think taking care of the list above should keep your bike good, rev happy and new for another 35-40k kms

                    cheers

Sounds more like your clutch does not fully de-clutch than any sign of wear of the plates, which would de-clutch more than you wish in starting slipping!
I would suggest that you check the play of your handle (should be no more than a few millimeters before you feel that you are de-clutching: all the elements there also get worn), and also the movement of the clutch lever on the engine, which should also have a very limited play. An excessive play in either of them would mean that you do not de-clutch enough even with handle fully pushed, which would then make your gear shift more difficult.
I would also suggest that you have your clutch plates checked (35 k. km: could be about time, depending on your driving) and eventually replaced before you find yourself stuck down between two slopes that your bike cannot climb anymore due to worn our plates!

90% agreed with the here-above (specially: replace cables!!!), but at the exception of the piston rings. Unless the engine is burning oil, IF loss of compression, a valve grinding comes first! Otherwise: leave the engine alone.
I would also add to this list:
                      9) get a torough carburetor cleaning and replace fuel filter (and check inside of tank for rust or dust in the bottom)
                      10) check/ replace battery
                      11) which should have been already done many times: when changing oil (hopefully he is using FS): also change oil filter
....and the list could go on, depending of bikes condition!

                      • FFE Report post 500 kms

                        Hi All,

couldn't wait for long hence did short burst of rides to Lonavla and Kashid to test me FF exhaust. Its a long one so grab a bag of chips and some cold drink and then start reading.

                        My report:

The bike can now easily pull from 20kmph on 5th gear all the way to the top. Earlier 25 kmph was the max limit below which the stock bike would start knocking and jerking. I guess since the resonator system is no longer there as it was in the stock exhaust, the gases move out much easily and this is the end result. As mentioned earlier she now feels much more eager and angry and growling. Although, post 500 kms the sound has reduced considerably.

Earlier, stock FZ used to be out of breath post 85-90 kmph and would be struggling post 105 kmph. Now post FF Exhaust installation, the acceleration is insanely fast. She happily hits 90-95 kmph without losing breath and does 108-110kmph without much of a problem. But that's the max she can hit. The FFE has definitely increased the top end but not to a level i was expecting. But then i realised, i forgot to remove the DB Killer while doing my rides so the actual power gains are yet to be tested. As Joel had promised, bike's overall power output has become much more linear.

However, the most important part as anyone would be (being an indian) curious about - MILEAGE?? so here comes the shocker: i was literally busy thrashing my bike to the rev limit throughout these rides as with the FFE one just wouldn't want to do 75 - 80 kmph, did mix riding in the city. Usual gear changes on an average 6-7000 rpm. And guess what the mileage never dropped below 40+ kmpl. All this with the non stop thrashing me bike received .

Lets give you guys a clearer picture, i did a tank up of 7 ltrs for lonavla ride with reserve fuel already there. came back to mumbai and rode around till the bike fuel indicator hit reserve. The trip meter was showing 295 kms. So the calculation of mileage - 295km/7ltrs(actual fuel consumption)= 42.14 kmpl!! So if anyone asks me if it was worth installing the FFE.. HELL YEAH!! come to think of it in a way i am already getting returns on the money invested to procure FFE.

Please Note: I have done all these tests with the DB Killer on. I completely forgot to remove it during the long ride as me and my pal were getting late. I guess i should see better figures in power gains and FE once i do further tests with the DB Killer off...

RanjithMN... if you can share your report post FFE installation in this thread... i guess it would help me and others understand the power gains better..

as for me the next stop would be the Big bore kit and volumetric porting... just with the FFE alone me bike's characteristics have changed so i am pretty confident that 180 cc will make the bike capable of doing 120+ kmph all day long without losing breath..just what i need for my crazy touring appetite.

hope this log was not boring and informative enough for you all.

                        Cheers

                        • Hey guys,
Just got my bike back from service yesterday night and I can safely say the SVC(Pacer Bangalore) has done a STELLAR job..this is the first time I am in awe of the work they have done..the bike was vibrating because the bike wasn't serviced for the last 3000KMS including run-in of the big bore
They tightened the engine bolts and chain, etc. the total bill came to 690(Last free service).
It feels crazy now and feels even more like a rocket..could be due to chain tightening

@shv18 Thanks for the info man..looking forward to getting the exhuast, just waiting for the fitting to be revised.

                          PS:Happy Diwali to all!!

@rohan_5013: not a problem just posting what i had promised... can you share with us the figures post big bore installation? as in :

                            a) 0-60 kmph = secs = engine rpm
                            b) 0-95-100 kmph = secs = engine rpm
                            c) max speed attained post big bore installation?
                            d) overall characteristics of the bike in terms of grunt, low end performance and top end performance??

are you also planning to go for the bigger carburetor or keeping your stock carburetor and let joel do the AFR tuning?

                            thanks and cheers

                                Cheers

Splendid work penning down your experience with the FFE
