      • I own Uni since Sep 2007, after using it 14 months i feel like it is losing little power and mileage dropped to 45-47 from 55-57. I am using premium fuel. Honda service people not interested in solving problem so i decide to do it myself. My machine has clocked only 7800 km on odo and i generaly don't go over 60 kmph. Kindly suggest me what need to be done to get it back in original performance.

Hi - It's bad to hear that the millage has dropped and the bike is under powered . Here are few things that i can suggest .

1 ) A neat water wash by removing all the covers ( Not necessarily )
2 ) Carbo cleaning ( Get it done by a known mechanic , Works with honda bikes )
          3 ) Engine Oil Change
4 ) Take it to the service center only for Engine Tuning ( Do not inform them about the oil change and the carbo cleaning .

Forgot - AIR filter cleaning as well

Once the engine is tuned ask one of them to sit with you for Millage testing (On road - Insist for it ). They will have a funnel type of bottle in which they measure petrol and connect it directly to carbo . The mech coming with you will hold the bottle with a string . It will determine how well they have tuned the vehicle .

That'a all i can think of now . I am also using a HONDA Uni . Its done 1100 Km and milage is around 55 ~ 59 . All the best

sounds good. except, I suggest you should inform those guys about the changed engine oil. Otherwise they will chagne the oil again as a routine. Also you may experiment with fuel pumps. consult your friend about a reliable outlet. bad fuel can effect upto 3-4 kmpl of milage.

Mine is a Apr2005 Uni. Few months ago I was getting around 50kmpl with permium fuels. now that has reduced to 47kmpl. I am curious to know what kind of milage is observed by other 3-4 yr old uni owners?

Well said. Just to add few points. Along with the carb wash and engine oil change, take the bike to any good pollution checking station, and ask them to check for the fuel consumption along with the co (they have the equipment with them). They can very well tune your bike (if the person is Knowledgeable enough). Also don't forget to check the Spark plug. My uni has just clocked 16,156.9

                • Thanks pradeep30, rockrider, kaushik_man...

I now changed fuel pump outlet from Bharat Petroleum to IndianOil, change is visible bike is getting better mileage.

Plannig to change spark plug as Honda's manual also recommend the same. Tightning transmission chain, changing engine oil, getting carb/air filter cleaned.

I hope this will pump up the performance level back to optimum.

                  • @modifii: I don't think you need to change the spark plug. usually the life of a spark plug is around 15K kms. since you have clocked nearly 8K you can get it checked (for deposits at the tip) by a good mech or even the service stn guys.

Also quality of petrol varies one pump to another. meaning the one BP outlet may give better fuel than the other BP outlet. More on that will be OT and will need a different thread

Yes i got it (s.plug) checked by service station guy he said the gap was not proper in plug so he adjusted it. There was no carbon deposit found on plug but alteration in gap making me think about new plug.

                        • Hi all

Quite disappointed to say that my Uni has dropped out from the usual millage. She is run around 1300 Km now and first service is done . Before the service it used to give around 59 ~ 60 . I have not checked the millage immediately after the service due to various reasons . Now when i checked i am getting around 42 Km /L (There has been no much change in my driving style as except that i do go up to 60 kmh these days and occationally cross the mark and reach till 80 (very occationally) Dont think that should effect so much around 15 Km reduction). Mhhh !! i am sure that there is some problem with the tuning as all the other factors seems to be ok . I am taking her to the service center soon .Will update you people after i have a check done .

                          • @Koushik: Ive updated my stock bulb. Im using a philips 60-55w bulb. Have tried the white bulb but would advise you to stick with a yellow 60w bulb. No probs with the upgrade. If u want to go to 90-100w then u might need so modification. Coil rewinding should help (Dont knw wether itz possible on a uni).

@Pradeep: Atleast ur get 40+. I own a 6 month old uni. Im gettin an avg of 20-25 km. Dont knw whtz wrong. Itz done 9000 km. Have to get it checked soon. I use it mostly for tours & not for city ridin. The avg reduces by approx 5km after every long ride. Does nyone knw whtz wrong.

You man , you are scaring me now 20 ~ 25 , that's horrible .You can buy an yamaha for that , it will give you more than that . well my case i guess a tuning should help , don't know . will update you all . Not getting time to get that done that's the problem . Well i have heard that uni gives atleast 50 in city from most of my friends and from lots of forums .Thats the only reason why took the uni . My TVS Fiero which is still there with me gives around 46 .Its 33 Km done and still going good .

Hey bro, thanks for the info. As per your problem, I have never ever heard of such a mileage drop in Uni. Please check your bike to a well know mechanic as soon as possible. Following are few thing you must check -
                                1) Wash the carb (both slow and main jet with air pressure)
                                2) Wash fuel tank (drain the water from the bottom of the tank)
                                3) Check spark plug - If needed change it along with the power cord
                                4) Check clutch plates
                                5) Check air filter
                                6) Try to change to a better fuel pump for better petrol
                                7) Change engine oil on every 1200 - 1500 Kms, and don't use any synthetic or semi-synthetic, just use mineral oil. Like - Elf Moto 4 Gold, Motul 3000 4T (not sure about the name), etc.

I also used to be a tourer like you. But my uni never dropped below 50Km/pl till date. Later let us know, whether all the problems has been solved or not. Best of luck
