Re: Honda CBR 250R
Hey problem here, this morning while heading for office my CBR did not started and cranking failed with a typical sound. The most scary part was the blinking of ABS light and speedometer with some number while cranking the motorcycle. I cannot explain the sound with words so did a very quick and short video. Though I am suspecting battery/spark plug to be the culprit but nothing sure. Bike has completed 25.5K in 4.5 years.

i don't think its a battery or plug issue.Originally posted by hypheni View PostHey problem here, this morning while heading for office my CBR did not started and cranking failed with a typical sound. it probably is related to the starter clutch. take it to the svc and get it checked further.

Looks like battery concked off! If battery is okay, check its terminals. They might be loose.Originally posted by hypheni View PostHey problem here, this morning while heading for office my CBR did not started and cranking failed with a typical sound. I was due for a battery change and was about to change it on this Friday but it happened just today. Any idea why ABS is flashing and speedo showing some numbers?Originally posted by arvstreetracer View PostLooks like battery concked off! If battery is okay, check its terminals. They might be loose.
And one more quick thing. CBR seems to have 6AH battery, if the same 6AH is not available locally can I change with some others, if yes what would be the compatible one?Last edited by hypheni; 01-31-2018, 02:02 PM.

APBTX 9R the same battery with 8Ah rating that was used by leech,Originally posted by hypheni View PostHey thanks to both of you for quick response. Here's his post. Amaron makes BTZ7L which is a direct fit for the CBR 250
It isn't the starter clutch. The battery does prime the fuel pump, but the voltage isn't high enough to crank the starter.Originally posted by s1d View Posti don't think its a battery or plug issue.

Low battery would show all sort of discos on a modern bike dash, the needles behave strangely, random numbers pop up, though mostly it's related to low battery voltage. But just as a side note, random errors and electronics behaving strangely can even happen if wires are frayed due to pest infestation, but that topic is for another dayOriginally posted by hypheni View PostHey problem here, this morning while heading for office my CBR did not started and cranking failed with a typical sound. Start off with battery voltage and use another battery and observe if she cranks fine. You can also use a multimeter to check your stock battery voltage in case you want to get to the root of the problem. Less than 12.3 and less means the battery is weak and cannot provide the juice.
Keep your observations posted.
Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
THE END

Re: Honda CBR 250R
This was the thing. A dead battery. Yesterday bought a new Amaron 6AH battery while returning home and fitted this morning. It's fixed now. So what I understood is that even when the headlights with high beam and indicators can lit on low voltage battery, cranking need more juice. And of-course now I am accustomed with the discos of ECU operating on low voltage.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostAPBTX 9R the same battery with 8Ah rating that was used by leech,

This stock battery served me 4.5years starting from Aug 2014 and I was about to change it this friday but what a time of failure, just at the edge. The big savior was it happened just at my house while starting for the day.
Cheers!!

Re: Honda CBR 250R
hypheni - I remember asking you to change the battery a month back. The problem with using a old, dying battery is that it puts extra load on the stator coil, which has to work harder to charge the battery, and support the electricals too. Unlike mechanical bits, you won't notice the wear and tear on electrical parts until one day they fail.
Afaik, the early 2011 CBR came with 6AH battery, I got my 2012 with a 7AH, and then upgraded to a 9AH in 2014.Last edited by leech; 02-01-2018, 01:05 PM.

Re: Honda CBR 250R
Hey guys, can anyone recommend a tyre set for city use? I am considering the Pirellis but Im worried they might be way too susceptible to punctures. What are other alternatives?
Also I searched the thread for engine oil recommendations and there seem to be very conflicting views. Which engine oil should I be going for?
P.S. - almost entirely city use

For city use, MRF and TVS's are good [zapper/zoom] for the oil stick to the honda, or if not available of the same grade. get the shell ultraOriginally posted by shortrider26 View PostHey guys, can anyone recommend a tyre set for city use? Re: Honda CBR 250R
I am also due for a tyre change. Planning for Michelin but that would cost way more than MRF for budget use. I like Michelin pattern and radial-ness. Not yet decided which one I will go for, probably will be deciding at tyre store.Originally posted by shortrider26 View PostHey guys, can anyone recommend a tyre set for city use? And for Engine oil, IMO Motul would be best in class, then Shell. But Honda oil is what manufacturer recommended and no harm to use the same in normal riding condition. I would suggest you to experiment on your own and try to find out which engine oil suites your riding style. If you are currently on Honda oil, change it to Shell/Motul whatever fits into your budget and switch to the other one later point of time.
