Hello Guys,

This is Mehul Bhavsar from Vapi, Gujarat. I bought a 2012 Hyosung GT650R white color brand new in May 2014 from a Kolhapur Dealer. I like this forum since it helps me a lot to understand GT650R. I have had some issues since the purchase of this bike and it helped me in resolving the same. And so joined as a member in xBhp.

Hi abygrover. Yes the GT650R is a looker but that's just about it.
Besides quality issues, technical skills of the SVC isn't too good.I would go about saying that roadside mechanics provide better service. If you still want to go ahead then fine but get a used 2011,2012 model as they will fetch a good price for around 3Lacs.

A used SBK would cost you upward of 8-9L. And its very difficult to find a good deal.
But now in this range, you have got pretty good bikes i.e. z800, street triple etc. Do have a look at those. And ninja 650 is also there.

Can you guys tell me where to look for used super bikes and how to make sure that they are legal imports and all the papers are in place. I am ready to stretch my budget a bit if it is worth it.

the GT650R is probably the cheapest 650cc bike you can buy that will make you feel like you're riding a supersport bike.

there are a whole bunch of quality issues. so you might want to consider buying a used one instead.

or better yet, buy yourself a used Z800 if you're willing to stretch your budget or a CBR400RR if you want to stay within.

either way... how experienced are you with "big" bikes?
i wouldn't recommend that you buy a 650cc bike if you've stayed away from motorcycles for 10 years.
specially since you mentioned you stayed away because of an accident.

You mentioned you don't want a tourer so i'm assuming you're not going to be mile munching.
How about considering the soon to be launced KTM RC390 or a Kawasaki Ninja 300. (both have ABS)

Slow and steady may be a good idea. You could always step up to a bigger bike a year or so down the line.

Bro, I beg to differ. GT only looks like a racer whereas in reality it is not. It's heavy to maneuver, Center of Gravity is too high, too heavy, the handle bar touches the tank almost while turning plus the vibrations. The torque is unevenly spread and unpredictable. Anyways you should be happy, that's what matters most. Don't get overwhelmed by only the looks...Go for quality and performance.

GT is a great bike bro. However, are you sure you want to buy a new GT? Quality is not very bad . But it not worth a near 6Lac rupee price tag either. It is a good second hand purchase. But going for a new one is something that I will leave on you.

Save up a little more and go for a Z800 or Street Triple. You will be much happier guy. The maintenance costs are similar and not to forget the 3 and 4 cylinder growl. If you want a Sporty machine then wait for a RC390 or Pick up a good used superbike.

Really appreciate your feedback and a prompt revert. I do understand that the quality is a bit low but I do not want to put for N650R as it is more of a tourer and I would really like to buy a racer. And in the current scenario, there is no alternate to GT650R, correct me if I am wrong

But before deciding for Hyosung please discuss with the owners offline( Online won't reveal much) about the service and parts quality of the bike. Believe me I'm not trolling here or playing spoil sport but think twice before throwing your money into water. If you wish only to ride to nearby CCDs, Dhabas then you may go for this bike. Go for Ninja650 if possible. The quality difference is just too much. If you still have doubt open the front seat of GT650R and see the parts and wiring quality inside. Even a splendor is of better quality. End of the it's your money and your decision. P.S : I owned a GT and hence the opinion.

Hello everyone! Though I am pretty old to xbhp and have been to G2Gs but have not been riding bikes since last 10 years. I had met with an accident and was barred by family and especially my girlfriend (now my wife ) for driving 2 wheelers. Now, I have finally been permitted to buy a bike. The only one I found to be of my choice was none other than GT650R . I test drove it yesterday and it handled like a dream. I didn't feel like that I was driving a bike after so long. In a few minutes, I had the courage to open the throttle and the speed must have crossed 120k easily ( cannot ascertain since the odometer wire was pulled out by the dealer). But I must say that I was a bit disappointed on the braking part. Was it because it was a brand new bike? Also, after driving for about 8 - 10 kms, my right thigh started burning up with the immense heat and I noticed that it had turned red. One thing to mention is that the temperature in Delhi was soaring at above 41 deg that day. Needless to say that The bike is a stunner. It had a custom exhaust which made the best of the sound notes.

I would like to ask a few questions:
1. On-road price is approx 5.35 lacs. Can any discount be negotiated on this price?
2. Should one buy riding gear from the dealer or are these available at lower prices elsewhere?
3. Should one go for the after market exhaust?

Looks are a start. On the weight front, making the bike lighter would require them to inventive. For That change the price would become a spoil sport, unless they have something that is going to blow away immediate competition with the price rise, they should be working towards making it affordable. Competition is building up from Bajaj, KTM, Hero, et all.

That's indeed a beautiful paint job. Hyosung should also start working on making the bike lighter (and may be, a tad bit compact as is the trend these days).
