  • R15 v2 service help

    Hello guys,
I'm new to this forum, please excuse my noobish terms but i need help with my r15 v2.

Its been more than 5 months since i last did my service. My bike is 3 years old.

I nees to change the following :
    1 brake pads
2 both the tyres (not changed since i bought the bike)
    3 engine oil
    4 spark plug
    5 oil filter
    6 air filter
    7 chain sprocket set

Please suggest me how should i go about this. Shall i go to yamaha service center and tell them to do all the work? I dont trust them. They do a lot of shady stuff.
Or shall i get the parts from them and ask the local mechanic to change stuff ?
Also apart from yamaha services center where can i get original parts for my bike?
    I stay in Mumbai.

I would appreciate some expert advice on this.

    Thank you ☺️

Wow!! Did the stock bore piston last this much long? You are from Bangalore. Bangalore ASC literally s*cks. But, how you you maintained it throughout the ownership years. Mine just 9 & odds, already started tappet noise in hot conditions. Don't know how much will it last!!

          Front pads 880/-,
          Rear pads 960/-,
Front tyre: MRF Nylogrip Zapper FY1 90/80-R17 2500/- Approx.
Rear tyre: MRF Revz S 130/70-R17 3200/- Approx.
          Engine Oil: Yamalube 10w40 450/- (2000km~) or Motul 300v 10w40 1035/- (5000km~)
          Spark Plug: NGK CR8E or CR9E 100/- or NGK Iridium CR8EIX 650/- (25000km untouched)
          Oil Filter: 150/-
          Air Filter: 240/-
          Chain Sprocket Set: 3000/- Approx.
While changing the sprockets it is good to replace the wheel bearings (if necessary).

Now, do one thing, go to service after changing the tires from a good tyre shop, tell the service guy to replace the parts except the Engine oil & Spark plug, after service while billing, buy an Oil Filter. Go to a reputed mechanic, ask him to replace engine oil (motul 300v) with oil filter, and also to replace stock plug to that NGK Iridium plug. (my opinion)

Motul 300v is really very good engine oil. You will feel that after clocking 100-200km. Iridium plug will improve the ignition, bike will be smooth & more crisp at throttle response.

Thank you soo much bro.. this cleared a lot of stuff. i got my tires on for 5k both with fixing. the mechanic told me to buy other stuff as well which includes
            1) front disk (As it was totaly gone)
            2) front caliper ( the Yamaha service center guy said it can be repaired so no need to buy a new one which will cost around 3K)
            3) rear brake pads
            4) front master cylinder ( Same scene as front caliper, yamaha guy said it can be repaired. this one cost 2.5K)
            5) coolant
6)some drum which i forgot (Sorry)
            7) chain kit
            8) Oil and air Filter
i already bought these stuff apart from caliper and master cylinder for 4.5K

now im worried about the service charges from Yamaha.

engine oil (motul 5100.let me know if this is a good one) and spark plug ill get it done from local mechanic.

            Thank you

I never visit svc most of the works are done by me.
Never faced tappets issue. Last adjustment was done 70k kms back.
Bike is 1.32 lakh kms old now.
              Motul 300v is garbage period...

Hahahahaha! I for one am well aware of your dislike towards 300v based on our past conversations but this still cracked me up.

By the way, after next 3000 KMs, I am planning to switch my 2016 R15S from Yamalube FS 10W40 to some other FS oil only.

Because 300v is logically an overkill and the result highly varies from bike to bike, the obvious options keeping the grade in check are -
                  -Shell Adv. Ultra 10W40 FS
                  And
                  -Motul 7100 10W40 FS

If I remember you have used even the "Lal Ghoda" type oils too, so out of these two, what will you suggest?

PS: Yamalube works great in every condition for my bike and my riding style, I'm just changing to see if I can increase the drain interval from 3000 KMs to a little more keeping same riding style with any other oil.

                  Regards.

I don't have any clue if this lube is okay for O-ring chains. PFA the image of the chain lube attached.

Does any of you have ever came across this chain spray? If not, should i again get it cleaned from reputed place using a reputable chain spray, don't wanna damage the O-rings!

                    Thanks!

The green thing you mentioned is what iam using in all my bikes.
Its unbranded and it doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. Its the best type of chain lube you can ever get for your chain. Please refer to some old superbike Haynes manuals. They clearly mention 90 grade gear oil for lubing and diesel for cleaning.

The logic is simple. The more the oil inside the engine the more the stresses are spread and longer the oil life and higher the durations.
No offense to Yamaha lovers R15 has an engine derived out of a piddly moped with 950ml(without filter change) of oil to be used.
You do the maths if you really think you can stretch it beyond 3000 kms.
Again "FS means 10000 kms oil drain" with 250ml top ups every 2000 kms" supporters please spare me the knowledge.
Have seen enough split engines before making the statement mentioned above. Didn't go through Google reviews or company claims.
Call it arrogance /sarcasm/hypocrisy/narcissism or any posts that can be designated to me. I would still say anything above 3000 kms drain interval is administering slow poison to your engine.

And another thing. 300v is not jaso or sae recognized oil. I see guys here wearing Snell dot and ISI helmets. So why this racism towards your engine by feeding it an oil not recognized for road use??
300v is an ultra thin oil that's fit for track use where you compromise with durability and very less usage of clutch. On the streets and in traffic you use 300v and expect engine life to not take a hit. Wow demands are high

                            Thanks for the reply mate.

3000 KMs has been the upper limit I've set for myself since my 2009-2015 FZ days, I could literally feel the engine crying for an oil change in last 500 KMs for both the bikes, little lesser in case of R15 for some reason. Guess I'll keep that pattern intact for now, just wanted to have a second opinion.

*I had an oil change 5 days ago and the drained Yamalube which was run for 3100 KMs still looked pretty viscous to me though.

You make some really good points, cheers.

                            Regards.

The oil may have looked viscous but under operation the film layer on mating parts will be thin and that's where the engine takes a beating. Ever since we moved to unleaded petrol the oils have less to no amount of zinc phosphates in them. That's a key ingredient for saving engines under stress.
As it is i have little faith on these exotic oils that companies sell. I throw them Out as soon as I can justify an impending oil change.

Got it. I'm pretty sure the oil was unusable in that state, because the engine got pretty harsh by the end.

Thanks for your time buddy, always appreciated.
