Guys, I took my R15 to the SVC yesterday and they are quoting 30K for the repair!! And after insurance claim I would have to pay around 7k. Ain't 30k on the higher side? Should I go to the insurance company and have things double checked? The mechanic said 50% claim for the fiber parts and 60% for the metal ones. Another R15 owner at the service center whispered me that he got 100% claim for the metal parts( He got his tank changed twice, with 100% cover.) I felt suspicious for the actual repair cost and took my bike back home.

What and all are they changing ? Usually, its around 100% for metal depending upon how old your bike is. Change the service centre . Ask them the reason why they are giving just 60% for metal parts , also is your insurance full cover ?

They said the'll be changing the front master cylinder, tank, cover 8(Left side inner fairing,) headlight and headlight cowling. Headlight seems fine, But the headlight cowling just has a crack. I've already posted this here before, that the SVC mechanic is insisting to change the whole headlight assemble just for the sake of damaged headlight fairing. Guys here advised to change the headlight fairing myself and I've done it before without having to change the headlight along.

And what is a full cover insurance mean?

P.S: The bike is 2013 model and have never claimed any insurance before.

Anyone tried using automatic motorcycle chain tensioner?. It seems like chain is getting loose within 500km of usage.

^^ chain slacking every 500 kms or so is normal as the chain gets old (older than 5000-6000 kms or so i think)

i just happened to change my bike's chain and sprocket set today (bike at 15400 kms) and i observed that for the last 3000 kms or so that old chain seemed to get pretty loose every 300-400 kms, and very loose by 500-600 kms...the sprockets turned out to be fine even after 15k, but still had to change them.

            ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

someone asked about R15 stock tyres and ladakh trip - tons of people have ridden R15 on ladakh and almost every one else on other bad roads of various types on a regular basis and it's worked fine for everyone, so don't worry..of course you won't get any proper "grip" in slippery or broken or whatever else kind of bad roads, it's really just up to the rider to gauge how carefully to ride in a given set of bad road conditions (with special care towards braking sensibility)...no road bike can find paved-road-like stability and grip in slippery or broken roads..R15 and its tyres fair surprisingly well in such conditions (apparently better than most bikes), assuming sensible rider :-)

No surprises, to keep the lineup fresh, Yamaha has introduced 3 new colors and sticker set for R15 v2. Blue looks good, other 2 are special editions() but I guess even Yamaha is clueless on how many special editions they have rolled out.

Soon they will run out of sticker options :/
But what can they do, R15 is still a hot seller amoung youngsters.

                Ride safe and have fun.

I think the Blue one is already available as GP Blue color edition.
But the other two look lame IMO
The current Blue black version looks nice.
I would have liked if they gave the rims a color. But I guess that would not be cost effective for the company.

I think the blue color is different from the current GP blue. In fact the entire livery looks like that of r3. And the wheels are blue-colored as well.

GP blue has the same colors, but different stickers compared to this one. This will be called the revving blue

Its just the rim stripes. The wheels are still black. It would have looked very good in blue though.

                          Hi Guys,

My bike's 9th service is coming up next week. the bike has done 16500Kms. I have a query. when the bike was at 9500kms took it for servicing, the service center guys told me that the rear brake pad was worn out and needs replacement. Since I never had the pads replaced, I agreed. Then I enquired about the front one, and they said that it will still do 5k more kms before they need replacement. Now I use 70% front and 30% rear, then how come the front ones still had life and the rear ones were worn out. I was very busy those days and just agreed and paid. Didn't even bother to check if they were indeed replaced.

Now next week, at service, I want to get both of them checked and if needed replaced, and I don't trust the service center guys. So...

Is there any way to make sure that the pads are indeed replaced?
Is it easy to do at home, can I do it myself?

If there is any DIY thread regarding this (with lots of pics for clarification), please point me to the right direction.

                          Thanks in advance.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

https://youtu.be/iWB6Dh24vhk OK I came across this person on YouTube who claims the r15 can do 183... When I told him its a speedo error he immediately shoots it down saying I'm just jealous of his top speed lol.. Honestly wonder what people like this trip on.

Haha, little advice never comment on videos like this. Everyone will turn against you. Once a guy claimed that he had reached a top speed of 200 + in his Apache. I told him that it's impossible. Everyone in that group hurled abuses at me and banned me from the group

Please post some pics of the caliper area in different angles and one can figure out if its worn out or not. A high chance is that if you always keep your feet touching the brake lever, then it can get worn out pretty fastly.
Its not recommended to replace the rear brake pads of R15 yourself because if could get very difficult putting things back on, having said that , front brake pads are very easy to replace. Please use google or youtube for more information.
