This is costing me 80k . Few things I noticed was rust in chain ..

rust in chain .. Little rust in front disc rotor where the bolts are jointed near that area .. And little rust on the joint on chasis where new bikes has white sticker about chasis no.
Ans: the rust in chain is because the user rode the bike in rains and did not clean and lube the chain every 700kms. It is no big deal get a chain cleaner and lube combo for 500Rs (Motul is good), clean the chain properly and lube it and problem solved. keep it clean and lubed especially in rains to prevent rusting again. As for the rust on the disc rotors, normal when riding in rain - spray some chain clean on it wait for a few mins and wipe it off with cloth. Now rust in chasis - never had that in my bike, so cannot comment. If there is very little rust, it should not be a problem, spray with chain clean wipe off and paint a layer of black paint on it to prevent further rusting.

    1. Engine was smooth .. No vibes.
Ans: That is great. Check the service book and find out if all the services has been done on time. This will help you find out if the bike is in good health and you can make a more informed decision.

    2. Tyres were holding very well and brakes doing there job perfectly ( rear brake making squeaking sound when applied)
Ans: Stock tyres last for more than 30 thousand Kms. As you said that the bike has done 15 thousand Kms, the tires still have more than half the life left in them. Ask the owner if he had replaced Brake pads - if not, you will need to replace them. 15000 kms is a lot to go on a single set of brake pads.

    3. There is a small scratch on the left side headlight . it was bend internally, asked mechanic he told that the stem and the headlight need to be replaced , he only saw pic of that though and said stem can also be straighten up by hammer action
Ans: This can only be confirmed after opening the headlight assembly. There is a fair chance that is will get repaired. Still get confirmation before buying becaue the headlight assembly will cost money.
    .
    4. The black plastic cap on the handle bar on the nut of front shocker was cracked .. Asked in service centre they said this doesnot comes as a part ..
Ans: that is normal for all the R15 bikes. mine got cracked in the first month due to summer sun. @ years down the line and it is still cracked. No problem. even if you replace it, it will agin crack within a month. it is just the way it is. Plus it does not serve any purpose. So relax.

One more thing I noticed was the Bike was starting in gear ,in side stand while clutch pressed .. - I am thinking while on side stand it only starts in neutral .
Ans: Nope, the stand has nothing to do with starting of the bike. KTMs do not start when on stand. R15 will start anywhere on any gear if the CLUTCH IS PRESSES. If the bike is in gear and the clutch is not pressed then it wont start.

Hey guys I've been thinking about the hole under the exhaust pipe. The thing is I want to improve the exhaust note a bit and I don't want a new exhaust or a k&n airfilter as they are just too much. So if I increase the size of the hole by a little do you think that it's gonna sound different.?

Nopes! The hole under the exhaust is to let go off the water accumulation when washing the bike or any water ingress, so they help prevent formation of rust inside the muffler. Making that hole bigger won't make the bike sound any better. If you're planning on making the exhaust note better, get a FF exhaust, Leo Vince does have one, that should make the bike loud.

        Cheers!

Thanks Ankey , That was really informative and helpful

However, Just to update the bike is only 1500 KMS not 15,000 KMS . Now will this make any difference

My point for saying that user has switched to FS oil is because the bike is still in RUN-IN conditions. Should I change it to Mineral now with 10w40 ???

BTW I bought the beast .. it is very eye -catchy and I am kinda liking my purchase . Will update Photos soon .

About the Headlight Bent problem I have asked this in person today with Yamaha ASC mechanic and he said the stem needs replacement which is Rs300 and he straighten the Headlight assembly manually . Will get it done day after tomorrow . This bike has never seen any RPM movement on upwards of 4K and Today I ripped it to 122KMPH.

Can we put on a 100/80-17 at the front and 140/60-17 at the rear without much difference in acceleration and fuel economy? My friend uses mostly for highway rides and city, he doesn't do corner carvings.

I am glad that I could help out, brother.

Ans: Wow, you got a practically brand new bike for 80,000. that is the best deal bro. You are very lucky to have got such a new bike. Enjoy.

My point for saying that user has switched to FS oil is because the bike is still in RUN-IN conditions. Should I change it to Mineral now with 10w40 ???
Ans: R15 does not use mineral oil, the recommended oil is semisynthetic (Yamalube or motul, both are good). If you want, you can go back to Semisynthetic, but never ever go close to mineral. The standard is, to ride around 5 to 7 thousand kms on Semisynthetic oil(as recommended by Yamaha), then when the engine run in is over change to Fully synthetic.

BTW I bought the beast .. it is very eye -catchy and I am kinda liking my purchase . Will update Photos soon .
Ans: Sure, would love to see the pics.

Ans: good new. This saved you around 5000rs.

This bike has never seen any RPM movement on upwards of 4K and Today I ripped it to 122KMPH.
Ans: That is good, but remember the engine run in does not finish at 1000kms, the engine keeps polishing and refining itself till 5- 7thousand kms. So gradually increase the RPM, take it slow, so that the engine gives you the best mileage possible. It not a problem if you give it bursts of speeds for short interval of time like you did, but not all the time, as the bike has never gone upwards of 4k RPM. Take it up gradually and allow the engine to set in. A proper engine run in will give you no vibration even at triple digit speeds and will give you mileage of commuter bikes. My bike is 17000 kms old and proper run in, it gives me mileage of 50+ and everyone I tell, think I am trolling them because it is more than their commuter bikes and activas. you can have the same, power of a sports bike with mileage of a commuter bike by proper run in.

Ride safe brother. In case of any more questions, feel free to ask. I'll be happy to help.

                    Hi

I have a R15 S. The manual recommends Yamalube 20W40 which is a mineral and is perfectly fine. ASC give you an option between the mineral or the synthetic which is 10W 50 IIRC.

I personally am sticking to mineral until the 3rd service atleast (just completed 2nd - odo at 3.5k) will probably switch to synthetic at the 4th interval.

Is your bike 2014 or upward model, because bikes older than that doesn't come with O2 sensor..

Thanks for detailed run-in procedure Ankey ..
I am currently running her on 4-5.5k RPM not revving hard .. But my daily ride is approx 80km which include 70% highway so some time triple digit..
My query is that the 1st owner had put in synthetic oil in it at 1400kms so should I move back to mineral or semisynthetic? Motul 5100 ?
And guys please suggest a good headlight bulb for my stead?
Heard Osram Night racer is good ? Plz comment

I dont think that can cause any harm to your bike . After-all, Yamaha now uses Yamalube Fully synthetic oil for R15 and R3.
Osram night racer 35w could give you a little more illumination than stock.
