  • r15 knocking sound

    Hi,
I have a R15 v2 50th anniversary special edition made 2012, recently i gave my bike for service to a local guy and got both the brakes changed and coolant renewed with veedol coolant. After the service initially some knocking type of sound used to come but the sound was very less but now it is quite loud and coming out when ever i ride.
But there is no problem if my bike is in neutral. the sound comes at around 3-6k rpm and after that it is not audible maybe because of engine sound, but in neutral there is no abnormal sound.
Also my engine check light (red light) is not working. And the yellow light shows no problem.
The bike is not yet insured in my name so i will have to pay for the repairs and being a college student it is quite difficult for me. It will help if i can have your views.
i have checked the coolant level and engine oil level.

How much kms has the bike done till date? Knocking like sound was a concern for me earlier during my initial 2k kms. But then its the way that engine sounds. Hasnt given me any problems after 5 years. (Touchwood).

Knocking can happen in a bike if the bike isnt kept in perfect rpm band in a given gear.

My R15 V2 is having some major issues. My bike is just one and a half month old and after 100km of run the bike started showing some trouble. It started with an engine noise like tappet (loose tappet) kind of sound.and the gear shifting was very hard.specially down shifting.when my ODO become 350Km I did my first service and the service engineers checked my vehicle and they found that there is tolerance problem in the clutch bell(primary gear comp). So,they replaced it.

I took my bike for a long run from Cochin to Bangalore(580km).In this ride I never crossed 5000rpm as my bike was in brake in period. But after the ride the bike engine noise again started, gearshift become very tight.specially downshifting. and engine brake become almost nil.pickup becomes very less.with a pillion bikes straggle to move.Once the engine is heated up the sound of the engine changes like some metal parts are hitting in the engine wall.and squeaking noise from both the disk brake .So,I took the bike to PACER Yamaha Bangalore raised a complaint to Yamaha customer care and they also followed up to resolve the issue. SVC people again found play in the clutch bell and they reconditioned it.and the stupid operators in SVC applied some oil kind of solution in my disk brakes ,and there is no bite on brakes now but still squeaking sound is there.
After the repair the condition become much worse.Pickup reduced drastically, it feels like a 100cc bike with a big fairing. My bike is just1300Km in Odo. Last Monday I got a call from Yamaha Engineers and they agreed to check my bike. And as per there instruction, I left my bike at Pacer Yamaha Bangalore.Hoping to get it repaired.

Here comes the question, what will be the actual problem? Is it relly the problem of clutch bell? if so why it is not getting OK even after one replacement and reconditioning?
Will it be any engine trouble(I am getting avg mileage of 50-55km/l ) even the mileage seems so strange for me..what will be the possible cause of engine noise, pickup drop, gear tight, and brakes?
I am very much worried about by bike...guyz please help.

Did you visited the pacer yamaha today? 18.3.2016? I saw someone getting suggestion to not go for long distance as some engine work was done.. just asking. BTW pacer yamaha, hebbal guys are far experienced and better than other service station in Bangalore.

                Somewhere around 15k-17k.
There was absolutely no sound 6-7 months ago. I went on a trip from mumbai to karnataka, i had no problems.

No ,I didn't go to PACER on 18th .and today I got a call from Pacer that the senior service engineer from Yamaha has checked my bike ,and it seems like the whole clutch assembly replacement is required. (But still they dont know the exact root cause, and that makes me worry )They ordered the parts,It may take some time to arrive the parts. So they instructed me that meanwhile I can take the vehicle, once the part is arrived they will inform. So I am waiting for the parts to arrive.

I wont jump into a conclusion. But a tappet adjustment might just solve the issue (if its an issue really )

To be really honest, I wont suggest you to install an aftermarket exhaust. The stock exhaust sounds really bassy when the bike is ridden at higher revs. Aftermarket exhausts are really loud. I know we get db killers, but still who is going to do the hassle of fitting it in and out.

Installing an aftermarket exhaust with aftermarket filter will give a feel that the performance has increased, but infact it will just be marginal. If you own a r15 with o2 sensor, then you might get slight improvement in initial pickup.

No bro I have checked it it will fit but has many problems
                        Main problem is ground clearance
It will not be a proper set up for the bike and will ruin the handling
                        Cheers mate

Just came back from 1600 km+ tour. Bike's rear seat lock won't open. There is no movement when I try turning the key.
                            Any suggestions?

The key turns? or is it hard to turn? Push the seat down hold it down n try turning the key. Maybe it is being pushed up against the lock by something under the seat?

Try some WD40 or chain cleaner to open the lock.
