Hello folks, is anyone carrying out the valve clearance check regularly as specified in the owners manual?

Of course nobody does that. Check sound change, or around 10-15k kms is a good time for adjusting, though I do at 20k intervals.
Ride, ride and ride.. But always do it responsibly..

IMO, the fault is with the employee and not Yamaha. The person who did this didn't care about the reputation of company he works for. I suggest that, shoot a mail to Yamaha and let them know about such a thing happening.

        Cheerz!!
The bike is in a very bad condition, and no warranty also. Its just scrap now.

sorry if my post offends you but this needed to be said although being a grown up adult yourself you should already know the difference between sensible and insensible things to say/do no matter you emotionally attached you might be to something that was stolen :-)
You have given an idiotic example, and speak about being a grown up. Let me correct it for you. What if the house robbery was done by the employee of the person, who built your home? during construction itself, they have taken the impression of all the keys. Won't you blame the builder for employing such employees?

I will give you two examples for you, then you decide

          1. You order a iPhone online. The delivery person, after getting signature from you, snatches the mobile and runs away. Whom will you ask? won't you call the online company and ask for refund?

          2. You go to a bank to withdraw 2 lakhs. After you cross the bank entrance, the same clerk who gave you the money, snatches your bag and run away. What will you do? won't you go back inside and ask the manager? won't you become angry with them for employing such thieves?

            Sorry for your loss brother
Do you have any intentions of using it again? If yes, I think you should give it a try before blaming Yamaha. Mail Yamaha stating what happened with any valid proof (if you have).
Take your bike to the dealer from you bought it and explain him the situation. If none of them happen to help you, you can take a step back from Yamaha products.

The thing is, I don't think the SVCs here are competent enough to carry out this job. Is it okay if I don't carry out it at all? My bike is ~23,000 km old and she's running better than new.

If you hear too much of noise from engine, then only get it done. If the SVC doesn't do a good job, the hassles later will trouble you more.

Yes, you can easily identify that sound.

Does any one else experience this? Many a times when I shift into the 2nd gear it falls into neutral and unknowingly the rev meter goes vroom!! Is this normal for a sub 1000 kms bike?

Perfectly normal dude. You'll get a hang of the shifts. After some practice this won't happen.

Haha, no, its the oil leakage from the fork and the crankcase.
