  • Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0

Guys, had a query regarding brake pads.

For how much distance can a set of brake pads last?

My braking technique is one that I learned here, front brake only at high speeds to avoid fishtailing.
Also, my front brake would get used up more than the rear, as I use it 90% of the time.

Is it mandatory to change both brake pads together?

I've done 5600 km only on the odo.
(Thus stating that I'm a noob)

No fixed answer for that mate, my friend brakes quite hard at times ,his lasted barely 12k. Some other guy had done 20k on same pads, used them less (coasting stuff). I guess mine won't even last full 10k, yes I slam them hard.

No its not. I changed my front pads now, though my rear ones are almost worn out. (Front ones were cheaper, rear ones were costly so will change them next)

Depending on how you use your brakes they can last anywhere between 5k to 25k
Its not an effective way to use front brakes alone, its best use 70% front and 30% back. Its different for different bikes. You will get hold of the fishtails with practice..
It is not necessary to change both brake pads at once.

The front brake is the cake and the rear brake is the icing on the cake. Because of the way a Sportbike like the R15 is built (geometry of the bike), when u brake hard, most the weight get transferred on to the front of the bike. The harder you brake the less useful the rear brake becomes. (Only when u are riding at slow speeds or under certain road surface/traction conditions like when the roads are wet, u might want to use the rear more. )

Sooner or later u will read/hear advice like use 70% front and 30% rear or some such combination. IMO, that's complete bollocks! The problem with that advice is that it's targeted towards newbies but to know what 70% is requires advanced skills in the first place. And, of course anybody with advanced skills will likely not be using 70/30 and certainly not under all conditions all the time.

My advice: learn to use the front...practice, practice, practice. The braking power and control over speed u get from mastering the front brake will greatly increase you confidence and safety on the road. Use the rear judiciously (if at all).

Hi guys, I've done 500+kms so far. Changed oil at 500kms.
I got one doubt, when I hug the tank with my legs, the left leg touches on the carbon fibre looking piece but right doesn't.
I tried changing position but no matter what right leg doesn't touch anywhere, my question is if the left touches right one should too right? I mean both sides should be same ?

I also thinks the frame on which the seats are fixed etc.. Isn't aligned with the bike, because the tail piece (no.plate holder) isn't aligned with the rear tyre. Many 2014 R15s are like this I guess. Any 2014 owners got their bike like this ?

Best would be to check the riding position on another R15. Only then you can know if its with all or only your bike.

                  Ride safe and have fun.

Brother, I have heard many people complain about the misaligned rear in the 2014 model, you are 3rd or 4th guy complaining about same problem, so maybe it is a factory misfit affecting many bikes.
When you go for servicing this time, ask the mech to open it up and align it properly. I advised same thing to a member a few weeks ago and his problem was rectified.

As for the leg touching the fibre plastic piece, try it on any other R15 that comes to the service center, talk to the owners, sit on their bikes, ask them to try out yours.
If there really is any problem, the mech will sort it out for sure. All the best
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Thanks a lot mate. I might also be doing the same, although they have some meat left in them.

Will keep practicing. I did fishtail twice only to realize that rear brake at high speeds can put me in trouble.
                        Thanks a lot.

This is the third time my mirror has been broken, people walking around sometimes hit the side of bike cover where mirror is ,taking it out from the ball joint.

R15 mirror are for 250, I heard some saying Fazer mirrors are direct fit and cheaper moreover they also look good.

                          Are they direct fit?
                          What is the price?

So far have got positive response that it can be a nice replacement.
Inputs needed ASAP so that I can get it from godown by tommorow .

The same problem happened to me today. This will be the fourth time I would be changing the mirrors.

AFAIK fazer mirrors aren't direct fit and if it does, it would project out much. I've already tried them on my bike.

I don't think they're a direct fit. They weigh more than the stock ones and no, they're not cheaper than stock, I think its 300+ for the fazer rvm(one side).

So that pretty much means that I am going to be stuck with spending 250 on mirror which is going to be possibly broken again.

Sounds like I need to find some fix for this ASAP.
Sure there is not way to remount it?

will contact them and ask about the price tommorow, may be even have a good look at the fazer's and tell if can be fitted or not.
