Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
An advice to all, do flip some pages back, the hot topic of Oil was discussed covering all aspects of SS, FS and even mineral oils along with particular brand and performances.
Regarding the engine oil, it is no where advised(official recommendation) to use mineral oil. Can you please quote it from where did you got this news that mineral oil should be used.Yamaha uses Yamalube which is again an upgraded version of motul 15w50(for R15). So dont be worried about it and yes it is highly recommended to use Motul 15w50 grade oil or the Yamalube 15w50 grade oil which in turn is the SS oil.R15 neds SS and even all the high end performance bikes use this oil. Moreover after covering considerable amount of distance(>12000kms) you can switch to FS oils which are again provided by Motul and Shell.Would recommend you to use 15w50 oil only and avoid using mineral oil.Originally posted by myg124 View PostGot my first service done today at just 250 odd kms. The guys put the 15w50 oil and changed the oil filter as well. Cost 550 for the oil and 167 for the filter. Now once this was done I opened the manual to find that 15w50 grade of oil isn't mentioned. Instead it clearly says 20w40/50. I asked the in charge and he said we put 20w40 only for the FZ! He said this is the best oil for the 15.
Very surprising. What experiences you've had and which grade of oils to stick to? Or is this a ploy to sell expensive oil? Inputs will be highly appreciated.
Cheers!

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Thank you Saquib. It is clearly printed in the manual that 20w40 and 20w50 are the recommended grades. Not mentioned a thing about mineral or synthetic though. Hence the confusion. Isnt it a lapse on Yamaha's end and they should be printing the 15w50 instead.Originally posted by saquib3005 View PostAn advice to all, do flip some pages back, the hot topic of Oil was discussed covering all aspects of SS, FS and even mineral oils along with particular brand and performances.

Manuals are generic, they usually never update it. Best is consult with good svc and guys who have been using R15/on any bike from long time.
Yamaha has recommended 15w50 for R15 from long time. Actually it is SS oil and it all depends on viscosity of oil needed by engine. Yamaha have recommended SS oil for both common sports bike and for high performance Super sports bike also.
Mineral should be avoided. Minerals are nothing but just an additive.
In order to keep longevity of engine smoothness its advisable not to use mineral. Even Honda CBR guys strictly avoid minerals(as many of my friends have shared with their experience).
it is all about performance.
Best is use SS oil for first 12000 kms and after that if you are using your bike for insane riding conditions and also high performance riding then go for FS.
Do look some pages back, I, Arnabc and Ivin have also shared info regarding this. And even go through Abhimayu's post it will help you a lot.

Also what is price of front and rear sprocket?
Is it 100rs and 505rs respectively?
It will help if you can post the pics of the price and part no. itself.
Thanks in advance.

Some guys here use 300v motul FS too. So far people are saying is the best oil, bike loves it. I was a bit short on money so I got 7100.
AFAIK 300v is 15W50.
so don't worry 20W40, 20W50, 15W50 all will be fine. Just don't run FS before 8-10k.
You will be good to go.Last edited by Tanmay26; 08-22-2014, 11:42 AM.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Did first service today from PSN Yamaha kochi. Pathetic service, they did not change oil filter, reason they said its not in stock. Raised voice a bit and they went out and bought a filter and replaced it in front of me. Will never go there again :banghead:
Btw mech fixed the tail piece alignment problem. The bike was already smooth but now its even smoother

.
Also check out the mileage, it will also increase slightly after the service.
And find a good service center as soon as possible. Someone from your home town might be a member here, maybe you can get some help to shortlist a good service center.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
So today I checked the fuel gauge, the top bar is not there now and the distance covered so far is 200 odd kms from the last tankful. Can't believe but did not expect the 15 to be fuel efficient as well.

Open the fuel cap and take a look inside. I think you will be disappointed ;-)Originally posted by myg124 View PostSo today I checked the fuel gauge, the top bar is not there now and the distance covered so far is 200 odd kms from the last tankful.
