Bend links on o-ring chains cannot be rectified . It shall cause quick sprocket wear and irritating noise . Danger of chain break at speed . Replace the chain asap . Periodically brush off dirt gently with soft brush . Lubricate with clean engine oil , sit for few hours and wipe off all excess oil . Do not let them wash chain with high-pressure washers .
Replace the switch , it's relatively inexpensive . Functional brake-light switch is essential signal for other riders on the road .
Get the brake pads and disc cleaned with sandpaper . It should improve . Front brake is for stop , rear brake for slowing down . Use together for immediate stop .

Any pointers as to what is wrong? May be all this also explains the low 32-35kmpl average I am getting.
Too much braking would also affect the mileage pal.
You accelerate to 100kph, then slow down to 20kph then again accelerate back up to speed 120, that burns fuel mate. Try reducing your use of brakes by letting off the throttle way before you want to stop, might as well pull clutch in if you are sure going to stop(I personally rev-match).

And second part, let me give you some test.
When you ride on highway, don't brake at all for few kilometers of open stretch. Now check if the disc is heated up, if it is even slightly hot, your pads are dragging against disc.
Or you can also try putting it up on a center stand if you have, try spinning front wheel by hand. Using enough force, it should spin freely for at least 1-1.5 revolution.

Nd by the way, mine didn't even last 5k kms, yes I brake hard. I usually ride on sunday early mornings before 7am. That's a lot of high revs and hard braking and knee down stuffs. Mine too make a bit of noise as pads are just a fraction away from disc. I cleaned callipers ,thinking they might be dragging but frankly they made very little difference.

I have replaced the front brake light switch once before. I don't remember the exact amount, but I'm definitely sure it wasn't cheap. Cost around Rs.800 or something.

5k kms? What's the average life of the front brake pads? I've been using stock for almost 14k kms now, and they are still quite good.

Brake light switch for ₹ 800?? Holy crap!! It would never cost that much brother. I guess you have been charged wrongly for something else.

          Cheerz!!

Yeah, that's pretty much average there .
Like I said, I only ride on sunday early mornings and that would be pretty hard braking almost everytime I go out.
A typical commuter, tourer would definately have range of 10-15k even if they brake bit harder.
Mine is 20P1, when I asked godown for price, they quote me around 400 for front pads and for 1CK2 of my friend's it was around 600 so quality might differ for mine, will check and update next time I change.

But I would say there is no 'fixed' km your pads would run. It depends a lot of riding.

Got my first service done today at just 250 odd kms. The guys put the 15w50 oil and changed the oil filter as well. Cost 550 for the oil and 167 for the filter. Now once this was done I opened the manual to find that 15w50 grade of oil isn't mentioned. Instead it clearly says 20w40/50. I asked the in charge and he said we put 20w40 only for the FZ! He said this is the best oil for the 15.

Very surprising. What experiences you've had and which grade of oils to stick to? Or is this a ploy to sell expensive oil? Inputs will be highly appreciated.

              Cheers!

Got my set of original Yamaha LED position bulbs. Imported, 500 a piece. Had to pre-order them from the outlet. Look smashing, worth the purchase if you thinking of fitting one. I know after markets are cheaper, but anything for Japanese!

One more query on the fuel bars. I have clocked 150 odd kays with a full tank, and still all the bars are present. Whats the math here and how does the bike deduct it from the gauge? It definitely is not 2L per bar.

                Cheers!
Can you post a few pics of your purchase? And regarding your fuel bars.... The top most fuel bar disappears anywhere between 70-90kms for me. I also noticed that it the 1st and 6th fuel bars disappear quickly Get a full tank, Take your bike for a spin, The 6th Bar disappears and then it takes a while for the other 4 bars to decrease and when you are at the final bar and drive for a while.. BAM... The F-0.0kms appears! That's how it is going with my bike, With a range of 450-470kms in a full tank. I seriously haven't understood the math behind the bike's fuel gauge and i don't want to know it either!

                      I am confused.
The tappet settings is intake 0.1-0.14mm and exhaust 0.2-0.24mm

You said minimum of 0.2mm, and it went below 0.15mm, that has to be exhaust tappet.
                      anyways, what were the symptoms?
                      how were your cold starts?
Any unusual noise, spark plug colour?
Was there a loss of compression?
anymore detail you give, will help me much more than you think
I am running 0.1mm intake and 0.17mm exhaust, its running fine. Just cold starts, required 3-4 cranks for 2-3 seconds each before it finally fires. After first start, it pretty much runs fine throughout the day like its brand new.
                      Mine is 2008 model
sustains idle revs well, at 1500, both hot and cold.
No loss of performance felt, maybe mileage but haven't checked it lately.

Is it wise to put in the Yamalube 15w50 semi synthetic oil in the first service? This is what the service centre people recommended me over the 20w40 and 50 as stated in the manual. Or is this the norm?

Guys my 700kms run R15 has a dancing tachometer it jumps up and down about 100rpm even the engine is properly warmed up or ran 40kms.
What could be the reason ? Is it normal ?

                                Hello guys!
Having a problem with my front brake.
Had been for monsoon rides back to back.
First ride was of 800 kms and second one was 650 kms.
I clearly observed that my front brake is acting wierd. It is getting applied stage by stage. I.e. if I apply front brake,
Stage 1 - no action taken place.
Stage 2 - Little stoppage is shown.
Stage 3 - BAM! The bike is almost at halt!
                                It's not like before.
I feel scared to use my front brakes now.
Someone here discussed about bleeding the brakes.
Could anybody enlighten me about 'brake bleeding'?
Current ODO reading - 41k kms.
                                Thanks in advance
