It will be fine if you put it.
15w would be less viscous when you start the bike first thing in the morning. Ofcourse that is good.
I have been running 10w40 motul 7100, it is running smooth and fast no problems at all.

google multi grade oil viscousity ranges, you will find a good explaination.

Jumping at idling or when you rev it in neutral?
A bit of jumping when revved in neutral is normal I say. Mine does jump around 50 rpm or so when I hold gas in neutral to say above 2k rpm, idling is smooth though.
point at 1500rpm, no movement at all.

If it is jumping at idling...
have you got your tappet adjusted or what? How are cold starts?
        Any recent changes done?
        Any further details would help.

Thank you Tanmay! Much appreciated. Well I know about oils, its just that since a different grade is mentioned in the manual, it misleads us customers. They should mention 15w50 as well since it is an oil sold by them.

Apart from this, isn't the general notion that for the first 10000 kms, one should stick to mineral and then switch to synthetics?

Yeah I was going to say the same thing in my post.
But I got my 15 second hand,so I have no idea what did they put at time of purchase but I have heard a lot about this.
There are people who say you put mineral up to 5000km stating that mineral oil is what yamaha r15 'comes in' from the company.
Some other guy says it comes with yamalube semi synthetic from company. So I can't say definately what they put into and what not.

Personally, I would say run mineral or 'stock oil' up to 1500-2000km just to be sure, then 8-10000 with semi and then you can switch to fully synthetics, there by changing engine oil filter every time you change the engine oil type. If stock oil comes as semi, why not run it for 6-8000km and then switch. But again, just a personal preference.

R15 uses semi-synthetic oil from the company and this is what should be used. Downgrading of oil from the company recommended type is not a good idea.
Just changed the oil at recommended intervals (or earlier) along with oil-filter. Everything will be fine.

Yes its only happening while idling. Its a new bike, done 700kms, did not fiddle with anything. Cold starts are fine, starts at first crank.

                    Sounds normal to me then.
If it were old bike, I would say check throttle body or tappets, but its damn new.
You know what, don't stress it. About 2 years back, I had this 'keeda'. I used to over think about small things and fix things which weren't needed to be fixed in first place.I wanted everything to be 'perfect'.

I would say, if it runs fine just ride it and enjoy. Fine means no loss of acceleration, top speed and mileage.
Post it later at 1000km or so if it still persists.

Nope, you will have a bit loss of acceleration and gain on top speed(IF the bike pulls).

My v1 2008 came with 120/80 section rear tyre, it attained top speed of around 123-124 in 5th gear, as soon as I shift to 6th it decreases back to 120 as it was stock gearing and over sized tyre.
Trust me that would be the worst feeling ever.

I have used v2's front rear sprocket combinations to mitigate the tyre increment. Now I am stuck with 132 in 6th, hearing stories of people crossing 140 on speedo with ease.

You can use the website to see what you bike speeds will be, its up to you.

Punch in the data, r15 v1 and v2 both are preloaded.

                    good luck

Thanks Nadeem. You sure the stock oil IS the 15w50 SS? Why do they mention otherwise in the manual then?(20w40 and 20w50 mentioned).

I don't know about the factory oil, but it should be 15w50. Else Yamaha wouldn't recommend Yamalube 15w50. Like for FZ, they have mineral of 20w40 grade in Yamalube and its the factory oil in it.

Use the Yamalube oil till you are under warranty, its quite good.

You did not get me. What I meant was when you get the new bike, which oil does it carry? Is it the mineral 20w40 or the 15w50? Also for engines doing <10000 kms, is it advisable to use mineral and change to synthetics post 10000 OR use the semi synthetic 15w50 even if the bike is just 300 kms old?

I got your point earlier also, maybe my words weren't clear. That oil is synthetic.
